Your favorite game client.
I'm fine with three of them for different reasons, as well as non listed sites like GOG (unless this is based on the client?].
UPlay I had problems with though, to the point where I can't play one of my games as the client will always insist I'm offline when I try to run it.

i voted steam, but uplay is a close contender...
despite the always online, their launcher and concept is nice.

I contact them 2 times, slow response (4-5 days) but job well done. Your vote? :P

Steam support is the worst support I have every had the displeasure of dealing with, hands down. Origin's (EA) support is actually really really good, they actually have a brain and try their hardest to make things right.
Steam support is so bad on so many levels, they aren't just slow, but they never do shit for you until you bug them over and over, and even then it's almost impossible to get a resolution from them. :(

You've certainly asked in a place devoid of any bias.

Origin is the definitely best, technically speaking.

Yeah, i like i too. I love when russians are easily hacking into accounts just with bruteforce or when client downloads wrong game versions and not letting to change game language without changing origin account details and without re downloading every game. I love when it verifies its files and decides to re download everything because of one missing file. I love when client crashes without any word in the mid of playing. I love those never ending update-loops. I love this useless overlay that often makes older games to crash. Not to even mention that it's really slow and loves to spy its users.

I have no idea why, but there is some russian webpage where they are hacking into origin accounts just for fun. They are just giving those stolen accounts up for random peoples from their site in various topics (like "leave message here and i'll send you PM with login, password and answer for a secret question"). i have seen hundreds of account names there. I'm not sure if they are active yet, tho.
I've learnt there that even if you make a non dictionary password with 11 mixed uppercase and lowercase chars, numbers and symbols it's still fairly possible to loose account on origin.

The only game I ever installed from Origin was Sims 3. After downloading and installing the whole thing, I started the game only to be greeted by a message telling me it needed to download a patch for the game. The patch was 2 Gig in size. At least on Steam you download the latest version of the game, not an old one that needs patching right away.

Unfortunately lots of clients popping up nowadays. I have Steam, Origin, Uplay, Battle.net, Glyph and Arc installed atm. Like steam the most, Uplay the least.

Steam
GOG
Origin
Uplay
Desura
in that order for me

The one thing Origin has over Steam in spades is customer support. You can get an issue resolved within the hour using their online chat instead of days or mostly like WEEKS with Steam's web support. Steam is absolutely horrendous in their customer support. And their UI is a choice between too tiny (default) or way too big (big picture mode).

The downside of this, at least for me, is most issues you have to bring to support are things that should have worked in the first place but their buggy service screwed up somehow.

Origin looks the best IMO. Like you said, it has a nice clean interface. Great support too, always been super quick and super helpful, and usually give a bonus. Hardly had any issues with Origin at all.
As for Steam, it's slow and annoying, support is horrendous. But thanks to its success most games are only sold there. Better in terms of community though, but only because it's what all my friends use.
uPlay is total shit IMO. Cannot stand it, even after they updated it to be less shit. If there was one client I found to be useless and that should straight up just go, it'd be uPlay. Ubisoft need to learn that you can polish a turd but it's still shit at the end of the day, though it's not just their client that applies to.
Never use Desura.

I don't mind any of them except Uplay. I wish Ubisoft would just die already and roll over.

Steam is more than just a gaming platform. Over the years, it has become a worldwide social community for gamers, streamers, watchers and developers.
Most gamers stick with Steam for its vast array of features which make it more than just a simple gaming platform compared to Uplay, Origin or Desura. And as onevoltz said in a post earlier, even if you hate Steam, it's too late to turn your back to it and say good-bye. Now that most games are activated and managed through DRMs, most gamers will go with Steam due to its humongous popularity and overall "qualities". By the time you realize you should have gone DRM-free, you own 100+ games on Steam.
Another reason why people will keep coming to Steam is due to most gaming websites require Steam to create accounts or login. It's like the Facebook of the everyday PC gamer. Just login using Steam and bam, you got a new account on most gaming forums. Easy, and quick.
Lately, most of us have noticed a significant decrease in popularity for Uplay, and otherwise for Origin. Steam also lost the interest of a handful of PC gamers over the last year due to some less profitable business decisions, such as some update on the trading system, region locks and other small details.
Origin on the other hand, has increased their rating a bit due to having a much better support, and the free games they have been giving away doesn't hurt them at all.
Uplay hasn't been going too good lately. Starting with butchered up releases, bad initiatives, and failing to trust the gaming community on some decisions.
As for Desura, I'll quote a friend here; "Desura is the flea market of PC gaming". Although its popularity is fairly mediocre, it stay one of the best DRM you can find. Easy, reliable, more convenient than most other popular DRMs. Who knows? It is quite possible that Desura will become the next "Steam".

Realy nice post and some detailed thoughs never passed from my mind, thanks.

And "cloudsave for all games"? Steam has that too[...]
Only on a few games.

Well, steam has more games, so if we compare how many games have cloud support on both plataforms, it would probably be a tie or something of the sort, right?

Some oldies prefer empty interfaces. Sure steam has alot of features but please give me the option to disable some of them. About cloudsave only about 30% of games on steam support it. The custom skins are nice but you need to update them everytime a new steam update is released (its not my thing). :)

The most social features, hours played, activity, achievements, games bought etc, I want to show the stuff i want to and not everything i do, sadly we have 2 options: private and public profile.

My opinion:
Origin: Nice and clean interface, speed, cloudsave for all games, ea support (yes true), *refunds, if i had the option to transfer my steam games there...
Steam: the biggest game store, clunky-ugly-boring interface, some unnecessary social features,
goodsupportbutreally slow.Uplay: Some nice features like achievement rewards to unlock stuff in game like: soundtracks, wallpapers, weapons, etc but i dont care. Support never replied to my ticket.
I never tried Desura.
I created that discussion to post you opinions. I feel somehow weird using steam, interface never changed all these years and gamers need a better ui, we are not in 2000 anymore...
EDIT: GOG not included in the list couse its a 100% drm free service.
EDIT: UBI please remove the requirement of uplay on steam.
EDIT(28/02/2015): After a week, here is the final ventrict and the winner: STEAM with 700+ votes.
