I believe it's a Steamworks game so any keys you get are steam activatable. You could get it from GMG for $24ish with the promo code WORLD-ATWAR-20PEC. Not sure if that's a big enough discount but if you're planning to get it from there and don't have a GMG account, could you use my referral? It nets us both $5 in credit but only AFTER you make a purchase.

Hell yeah, thanks a lot man. I'll save that referral for another game down the road, perhaps Dead Island.

Yeah, the Amazon page says;
Initial installation requires one-time Internet connection for Steam authentication; software installations required (included with the game) include Steam Client, Microsoft Visual C++2008 Runtime Libraries and Microsoft DirectX.
So I'm sure once that's done, it's permanently on your Steam account like any other game would be.

I don't even think you need to do that if you don't want to. You should be able to get the key from Amazon and just activate it in Steam. That's what I did with my copy I got from Green Man Gaming.
To grab your keys from Amazon go to "Your Digital Items" in the upper right corner after you login, then go to "Your Games and Software Library" and the keys should be there.
It's been a while since I bought a digital download from Amazon, but if I recall correctly you can access the key without having to download. AFAIK, all keys for Civ 5 should activate on Steam without having to go through an installer or anything.
Downloading it straight from Steam will get you the latest version anyhow. Downloading the installer from Amazon will mean you still need to download updates from Steam after it installs.

Right on man, thanks. I haven't made an Amazon purchase for quite some time. Think the last thing I bought there was Mafia II for a buddy last Christmas. Thanks for the heads up!

I would check sites like Reddits trade swap and Steam's trade forum. Seemed like a decent amount of people snatched up extra copies to trade, so you might find someone to trade with for a cheap game or sell it outright (though be wary of that latter option).
It does go on sale quite a bit though, but that was before the price drop.

Thought about doing that, but I generally stick to buying games from direct sources like the Steam store and the likes.

Unfortunately, I don't know a single trustworthy Russian personally.

if you buy a cd version you can just take the key and add that to steam also. anywhy..the game will add to steam and you will never need the dvd again

Yeah I know, but I wouldn't trust buying a used copy for a cheap price nor am I going to go to a retail store and pay the $30. There's always a better deal online, and I haven't been able to find something better than djkorby's deal.

A guy had it in his inventory, wanted $15 for it, I ended up just trading a copy of Bastion for it ;)

So how will you know whether a game you bought from Steam has restrictions or censoring if it's the Russian version?

Impulse Driven has it for $14.99 right now.

I missed the $12.50 sale for Civ V a couple weeks ago, but I see it's down to $30 on Steam right now. Is there any other sites that you might know of (maybe I can get a discount for using you as a referral?) that could get me a key that activates on Steam?
Any help/links is appreciated.
