To all Aussies...if you want the game on Steam, get it now before they suddenly jack up the prices, like they did with Watch_Dogs.

NEVER buy gold/deluxe or any other shit other that base game because they only give u 1 shit weapon or a mission that u finish in 10 sec and u payed for it 10-20 eur more just for that so is not worth it better wait for game to release then see how it is and buy it if u liked what i saw
and there are other ways to get the game cheaper
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually, I was satisfied with the Season Pass, which gave all the the Gold/Deluxe Edition had to offer, besides the extra DLC with Aveline, which was literally free. After all, you can't blame Ubisoft for something that every company does. I don't see people whining about TF2's stupid hat system. If you want a cool one, you have to pay LOTS of money. And you either do it by paying Valve directly for keys and crates, or inderectly by the fees you pay on the market for buying those items. Same for CS:GO. DLCs are not something are forced to get, just like customization items. You are said what you get, and you decide.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep. Worse than EA. Just compare Sims 3 and Watch Dogs... Watch Dogs was going to be a next gen game and now is a crap that they don't update much to fix bugs and bad gameplay, at least EA keeps updating fixing bugs and changing gameplay, and has good games that are not bugged or bad programmed like Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell:Blacklist, etc...
Comment has been collapsed.
Gameplay in Watch Dogs is awesome imo, I enjoy the game a lot, can't say the same about everything else, but I don't think game will last much longer than beating it and doing some side quests, is not GTA V after all, not really that much of stuff to do after beating game and doing some stupid things.
For EA games we are used to have games overpriced, seems Ubisoft goes the same way, and their games always come with bugs, bad optimizations, and now with downgrades, and yes I agree EA at least fixes their games Ubisoft and their Uplay are just stupid.
Don't worry about Far Cry 4, it will be cheap upon release, because it will probably come with Graphic Cards.
Comment has been collapsed.
I played at Watch Dogs with a friend. I took a car. I thought it was an ice skate.
Comment has been collapsed.
Depends on the car, driving is not best in this game, and some good fast cars are just shit when turning them, you can get used to drive, but still tons of cars will be shit, I tried the Ice Cream van and this thing was surprisingly better when controlling even at full speed than most of the racing cars.

I can admit the crazy expectations, but it's not a game of very high quality either. I'd say mediocre at best. To each their own indeed.

I played the game on a damn laptop and it was still good...

Not sure how the thing you play it on effects it being a good or bad game but I am glad some people found enjoyment out of it, to be fair it played fine on my system besides driving which stuttered to hell and back, that was with a 750ti.
I feel like I flushed 30 bucks down a toilet.
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope. Simply that their spam about this game was freaking awesome, and when they delayed the launch of the game they said that was for fixing bugs, and after all that you receive what you receive... As you said below, expectations, but was not my fault, they don't told us that was going to be a 'meh' game.
They deleted their "next gen" posts in their blog xD http://blog.ubi.com/watch-dogs-next-gen-game-resolution-dynamism/ but you can still find the entry in the blog... They know what have they done with this.
Comment has been collapsed.
EA is by far more anti-consumer than Ubisoft.
Comment has been collapsed.
I bought Watch Dogs as a pre-order and it worked fine for me. EA and Ubisoft have been about equal in buggishness in my experience.
You're also comparing a star title from a long-established series against a new game, it's a bit of a false comparison. Let's not forget the move to Origin and how EA didn't initially offer manual patches to Sims 3, trying to force you through Origin (and then when they did, they kept it on the down-low). Or perhaps how they took the usual shovel approach to the expansion packs, and will likely continue to do so into Sims 4, cutting out base construction items to sprinkle over other DLC (weather, spiral stairs, pets, elevators, step-ladders etc).
EA are really no better in comparison, at all.
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree with you. Not only that, Ubisoft had been making great games but not all companies are perfect and some companies can have a few plunders here and there. Honestly, the only things I'm disappointed on was AC3 and Watch Dogs. Everything else was fine for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's true about EA. I'm not telling that EA is cool, simple is 'less shit' than Ubisoft, because with Ubisoft all you see is "We are going to make this freaking new game that will change you vision of games, prebuy it and then check how shittty the game is compared to the expectations that we made you think. Oh, and we are releasing it a few months later because we are fixing bugs but when we release it you will see that is plenty of bugs, actually we were wasting your money instead of working." and with EA no, they just spam what they are selling. Have you seen the game The Division? They are selling it exactly the same way as they have done with Watch Dogs, and surely will be a crap, but tons of people are going to prebuy it because they don't learnt anything about Watch Dogs. They live on prebuys.
Comment has been collapsed.
MAN... MAN... SKYRIM was in works for 5+ years and it was FULL of bugs. More bugs than even all the bugs in all the Pokemon games... And NOBODY bugs an eye... NOBODY. And you whine about some stupid NON game-breaking bugs in Ubisoft's game? First of all, let's get clear. There's NOT a SINLGE game out there with NO bugs. There's just none... It's impossible. Every game has it's small and big bugs. EVERY ONE. I have played the whole AC franchise, more than once, besides ACIV, on a PC that's 5 years old with a GPU that could barely play ACIV with 60 FPS in minimum settings. Guess what? I have only experienced one game-breaking bug, and no more than 20 normal bugs, usually graphic ones, like outfits going crazy. Seriously, I even play Watch Dogs on a damn laptop which was totally wrecked after the screen got shuttered (but you could still use another screen for it), and it was playing fine. Sure, with 40 FPS, but FINE. It's like calling Skyrim a crap because of it's bugs, it's just stupid.
Comment has been collapsed.
First, don't shout at me. Second: I repeat, they said that was going to be a really freaking awesome game with next-gen graphics and such things, and all you see is a mediocre game with graphics of about 5 years ago (No reflections?? WTF??) and shitty programmed (How the hell car driving is programmed?? A monkey programmed it or what??), floating plants, invisible hitboxes... Even in old GTA gmes vehicles react to train crashes! That's a next gen if you live in year 2000, not now... Ubisoft lied because wanted prebuys, because they knowed that the price was going to drop massively after release (now 5 TF2 keys in steamtrades = less than 10 bucks). Why they delayed the release and said that was for fixing bugs? Because obviously don't was for fixing bugs (obviously because is plenty of stupid bugs), was to have more prebuy time. More prebuy time = more money. Shame on them.
I don't like Skyrim much, but I'm pretty sure that they don't falsely spammed it like Ubisoft have done with Watch Dogs the same way as typical laundry detergent ads: "whiter clothes with only 1 cup of this", liars...
And one simple thing about comparing Skyrim with Watch Dogs: Has a definetely better gameplay, and you can't discuss that.

So how is using a torrent as a normal mean of downloading the game helping as a suggestion if he's not implying the pirated ones ? You got many Ubisoft games legally thru torrents before ? You're right a torrent isn't necessarly a means of piracy but the way that is implied here is directly pointing at those kinds of torrents.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can't get in trouble for implications. No, there aren't any legal torrents but 'technically' he's not specifying for OP to torrent a specific game so from my experience I doubt that he cares much for if it's allowed or not.
Comment has been collapsed.
Of course you can get in trouble for implications. If I implied that I was going to assassinate the president a SWAT team would be at my door tonight.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, that's you being a smartass. Of course you would get in trouble for threatening someone. It's criminal harassment, against the law(At least here in Canada it's against the law to threaten someone (again, criminal harassment)).
Comment has been collapsed.
No, he's not specifying at all. He never said 'Just torrent the overpriced gold edition'. It doesn't matter what the thread is about, he could start talking about how 'this really sucks though'. It's just an implication that he might be talking about the topic. The actual identity of 'it' isn't specified.
Comment has been collapsed.
It could even be a meme catch-phrase. YOU have no need to reply because you're not understanding that assumptions are bad.
Of course, I understand what you're saying but it's ridiculous.

'Torrents themselves are peer2peer sharing. Popular among pirates because taking down one guy wont take down the torrent when there are thousands of others sharing it.' What himohillo said. That doesn't make a torrent itself piracy.
Comment has been collapsed.
Again, you're just assuming what flashmozzq meant. I mean, the 'ass' part of the word is sure clear.
Comment has been collapsed.
Please, tell me how "I hate how Gold Editions are expensive" and a "Just torrent or buy later when is not expensive" does not tell exactly "Download via torrent the game that you don't want to pay for".
And don't be an smartass, context is important in conversations. A conversation without context is just random sentences without sense so anyone with common sense knows that context can't be excluded. If you say that to a judge you'll lose the trial because excluding the context is stupid, because context is one of the most important things in a conversation.

um you said "A torrent isn't piracy." and then you're quoting "... Popular among pirates because ..."

Comment has been collapsed.
You could upload a game to some free hosting site but that would be taken out fast and you would have to do it again constantly but with torrents you can avoid that hassle when multiple users have the files and they are sharing it anyone who wants to download it.
Please remember that piracy isn't exclusive to the internet and every single tool ever can be used for illegal purposes. Torrents only allow easy sharing among them over the internet.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't deny that torrents facilitate pirating. I also didn't claim that everything shared via torrents is illegal (e.g. Blizzard uses the torrent protocol to distribute WoW updates).
But this thread is about overpriced games, someone suggested to torrent the game instead of buying and another user claimed "A torrent isn't piracy."
Now how in the world is illegally downloading a game via torrents not pirating?
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because pirates use torrents as an easy and reliable way to download and share files, it doesn't mean a torrent itself is piracy.
Following up on what you posted below, you're making assumptions. He hasn't specified what he's talking about and as the saying goes... Don't assume, it makes an ASS of U and ME.
y u no smart?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I apologize for the "y u no smart" part.
Like you said, I was actually assuming that in the context of a thread about overpriced games, the suggestion to "use torrents or buy year later on sales" would imply that the torrent protocol should be used to illegally aquire an overpriced game.
I really didn't know that we were talking about the torrent protocol in general, as there were no implications that the topic suddenly changed from pricey games to legal file sharing.
I sincerely hope you accept my apology.
let's just leave it at that.

No, the extras most of the time are bullshit, most of the time are skins, ost, and other crap you can find if you know how to handle a search engine. Not to mention cancerous day 1 dlc.

Never buy full price. wait a year or two and snatch it for $10.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't always wait for it to hit $10, but the idea is right. Usually, $20 is my special spot for console games and about $10 for games on Steam. I see no reason to buy a game within the first year and pay a premium price simply because its new.
I may break with my trend and get Destiny a few months after release, if it ends up being any good. The Beta was encouraging, so perhaps I'll find a good price on Black Friday.

Never buy a game pre-reserved, it does not worth it.

My Dark Souls 2 pre-order was definitely worth it.

Not quite, previously Ubi's season passes have just been $20 max, so either they're bumping them up to $30 now or they're charging extra for including the pre-order bonuses in the Gold Edition. Probably the former. Hopefully they plan to produce more DLC than for previous games to justify the price hike.
Well, ideally they'd just throw everything in the base game and not do DLC at all, but that's not likely to happen. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
why not do it after all people buy elite for cod
as long as people keep buying the crap they will keep feeding you the crap
every has the power to voice there disgust by not buying the game yet they still buy them by the millions and yet they sit back and complain about price
and just so you know a lot companies have been doing that for some time with those stupid season passes
Comment has been collapsed.
So you want to pay $60 for the full game and all major future DLC? It's a nice thought, I'd jump at the chance to pay once for a game like World of Warcraft for example and get every expansion pack released from 2007 to 2014 completely for free... that isn't how it works though. Nothing to get pissed off over.
At what point do you just sit back and realize you're kind of a cheapskate?
Comment has been collapsed.
I realized that when I signed up at Cheapassgamer.com back in 2009. Of course, I'm also self-aware enough to realize that potential savings from that site have surely been offset by shit I've bought that I wouldn't have otherwise purchased. So, I haven't necessarily saved any money, but I have gotten more overall for the same amount of theoretical funds.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm thrifty as hell. There's nothing wrong with it.
But if you think you're entitled to a full triple-A blockbuster game AND future DLC on release for the standard retail price... and you're actually so upset about it that you have to moan about it on the forums... that's a whole new level.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's indeed disgusting that parts of the game are sold UPON the 60€ price tag. vomits
Comment has been collapsed.
I never said a thing about expecting the full game and future DLC on release for standard price. Perhaps you were reading someone else's gripe. I was merely responding to the cheapskate comment, and that I'm perfectly content to wait until it comes down in price.
Comment has been collapsed.
Best part of a Season Pass - you only get all non-exclusive DLC for one season, never all DLC. So, they can have three or four regular seasons; DLC exclusives for stores, special promotions, and general extras; and limited edition DLCs - none of which are covered by the Gold Edition's first season pass.
EDIT: Or is the best part that one doesn't know the quality of the DLC before one buys it? Well, they're pretty close.
Comment has been collapsed.
First of all, I'm not sure what qualifies as a "season". Some games actually do offer all major DLC pieces in the season pass... see: Bioshock Infinite. To my understanding, the Rockstar Pass for Max Payne 3 netted me all of the DLC, as much as I don't care for the multiplayer. Maybe Ubisoft has a procedure it follows with it's season pass where there are "multiple seasons" of DLC... I'd need you to enlighten me though since I've never heard of it.
Second of all, no one is making you buy anything. Any time you pre-order something it's a risk. Am I supposed to feel bad for you?
Comment has been collapsed.
That's part of what makes the Season Pass so great. They don't define it, so it can mean different things at different times. So, you don't even know the extent of what you're buying. Maybe it'll be all DLC. Or maybe it'll be one year's worth (like Borderlands), and then there'll be Season 2 for the following year (a collection of all DLC released in year 2), followed by Season 3 for the subsequent year. And then the Executive Upgrade Pack, so you can get the exclusive DLCs sent to certain stores. And then the Ultimate Upgrade Pack to get the exclusive DLCs sent as part of special promotions.
Comment has been collapsed.
Since when is $60 for a big-budget title on release an unreasonable price? Especially a game with the pedigree of the Far Cry series. I'm not sure why anyone would think a season pass (potentially all future DLC) should be included. I can see why you would WANT that, but if you feel you're entitled to it, you've become a bit spoiled... and yes, a cheapskate.
Comment has been collapsed.
First of all you said "Since" and we are talkin about something current so everything before now is since the 80s and early 80s no one way buying games, it was all in arcades in the early 80s, and even the late 80 games were 40 - 80usd, and obviously final fantasy wasnt unreasonable for the higher price.
Comment has been collapsed.
So not to give up to companies trying to screw you over by removing content from the base game so that they can sell it to you as 'Day 1 DLCs' is being 'cheap' ?? Blizzard decided to charge people for the base game then a monthly fee then charge you for every expansion that came out over the course of 7 years.. That's the norm now, so deal with it ??
No thanx, there's nothing to realize here other than they trust you to be the fools you are for giving up to this kind of shenanigans.
Comment has been collapsed.
nice logic so everyone is cheap because they do not want to pay 30 dollar for DLC that at this point does not exist and hope it is good? if not you are cheap
i have no problem paying 60 for a game that is worth and i have no problem paying for DLC that is worth it,Borderlands 1 and 2 and bought the DLC though with 2 i did not get the stupid money grabs that are the head hunter dlc granted i do not expect them to be free but they should be no more then 1.99 not 4.99
and there have been several games that have given out free DLC and worth while DLC
just because you throw money at something does not make you any better then someone who does not want to throw there money around you may not be cheap but i bet you owe so much its coming out your well we know what
Comment has been collapsed.
Gold Edition of Far Cry 4 is 80€ now, I guess 70-80€ will cost the normal edition on consoles, so even with that shit overprice we still have better prices than consoles :P And the worst is that ppl will pay 70€ to get Far Cry 4 normal edition on their "new generation" consoles.
The prices about games go worse and worse with the time, we used to have max of 50€ for PC games, after it went to 60€, after they used to sell you 80% of the games and rest 20% as DLCs that should be in the games, after they used to make Season Pass for every game even if game doesn't need it, now they want to make Gold, Deluxe and other versions that include some extra useless content, and also want to make you buy the Season Pass, and DLCs not included in it.
So Far Cry 4 Gold Edition + Season Pass + DLCs not included in Season Pass, how much it will cost?
Comment has been collapsed.
Proud to be "foolish". Will be buying both as gold. Paid $90 for Watch Dogs, don't regret it one bit. I shall continue to support them as long as they keep pumping out great games (and no this is not sarcasm).

only watch dog was not that good?
and they keep pumping out crap because people like you buy it
this is not sarcasm either
buying a season pass before stuff is even out is dumb less we forget Bioshock Infinite not even close to being worth the pass
would you buy a prototype car hoping that it is good?
DLC was meant to add something to the game, not to push sales the sad thing is most dlc now a days is just stuff they cut from the game to use as DLC

For funsies, I'll tell you about the greatest Ubi bug of all time. I bought a game with my first paycheck, retail copy, and put it into the drive. Wouldn't run. Not the game, the drive. So, I thought it was broken. Put in an old game, worked fine. So, I went to the library for internet to inquire on the help forums, and got screamed off for being a filthy pirate.
Several months later, and word began trickling out that this was DRM locking out your drive accidentally, miscue with burner drives (was a new thing, then). No apologies from Ubi, but those affected were directed to go buy non-burner drives. (Yes, that was their only fix.) But as it turned out, the DRM was incompatible with several non-burner drives as well. So, a lot of people ended up with shiny new coasters. And Ubi never did apologize. Because, piracy.

Why am I not shocked that a bunch of people on a site to get free games, on a service notorious for their incredible sales, don't appreciate that a triple A big-budget release might actually be worth $60.
Not every company is out to get you. Not every game is only worth 75% off its starting price. Not every DLC is classified as "day one DLC" that youre entitled to free of charge.
You're more than welcome to wait for the inevitable price drop and sale too. Why all the heartache?
Comment has been collapsed.
Frustration at business practice is why.
The thing is, $60 isn't too much to ask for a great game. However, it's way too much to ask for a bad game. When you put a price tag like that on something, you're asking a buyer to take a gamble. Not just on the hopes that the product will be good, but that the day-1 expanded content will be worth that extra price. This is of course, on top of vital patching, incompatibility issues, potential game-access issues, etc. It goes beyond just a matter of taste, but to a roll of the dice. Hence why the price-point makes people facepalm.
I mean, sure, it can swing back around to the old "Well nobody is forcing you to buy it" jazz, but then again, nobody was 'forced to buy' that one piece of art which was literally just meat thrown on a bed. That doesn't mean people won't facepalm at it, y'know?
Comment has been collapsed.
Simple thing is, majority of games are simply not worth $60 anymore. There was a time a game would be played more than 12 hours before be put down for eternity. Do the fucking math, mate... That is $5 an hour! That is a lot! A LOT! For a game that would easily get, lets say 500 hours, I'd be like "YEAH! Totally is worth the $60!" but that isn't the case. AC series don't seem to have much replay value. Maybe this one will be slightly different, making it worth $30 instead of $15.... but still.

If you pre-purchase now you get a GUARANTEED 60 minutes of gameplay!

Wait for sale, or just pirate the games then. Such greedy bastards like this deserve no support from community. Why should I cut my own meat to get such a incomplete shit from some cunning asswipe producer, while I can just have it all for free ?
fuck DLCs, fuck blood suckers, fuck Ubisoft.
Comment has been collapsed.
You shouldn't pirate the games. Then Ubisoft will just blame pirating for bad sales and make worse PC versions or not make a PC version at all. Not pre-ordering and waiting for the game to get cheaper sends a different message.
Comment has been collapsed.
Piracy vs poor quality/port control is a bit of a chicken-or-the-egg situation though. Piracy has existed ever since people could first purchase tape cassette decks, and these companies aren't exactly small-time groups with no research or stat-tracking. They should know that poor service, unpolished product and bad pricing all cause an increase in piracy. Steam got big on a combined effort of good pricing, paying attention to gaping concerns, and combating piracy with a combo of their launcher and the ethic of "How do you combat piracy? By providing a better service".
There is a reason Valve will remain at the very top of the digital distribution race for the forseeable future. If only other companies would take a leaf out of their book, then there might be some competition and the perfect cause for the various services to try to excel and outdo one another.

I'm not speaking to the quality of Uplay (which face it, everyone and their mother is aware of), but the hypocrisy of Ubisoft saying that Uplay is perfect in stopping piracy, and then complaining about how piracy just runs rampant on PC anyway.

Im not saying that u should pirate every game, but maybe if people wouln't buy those 70 € games, the price would drop, is the same thing that happens when a game gets in a "sale", u think that even when the game is 50% that the company don't make money out of this? of course they do, "but hey, if people pays 70€ for a game, why would i sell it for less?, after all, im just a huge company and i don't really give a shit if u like the game or not, as long as u pay the price." same happens with clothes and shit even food, once they have made a "name" in the world, they can start overpricing all the games and products cause they are sure that a lot of people are going to buy those anyways, of course they are going to complain about it, but they are going to pay it anyways, so... they don't really care, why do u think that ubisoft and this kinda companies keep making those "Assassin's creed, Far cry, dead islands, Resident evil" games? cause people like those?, no buddy, they make those cause people pay 70 € just cause of the game name.
Comment has been collapsed.
companies (all companies!) make games to earn money. that shouldn't surprise anyone.
question is, if 60€ (not 70...) is really overpriced. we can only speculate about the budget, expected winnings and so on. one example: tomb raider (2013) sold 4 million copies at full price and was not considered a financial success. what would have happened, if they sold it for half price? would they have gotten double the amount of customers? more than that? or less? it's so hard to tell for us, how much money they need to make off of a high budget title. and what would happen if they suddenly changed their prices. believe me, i am not happy with the far cry 4 price. and the lock means that i will probably have to pay full price (or wait quite some time). i would love to see it for 30€ on EU store. but i can also understand that companies like ubisoft don't want to take that risk, and instead do what they always did.
