so you kept the game you don't want? if its ftp why keep it? how'd he even get a key for that to send you? doesn't it just download as soon as you click to get it(thats how teamfortress2 works for example)? And even if it can be a key how does using that key prevent him from getting another if it were truly free to play?
Just seems like it hurts your case with galagivaways support. From the gifter's and apparently support's point of view you got something which was marked as not received. It'd be easier to win that argument if you don't register it.

Regardless of whether or not OP wants the other user to continue on (which may have been a mistake anyway), they would have been better off filing a support ticket to GG themselves along with returning the title to sender. Keeping the wrong title is at base acceptance of what has been given, so even though I don't agree with what goes on over there the reasoning seems solid enough. Don't keep anything except what is explicitly being offered. It shouldn't get the sender off the hook either but it could have been handled better.

Please tell me what GG Support would have done? Pretty sure their e-mails prove they're rather incompetent and the replies from the user indicates he had no remorse for sending the incorrect gift as he tried to offer a completely different game.
As you can't seem to grasp the concept either, it's a FREE TO PLAY game meaning the gift is completely useless. You can not add it to your library as everyone already owns the game.

They do what they do and they earn the reputation they have for it, it doesn't change the fact that it could have been handled differently. You say specifically that you would give back the item if it were not for the fact you think they would scam someone else with it. This implies that it is an inventory item and not a key, which would be something you could send right back if you wanted. I'm just going off what you've provided, and from what is written you should have been able to return it and wash your hands of the matter. Grats on getting it resolved anyway.

they gave away beta key gifts on steam. i have one in my inv. http://steamcommunity.com/id/CORGISRDABEST/inventory/#753
Comment has been collapsed.
with that I can give away "Monday Night Combat" as often as I want ;D
Comment has been collapsed.
In case you missed where I repeated multiple times it's FREE TO PLAY.
Go to the page for Super Monday Night Combat and it will tell you that every friend on your list already owns it. If I sent you the gift, you cannot redeem it and only add it to your inventory.
They're absolutely useless for anything other than trying to trick people. (or "collectors")
Comment has been collapsed.
When the game was beta, you could get a few copies from it's devs for promotion. Those copies didn't disappear when the game went public f2p
Comment has been collapsed.
I had like 3 or 4, they were useless, couldn't even activate them as they would just say "you already own this game".
Comment has been collapsed.
You probably got them too late, then. During beta time you could only play that game when you had one of those copies
Comment has been collapsed.
You are right but you should give him the gift back... I know it sounds stupid but at least then he wouldn't have anything to point at you. Also, did you expose this to Gala Giveaways? I'm sure yours is not the only case and from the report he sent they clearly don't know what game this is about...
Comment has been collapsed.
this.
yeah, it can only go better if you give the game back.
it'd go from looking like "won but took advantage of the gifter using the wrong title to keep and claim you didn't win anything"
to looking like "gifter sent the wrong game, this turns out to not even be something that can be given away, you sent it back and pointed it out"
one is far more sympathetic to support, it also happens to be the one with a clearer answer. If you keep it it makes the gifter's side more credible than it actually is.
and the insult they are talking about is probably that he took that whole 'you sent me the wrong thing which is crap and worthless but I'm keeping it anyway so you don't try scamming anybody else with it' bit. thats easy to take out of context and claim insult. you called him a scammer when he can claim it was a mistake and he attempted to reimburse you.
support'll automatically be leaning twords the gifter's side to begin with, letting him report you before you reported him in addition to your keeping the game just makes it worse of a skew.
Comment has been collapsed.
If someone scams you on SteamTrades, do you give them back the items they used to scam you?
Why is this any different? The kid tried to pull a fast one, he was unsuccessful and I'm putting an end to it by keeping the gift. Which for the fourth or fifth time in this thread, is F2P game which everyone already owns and no one can activate the gift because of this reason, it's completely useless.
Comment has been collapsed.
if its free what stops him from just getting another? which was also my question of how he even got the first one. as far as I know you can't get keys for ftp on steam, they just download, was it originally not?
but since apparently you can it ends up meaning nothing that you even kept it, it doesn't stop him, so all it accomplishes is help keep support on his side instead of yours by making it look like you got something.
would have been better off reporting him at the start to cover your ass than keeping what he sent you and marking as not sent. He can twist that more easily.
Comment has been collapsed.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about so please just stop. You can't just create gifts for free to play games.
The fact that he did not send me the game that the giveaway was for, means that it should be marked as not received. It does not matter that he sent me a F2P game that everyone already owns.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't own it so clearly not everybody does(but obviously that isn't the point) maybe support doesn't either. even if its almost that popular you act like its obvious it was free to play and support would have known that. I'm just not sure why you made that assumption is all.
look it from thier point of view. or anybody else who never heard of monday night combat. It just makes it so much more clear cut for the support guys if you didn't keep it.
If the gifter sent them a record of him sending a game called super monday night combat and proof that you kept it for a givaeway of monday night combat is it really so surprising they'd think he was right?(especially if you're new to that site or had never given anything there not that (thats necessarily the case, just an example)) unless they know they probably think its like nightsky vs nightsky hd or at worst like gifting civ v goty isntead of civvgold) since you apparently never told them yourself all they have to go on right now are his side and what he says.
the support staff made a mistake, they did it based on what they could see and what he sent to them. Message back and tell them about the ftp version. explain the difference, forward the email conversation about how you told the guy it was the wrong thing. they'll switch sides.
just that for appearances and a faster resolve it would have helped to either not keep the game or to have messaged support first instead of 2nd. you'll still win eventually, that he says she says thing won't work any longer than it takes somebody to look it up so wouldn't be really surprised if a reply was already on the way. just that it'd also have been easy to skip alot of their confusion entirely.
.
although since it went this long what i meant is probably not coming across at all so I'll stop trying if you reply again rather than make undestanding gap worse. i'll have to try reading it later to figure out how i managed to make so little sense lol. probably shouldn't try to explain when I'm half asleep lol.
edit- ah, I missed all the updates. see, it worked out in the end edit-... except for that lol although not completely surprised after making that thread, its like how little amused bioware was after that "ea devil" guy, some of these sites are just really pretty touchy like that. hopefully its just a temporary ban, next time just stay calm and see what happens. you pretty much started off as confrontational and insulting with support from the start which is never helpful. seems unlikely its a permanent ban. support guy was probably new or just helping out temporarily, yes they should have gotten your side first and were wrong at first, but look how quickly and easily that was solved before you started heaping shit on it, being a dick to support doesn't exactly help get your way faster and threats are not the way to get unbanned you'll only make it worse. resorting to this forum stuff and posting emails so early when if you hadn't it'd have been resolved and you'd be happy right now(just be nicer to the guy who's job it is to decide you're right next time). hindsight. meh
__
well anyway theres steamgifts which is better anyway and galagiveaways needs a ton of polish and balancing ect before it is anywhere as good as steamgifts. so really being banned is good. gives more time to focus on steamgifts ;0P
hope it eventually gets unbanned and was temporary. at least they went after the other guy too and decided you were right on that part.
Comment has been collapsed.
You do "own" it. Just go to this page http://store.steampowered.com/app/104700/
It just says "Play game". You cannot activate a gift of this game because it already exists in your account, even though it doesn't show in your library. The gifts are leftover from before it was F2P (beta or something, I'm not sure).

Wow! So many replies! :o
Anyway, this is a bit of conflict management work... You are right but you need to make sure everyone understands it from your point of view. And that means you should take every possible step to clear this mess in the most peaceful way possible.
In this case (IMHO) this means actually returning the incorrect item (first take a couple of screenshots though), then explaining the guy more clearly that you are not interested in Muliwinia as you already own that title and that wasn't the gifted game. Since Gala giveaways has a different point system it is more then fair to request for the correct title there. Avoid calling him a scammer and whatnot as that will make you look hostile and him like a victim.
As for the game itself. If you look closely at my profile you will notice I have a canceled giveaway for 2 copies of MNC! Try to guess why! I actually made the same mistake only I was lucky enough to spot it before anyone entered it so no harm was done...
Actually the SMNC gifts are a bit silly because they're in fact gifts for a f2p game. If you're not very familiar with this game (like I wasn't) this will cause a bit of confusion.
So look at things from their perspective... Someone claims to have made a legit giveaway and some guy calls him a scammer, tries himself to scam the giver to give him to games instead (he proposed to give you a 2nd game after giving you the first) and then he -reped the poor victim.
Of course YOU are right but this would be all cleared much faster if you took some preventive steps in managing this conflict. It would make things easier for the admin/mod/employee to read the whole situation (you returned the game, refusing to keep a game that didn't correspond to the one that was advertised <- correct attitude like it or not) tried to show the giver he was making an honest mistake but in turn you were deprived from your galagiveaway points (that don't just refill themselves as they do here) and the giver refused to correctly make things up to you...
This would clearly mark you as the victim and not as some guy who's keeping a game he doesn't want while demanding for ANOTHER game all while insulting the poor guy who made a mistake.
I'm just trying to point out how the same situation might have multiple readings and you are free to express your indignation but you should understand that will not help you get everything fixed faster... In either case I think you'll win this one but it would spare you a lot of time/work if you just returned the gift and asked for the correct game clearly pointing out you spent X points to get MNC and not SMNC so that's what you expect to win.
As a footnote I'd like to add I wait till things get really sour before taking these issues to the public forum. I've had small problems like these in other sites and after explaining myself once or twice (it took some patience I admit) the mods/admins/employees where more then willing to help me. Some times these mails are skimmed through (probably due to overflow of work) and more then often it's just a matter of bad communication.
In any case I wish you good luck with this! =)

The person who created the giveaway just added me to apologize for everything that has happened as a result of the giveaway.
He informed me that he had actually won the game on another site as Monday Night Combat, but never activated it and just regifted it. If this is true, it makes me feel even better about my choice of keeping the gift and putting an end to it deception.
So look at things from their perspective... Someone claims to have made a legit giveaway and some guy calls him a scammer, tries himself to scam the giver to give him to games instead (he proposed to give you a 2nd game after giving you the first) and then he -reped the poor victim.
They could have easily asked for a screenshot proving he sent me the gift. Then they would have seen it was Super Monday Night Combat and it would have been done.
I'm really quite curious as to what you mean by tries himself to scam the giver to give him to games instead? Are you trying to accuse me of being a scammer? If so, perhaps you should take a bette look at what I've posted.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was afraid this would come off as me trying to accuse you.. If you read closely I'm just trying to state how your actions might be perceived and not what they actually were. So no, I'm not accusing you! English isn't my native language so let's just assume it was a problem with that! ^_^
As for them easily resolving this matter by requesting further proof.. Like I said I feel you ARE right and they probably just skimmed through the first emails without giving it the proper attention and request for your side of the story... I feel this boils down to poor communication probably due to excessive workload and some of the points I made earlier.
Still... The bottom line: I didn't accuse you, I think you are right, bad communication is bad, good conflict management is good (and would save your a lot of trouble). Wish you good luck! ^_^

Although I don't visit GG at all.. I recently bought cryostasis + D2S bundle on gala store (there was a sale no too long ago).. so anyway, they messed up and sent me 2 cryo keys.. contacted support about this.. they replied quite fast.. sending me the D2S key and allowing me to keep an additional cryo key which I wanted to give back.. so my experience with them is not really that bad.. :o

Well, their response is good for you but a fail for them >_>

Good business practices seem to be spreading around lately. Not to mention jerks jumping at a chance to abuse everything and anything. Somehow, after a full day of dealing with people with similar attitudes, I'm not surprised.
Comment has been collapsed.
Dem professionals. I only had 2 problems with them in the past, nothing too big, so I didn't push the issue 'cause of a lack of care.
First, the first and only time I ever bought a $1 bundle to "abuse" the system and get multiple BTA gift links later was with Gala 9, the last one where you could do that (it's the early buyer + happy hour combo). You should also note that while I mention it's abuse, and while it's probably not a nice thing to do, it was way not against their rules or anything. Still, after that bundle they kept referring to it as abuse, so whatever.
My problem was that, at first I didn't get Steam and Desura keys, only QR codes. Well that's pretty neat. I thought maybe it's just a temporary thing and I haven't checked back in the following days. When Happy Hour came on, I bought a 4-pack, and got no e-mails about it. I mailed them, mentioned the full bundles not appearing at all, and the first $1 bundle not appearing either. Apparently, the $1 didn't matter too much to them because to this day, it's not having anything besides a music album and the 2 QR codes. Not something I'm going to cry over, but that's kinda clumsy.
The funnier thing however happened with a trade. I traded for Gala 10 with someone, and he gave me a gift link. Secret game unlock time came, and I could've put those extra keys to some use, even though I had all 3 games, but once again they didn't unlock. I mailed them about it, they responded that my bundle link was a product of abuse that the trader shouldn't have traded to begin with. Contacted the trader, and he said that another support member from Gala told him that they'll fix the link. Bipolar much? Oh, they didn't fix it by the way, but I don't care any more about that.
I don't even want to get involved with their giveaways to be honest. I have a big backlog anyways.

I used to buy the early BTA + Happy Hour for a total of 20 bundles and only received random numbers from 16-20 the past two or three bundles. They tried to blame it on me stating it was due to the average price going up during my purchase. Even though I refresh multiple times and immediately before processing to ensure I have the most current price. They refused to even acknowledge that the error could have been on their end even after it happening multiple times in a row.
Comment has been collapsed.
Wait, so you bought 20 bundles and only got 4 of them, then they blamed it on you? I'm kinda confused here...
Comment has been collapsed.
I bought 20 bundles, received 15 to 19 and they said it was my fault for not paying enough, said I was .50 cents short or something. They gave me the bundles, but never accepted fault. Then it happened the next two times with the same response so I quit buying bundles.
It was when they were switching from the old Happy Hour criteria to the new one and I assume there were some bugs.
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha, wow. I mean, Indie Royale reportedly had a problem on their very first launch, so did Groupees on the first and second. But when you are on your 10th bundle and your site is still pretty much full of bugs like that, then you're definitely messing things up. And I thought my small problems were kind of unique or rare... Can't believe I'm saying that but I feel cheated >_<
Comment has been collapsed.
O'boi. @ EDIT2, did he really go down the War Z line? That is low. Super freaking low.
Is there even anything in their rules system that should grant you a ban for this?
Comment has been collapsed.
Rather comical; if they can't take criticism that is rightfully due, then don't get in the business where criticism is often given. Steamgifts is doing it the correct way, and even when GalaGiveaways tries to copy them, they manage to create a lackluster site system, and use support agents that seem to have no experience or common sense at all.
Comment has been collapsed.
So, they banned you because you made their mistakes public?
I don't think i want to buy from them again. Some bundles were pretty good, but i don't think i want to give them money any more

I won Monday Night Combat on GalaGiveaways and the user sent me Super Monday Night Combat which in case you don't know is free to play and a totally different game. I message them and informed them in case it was a mistake, they apologized and offered me a Multiwinia key to give him positive feedback. I declined as I already had the game and wouldn't want to break the rules anyway. Then I receive this e-mail from GalaGiveaways Support threatening to suspend me for apparently insulting the user and lying.
Here is the conversation between the user and myself where I was supposedly insulting him and lying about receiving the incorrect gift.
Here are the e-mails that I received from GalaGiveaway Support in which you can tell they truly are professionals! When I tried to go to GalaGiveaways I realized I was banned and when I inquired as to why, this is the conversation that followed.
