i knew this whole post was worthless and ill informed when you said steam had good support. not only is it slow, but its almost always poor. their support staff barely even know how steam works, have zero technical experience, dont actually DO anything that they say they'll do, and basically read all their answers/solutions from a spreadhsheet...

Opinion from one person dont make the discussion worthless. Its just an opinion and not the voice of a god.

I use all four. I don't have any major complaints about either of them. I actually prefer Steam's interface the best, Desura 2nd, Uplay 3rd and Origin last. I prefer a list view of my games instead of tiles, grid or icons (whatever they decide to call it), it's cleaner looking that way. Uplay has a list view, but it always defaults to the grid (tiles) view every time and I have to switch to it if I want it. I only have a few games on both Origin and Uplay, so right now it's not a big deal. If I had hundreds like I do on Steam, I would go mad.
My only complaint about any of them is Origin decides to forget your password every few weeks. I suppose this is a security "feature," but it's an annoyance. I use a password manager and generate random passwords as long as the site/client will allow, so every few weeks when I launch Origin, I have to load the password manager and copy/paste the password.
If I could buy all of my games from one service, I would choose GOG. No interface needed, just the way I like it.

Have Steam, Origin & Uplay installed, along with Gog.
I only have UPlay installed because Ubisoft games on steam require it.
I only have Orgin installed because Mass Effect 3 was not released on Steam, and I wanted to complete the series.
All other games I have are through either Steam or Gog.

I started the same way as you, i got origin only for mass effect 3 and c&c collection but with the time grow with me.

I've never had a single problem with steam's download servers, though admittedly the support is slower than Origin's and the initial automated support wall can be frustrating. On the flip side, Origin still has a but from it's beta days where it will randomly and repeatedly ditch huge amounts of data from downloading games without word or warning (in the scale of GBs), and that's years old.
Out of curiosity, what part of Valve's policies do you find objectionable?
Comment has been collapsed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Valve doesn't really have any control over price-per-region or region lock issues, do they?
And refunds have been offered where a game has been not as advertised (or abandoned but then sold as compete). The only time I personally had refund issues was with All Points Bulletin, where the developers actually got dissolved under four months after the game's release, taking the games servers with it. Contacting for a refund, Valve pointed me towards EA who were the publishers for the title, contacting EA, they pointed me to Valve, because they were the sellers. Neither wanted to communicate across the gap so I was left with a dead game (until years later when someone bought the franchise and ran it again, but offering nothing in exchange for being a previous customer beyond a token permanent unlock of a very low-grade weapon you can actually unlock just by completing the tutorial now).
In fact, EA is unique in their refund policy (which is still quite new), but they are in a unique position to do this because of their limited catalog which primarily features games that they themselves hold a stake in.

Region locks are still there with a reason, and unless you want to purchase a gift copy for someone in another region, it really doesn't affect you unless you want to game the system to undercut prices, which seems to be the primary reason people are annoyed at the region locking. Being angry with a service because it closes a loophole strikes me as more than a little bit over-entitled. Urgh. I hate that term. Still, it'd be great if people could buy giftable copies for other regions (with perhaps a tool that lets you highlight a steam friend and tells you which region to purchase), because when coupled with the short wait-time and perhaps a check of when two people added each other as friends, it really shouldn't be an issue to allow this kind of thing.
Refund policy I do however have to agree with you on, now. I just looked into it. I get why a digital goods seller would want to have a hard stance against certain kinds of refund, Steam's general stance of "no refunds ever, unless exceptional circumstances" makes me furrow my brow a bit. I actually thought you were previously referring to Origin's no-questions return policy that lets people test whether they like the game, to be honest.
Though at the same time I think the equation is a little different when it comes to steam. Steam differs from places like Origin or Desura because it has an active marketplace, and you can actually trade in digital in-game items as well as pre-bought copies of games. That's something that doesn't function nearly the same was as on other digital platforms. I mean, it's not unusual for keys or copies to get recalled when a price loophole is found. Then again, the refund policy has been like this since before the marketplace and account inventories were really a big thing.
So yeah, you have a point about the refund policies. I still disagree on region locks issue though, even if it could use some adjustments

+1, i forget to clarify the refund which is a plus.

Titanfall is my favorite game and I get kicked out of the servers so much with Origin but I never had an issue with Steam. So steam all the way and I like the interface on steam compared to Origin so I don't know what you are talking about.

Steam was the best... some time ago, but then they changed (Cross Region Trading for example). Origin was the worst ... some time ago, but they also changed (allowes me to buy from foreign stores with cheaper Prices, awesome Support, On the House). Not the whole truth.. ubi was the worse and is even getting more worse (The only Client which has Problems with the Downloads.. and thats just the best part). So
Origin > GOG > Steam > Desura > everything else ..... uplay isn´t even worth to be mentioned on that list.

Not really a poll about what's the best but more or less what's the least worse.
Though in any case. GOG Galaxy has them all beat.

How exactly is placing restrictions to prevent abusers / scammers / resellers a bad thing? Traders can still operate easily, they just have a short wait period. People complain about scams and revoked items/keys all the time, but then the moment they take steps to ensure it's less likely to happen, everyone talks about it like it's the end of steam. Seriously.
Comment has been collapsed.
it's not the end of steam.
and if it's to prevent things you wrote, they are just doing it wrong way, because it didn't prevent the smallest thing(only trading for cheap prices, that's obviously to make more money, not to help people, have fun dreaming moar.).
tell me what does steam do to prevent all those bots? I'm getting like 3-4 invitations or comments from private profiles which sends me fishy links. Well I don't even care, because it's enough to block and ignore such users. No need for steam to solve stupid problems. Especially if it affects my wallet.
"People complain about scams and revoked items/keys all the time"
Common, think about it, is that steam blame and problem or people are just stupid to trade with fishy people?
You would understand me more if you live in a country, where I have to pay 4,2 of my currency for 1 of steam currency, which is not adequate to my country market situation.
The best example about how steam care about people is support, it only proves how much they care about our wallets.
But it's still the best platform, gotta <3 it 4ever.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah but that's the thing, they can make more money while also preventing scams :P
I can't remark on what they're doing / trying to do to counter the scam bots, but even if they're falling behind on such an issue, it doesn't mean that the waiting period isn't a measure that helps impede the circulation of jacked goods or price loopholing. One of the issues is that when something bad goes down, unrestricted trading means the items can be scattered within mere minutes, making the chances of recovering them way less. And it doesn't really matter who is to blame on the revoked items and keys, the fact is that people complain about it when it happens to them, but then also complain about the steps taken that help to counter it. You can't have it both ways!

I agree. I don't even play CS GO anymore, but I am riddled with these dumb bots. Valve really has to do something about it.
Like you MUST have atleast 1 paid game in your library in order to add friends.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agree, why a person can invite and add friends without a paid game on S T E A M is beyond me, is a game platform and not social media in first place.
Comment has been collapsed.
I highly disagree with you. Sure Steam is supposed to be a gaming client, but you also have to look at competitors. This time i'm not talking about Orign, Desura, or Uplay.
You see Steam is what mainly represents PC gaming. PlayStation network and Xbox Live have social features; so why is it that Steam would not have them? Without social features people would not be able to see what games their friends are playing, not be able to play with them. Hell, if Steam never had any social features and my friends never told me about Steam, then right now I would be playing on an Xbox rather than a PC.
I must admit, maybe inviting and adding friends without a payed game on Steam if a little bit harsh. But atleast they should step-up in bot protection.

Steam : Huge selection, typically great prices, backup feature, slow support, trusted backing company.
Origin : Limited selection, typically bad prices. occasional free titles, bugged downloads, live support available, backing company has stained reputation.
Uplay : Limited selection, limited features, cool unlockable extras (soundtracks, wallpapers, etc), generally unremarkable.
Desura : Broad selection, little quality control, unintuitive interface, pricing is all over the place.
My biggest gripe with Origin is the bugged downloads. It has been an issue ever since the client was in beta, where a download would randomly and for no apparent reason 'trim' itself by a substantial amount. For instance, if you had downloaded 85% of a 15GB game, it would randomly ditch a large portion of the data and set itself back to 20% downloaded, and repeat this in a random loop. The "solution" is to enable and download the beta client, which strangely enough actually seems to help... even though the issue is years old. That's a massive oversight, especially for people with slower connections or limited bandwidth allowances. This is of course overlooking the entire EULA fiasco.
It might be cool if Humble could get in on the scene, given they sometimes have prices that beat out even the Steam sales sometimes, but that would be too much like burning bridges. They're in a great spot where they are. I wonder how GoG's client will shape up?

Even with all its problems I prefer Steam over Origin.
The biggest problem most people have with steam is that its starting to flood with junk titles - the only reason these junk titles get on Steam is because people are paying for them.
Suffice it to say, if you live by your own standards, the junk titles on steam are merely a nuisance - and one not as problematic as the overarching focus on "accessibility" in gaming, that results in dumbing down of titles.
Which is something that EA is very much an industry leader in. And since Origin primarily focusses on EA products (with a few exceptions being added lately it seems), that alone is reason enough NOT to prefer it as my primary platform.
Uplay is Uplay, its garbage and thats enough said. Its Ubisoft trying to get in with the cool kids but not really understanding how things work.
They all suffer from the statistics issues.

Origin added third party titles too but very limited, i choose steam on that matter but like you said alot of junk added on steam, looks like a junkyard :P

Yeeaaah, especially given the themes of each game can be drastically different. I actually picked a placeholder name back when I opened my UPlay account for Burnout Paradise, only to later regret the name for more serious games like Watch_Dogs multiplayer

I prefer Steam, but that could be primarily because I started on it. However, it also seemed to have a lot of the market, so it seemed like a pretty good choice if I wanted to have a large selection of games to choose from. I try to keep as many of my games as possible on one platform (Steam), since it's a lot easier to handle things that way. I have Desura, but rarely use it; same for Origin. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with either, it's just that the vast majority of my library is on Steam, so I tend to stick with it. I've never used Uplay, so I can't comment on it.

+1, I try to stay mostly on one platform.
I have some games on Origin, but I never play them

My opinion:
Origin: Nice and clean interface, speed, cloudsave for all games, ea support (yes true), *refunds, if i had the option to transfer my steam games there...
Steam: the biggest game store, clunky-ugly-boring interface, some unnecessary social features,
goodsupportbutreally slow.Uplay: Some nice features like achievement rewards to unlock stuff in game like: soundtracks, wallpapers, weapons, etc but i dont care. Support never replied to my ticket.
I never tried Desura.
I created that discussion to post you opinions. I feel somehow weird using steam, interface never changed all these years and gamers need a better ui, we are not in 2000 anymore...
EDIT: GOG not included in the list couse its a 100% drm free service.
EDIT: UBI please remove the requirement of uplay on steam.
EDIT(28/02/2015): After a week, here is the final ventrict and the winner: STEAM with 700+ votes.
