1) Good idea about bundle games - just because they were bundled or even given away for free at some point doesn't mean they aren't really good and a lot of users wouldn't want them (XCOM Enemy Unknown, Deus Ex HR directors, Portal 2 etc.) + it will encourage people to create more giveaways
2) on the other hand "15% value rule" might be abused with games that are given away for free right now(for example - I see a lot of giveaway for Postal, Speedball 2 HD, Pixeljunk Monsters Ultimate etc. which I'm 99% sure people got for free from playfire)

Isn't $1200 the TOTAL value of your gifts? Meaning bundled games are still counted at full value for that. But not towards your CL. I think you need to do the count manually, putting the value of all your bundled games at 15%, and leaving out those with <5 entries. THAT value gives your level.

I'ts not right, i gift 2 dlc's both which together cost 1.98 dollars and im level 1.

Come to your senses, folks. We NEED to stop punishing the people who can't afford to buy expensive games themselves (hence the GIVEAWAY site). You couldn't possibly screw everyone up harder than this :/

Yes, we're a gifting site, and the concept of levels might seem against that vision in some way. However, at the end of the day, we need to compete for users, and if someone has a gift they're looking to give away, we need to convince them SteamGifts is the place to give that game away. The contributor system offers that incentive, and I think it's in the community's best interest that it continues to exist.

What did you trade them for? Sorry for being a bit snippy but it's hard to believe you gave away almost 50 games all generated out of nothing. Somewhere money has to be spent.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone is punished and there are heeps of free to enter giveaways. It's really the opposite - there is no other giveaway-site more vivid then this one, that's something we all benefit from.

I once sold a background for $4, bought a game that was much cheaper here, sold at a profit for keys, repeat until I made over $100 of Steam wallet.
The money all came from other people. :P

No one is being punished.
In fact in this system people with small purses are rewarded more. Since the $25 CV barrier is now no longer there. Now you can continue to raise your level even when you only got money for bundle games.
PS. stop whining

And as for the priority of rule 2 vs rule 3.
Even if it's a bundle game, you still get no value if there are less then 5 entries?
I'm asking because you are saying
"Giveaways for bundle games created after the bundle date will always receive 15%"

I think that gifts from steam must not count as humble games. Humble games are only in key form. Then you create giveaway and choose gift it must give value for level like in rule 1.
Comment has been collapsed.
But, they're the same thing.
Difference between gifts and key only matter when trading. Once it's activated it's the same.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, the games are the same. But the prices they was bought are different.
If I bought for example XCOM in 2012 for 20 €. It's not my fault that GMG give it for free in 2014.

So how would you implement this check? It's already been suggested many times before, but there are far too many holes in implementation for it to work.
Comment has been collapsed.
Easy. If it is steam gift, so it is not bundle game.
When you win, you can tick on one of these: gift, key or not received. If giveaway was a gift and you get key/link, so giveaway creator receives CV for bundle game, unless you tick gift.

No. Never going to happen. You aren't the first person to suggest this far too easily exploited idea.

I suggested this back in beta. Too many people against it. It's easier to accept things as they are now.

Ok, so now is… MATH TIME!!! :D
i'm level 1+ contributor (detailed level 1.47) with 77,92$ value contribution, all gift were bundled games (that counts as 15% of the value), more than 5 entries on anyone and never gifted more than 5 copies of the same game. So:
15% * 77,92$ = 11,688$ effective contribution
Assuming that contribution needs to double each time to reach a new level:
Lv. 0-1 = X Lv. 1-2 = 2X
So….
11,688$ = X + 0.47 * 2X = 1,94X
X = 6,024$
So reaching Lv. 1 requires 6,024$ EFFECTIVE contribution, reaching Lv. 2 requires 12,048 more and so on.
Waiting for you guys to verify it ^_^

Well, just gave a quick look at your profile, but i find myself with the calculations above…
You need:
So if your contribution is around 6500 you SHOULD be lv 9 (6,024 + 12,048 +24,096 + 48,192 + 96,384 + 192,768 + 385,536 +771,072 + 1542,144 = 3078,264 for lv 9) unless you have gifted almost all non-bundled games, in which case you should be lv. 10 :D
I'll expect for some easier calculations anyway, sir XD

According to my calculations - this is the values that required right now. It can change in the future though.

assuming these cv: http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/mu7Rb/level#vcDDbFF
your 11,688$ are 47% of 25$, required for level 2

Thanks for clarifying the Lvl system. From what I can tell so far the changes sound very reasonable.

+1. I like this system better than the old one.
I too think bundled games should be somehow highlighted when creating a ga. There could even be two separate lists, one for 'standard' games and one for bundled ones... less chances of confusion about their values, in particular for new users
Comment has been collapsed.
if you giveaway 8 same bundle games for a 20$ bundled game, so you will receive 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2.7 + 2.43
I think so...
Comment has been collapsed.
Good changes, I think this formula is way better than pure CV + bundle list as in SGv1 :)
Does the 5 entries mininum restriction also applies to giveaways created prior to SGv2?
Comment has been collapsed.
I like that bundle change so much. Now maybe I gift all the bundle keys I have. Before, giving bundle keys was harming to your account if you couldn´t give non bundled games. Now you can give them away without loss.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I saw people with lvl0 account creating lvl1 giveaways. In my opinion, that has no much sense and it should be prohibited.

awesome, love that this system gives value to bundle games since i have nearly 250 duplicate copies of games from bundles i don't know what to do with! under the old system i felt like they weren't welcome here.
Comment has been collapsed.
They were always welcome. I've done giveaways for large piles of bundle games (Octocber was about 70 at once) and no one complained.
Comment has been collapsed.
wow, 70 at once sounds like a lot of work! it's easier now that you can put the key or humble link in when creating the giveaway, but still...
i know there were people who appreciated them even under the old system (i entered a lot of giveaways for games where i only wanted that one out of the bundle and didn't buy the bundle), but the way the create giveaway page and contribution value calculations worked felt like "okay we guess you can give away a couple games from bundles but try not to make a habit of it." more of the policies giving that impression than any individual people.
Comment has been collapsed.
The site also gave back the value by gifting non bundled titles.
And really, if the only reason you didn't gift stuff was because "The lack of profit I'd get from them made me feel unwelcome", admit that you just wanted profit from them, rather than gifting to be generous.
Comment has been collapsed.
i had a very long response but i'll just restate my original point instead:
i'm certainly not expecting a profit from giving things away; i'm nowhere near that bad at math. i just think it's ridiculous that games suddenly become worthless once they've been in a bundle. how can steamgifts telling you your gift is worthless not give the impression that it's not welcome? even now the 15% thing does that to a degree, but since it's a step in the right direction that's enough for me to feel like i'm not annoying people by giving away my duplicate copies.
Comment has been collapsed.
Of course they were welcome, why else would they still get tons of entries?

Hey everyone, I'll try to demystify the contributor levels you see on the site.
To get started, the levels range from 0 - 10, with level 0 being the default after registration, and level 10 being the highest level attainable. Users increase through these levels by creating giveaways that are marked received. If you mouseover your level in the navigation bar, or the level on profiles, you'll see a tooltip with the level rounded to 2 decimal places, giving you a better idea of small increments in level, and when you're about to level up.
Levels increase almost exponentially, meaning each level requires double the contributions of the previous level. For example, level 4 would require double the contributions of level 3, and level 3 would require double the contributions of level 2.
How much a giveaway increases your level is based on the gifts price, so a $20 game would add twice as much value to your level as a $10 game. There are three other factors that may influence the value of a gift...
After you give away a game 5 times (whether in the same giveaway, or in multiple giveaways), it will begin decreasing in value. The value is decreased by 10% for each additional copy. This means if you decide to give away 8 copies of a $10 game, it would add $74.39 (10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 + 8.10 + 7.29) in value towards your level. This has little effect on the majority of users, but prevents individuals from receiving a high level from gifting a large number of promotional gifts, games obtained through pricing errors, or keys from contacting game developers.
If a giveaway is invite only, or for a whitelist or Steam group, it will only add value towards your level if it receives 5 or more entries. We made this change to combat small groups of friends from attempting to cheat the contributor system, and to encourage users to expand the reach of their giveaways. The new whitelist feature offers an easy way to target a larger audience, and you can combine it with small Steam groups to receive a greater number of giveaway entries if needed.
Giveaways for bundle games created after the bundle date will always receive 15% of their value. For example, if you gift 2 copies of a $20 bundle game, you would receive $6 (3 + 3) in value towards your level. In the previous site, you could potentially receive no value for bundle games, but this way users will always receive some value for contributing to the site. Keep in mind that changes to the list of bundle games will apply retroactively, so if a bundle begins today, attempting to gift the game before it's added to the list will offer no advantage.
We hope you like the new contributor system. It's similar to the previous one in a number of ways, but addresses a few holes and possible exploits, allows all bundle games to receive some value (even if small), and it's a little easier to use and understand when creating and viewing giveaways. We'll be testing it out for now, seeing the feedback from the community, and deciding whether any adjustments or tweaks need to be developed.
