How many games do you own on Steam, but you've NEVER played? What are they? Why haven't you played them? Include any DLC. Do you find yourself wanting to just collect games or hoard them? Some we'll get to later I know because we are "stocking" up on them from the sale. But, is there a game of buying games outside of actually playing these games?

Here is my list of 7 owned Steam games that I've NEVER played and why:

Greed Corp - gift from my nephew that I've never even installed. Looks interesting though.

Aliens vs Predator - Recently won from Steamgifts and haven't played it yet. I will though.

Bioshock - Recently won from Steamgifts and haven't played it yet. I will though.

Toy Soldiers - Just bought it during Steam summer sale and haven't gotten to it yet.

Borderlands GOTY - Just bought it during Steam summer sale and haven't gotten to it yet.

Cubemen - Just bought it during Steam summer sale and haven't gotten to it yet.

Magicka DLC - Bought last month and played some of the core game. Have ALL of the DLC and played none of it yet.

My reason is I currently don't own a computer powerful enough to play a lot of the games, but I get them because I want them and they're on sale or they have bonuses I like or something.

i have 196 games i haven't played yet (or only played enough to get a sale achievement), so i'm not going to list them all. over 90% of them came from indie bundles and i am playing my way through them in the order i bought the bundles (with the stuff i bought specifically sprinkled in), giving up (at least temporarily) on the ones i don't like or get too difficult.

  • Hamilton's Great Adventure:

Got it through IGN Prime and didn't like it very much. I would've rather gifted it to someone who might have appreciated it more than me. -__-

  • King Arthur - The Role-Playing Wargame:

Got it through IGN Prime and didn't even install it yet. Will try to play it eventually.

  • Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus:

I need to finish Abe's Oddysee first. I'm more than half-way through it, I think.

  • Legend of Grimrock:

Bought with the Summer Sale, but I don't have time (and HD space) to play it now.

  • Portal 2:

Same as Legend of Grimrock.

  • Trine 1 and 2:

Same as above.

  • Time Gentlemen, Please!:

I'm finishing the fun game of Ben There, Dan That! first :) (btw, thank you so much, Kyklone!)

  • The Witcher: Enhanced Edition:

Played 2 hours of it and... ugh... found it terrible and an "adult game" gimmick. Someone in the forums convinced me to give this game a third chance, but I didn't find the time (and courage) to do it. I will eventually.

What do you mean by "adult game" gimmick? I understand that the game have uncensored scenes, boobies and stuff. Can I skip those and still enjoy the game?

just look at this scene and judge for yourself [don't worry, nothing NSFW here]

There was barely any character development between them beforehand, and all of a sudden this relationship pops up from out of the blue. [the card you collect after this scene is the turd on top of the shit-cake... oh look where they drew the black cat... how clever]

To me all this was like watching the first 10 minutes of a really bad movie that started off with a cheap tactic to grab the viewer's interest.

Besides, the battle-system is pretty stale. It involves you clicking your mouse on the target at the right moment; otherwise you don't yield any damage. That's... it... you click, then click when the cursor icon becomes a flame and that's it. The only "modifier" to this redundant gameplay is the type of attack: quick+weak (only effective with nimble targets), slow+powerful (only effective with strong targets), etc etc.

I might've been too harsh with this game, but I believe that if a game can't grab your interest in the first hour of gameplay (or less), then there's little hope of it getting any better later.

The first step is admitting it.
Yep. Totally hoard games. Collect the shit out of them. I will play them eventually (I tell myself) except maybe some indie bundle games... but for now... there are definitely many (though not a majority!) that I haven't yet played.
Also, lately, I've been more about beating games, which takes longer and requires me to focus on fewer games at a time.

  • Counter-Strike: Source Beta
    It's beta. 'Nuff said.
  • Killing Floor Mod: Defence Alliance 2
I heard there are no players, and it doesn't look interesting.

Oh yes, a lot of 'em. Here, take a look:

BioShock 2: My pc can't run it properly. Needs GFWL which when I first tried to play, gave an error and couldn't save the game.

Borderlands: Actually played this quite a while, but sadly, the fps drop drastically at some stages and can't continue playing, my graphics card sucks, and I need a new pc

Bulletstorm: Got it from a trade but never installed it, seems fun

Cogs: Bundle gift from a friend, but i'm not really interested on playing it

Crayon Physics Deluxe: Same, but I might give it a try, looks fun

Darksiders: Just bought it on this sales and I'm dying to play it, but I'll just wait until the sales finish

Dead Space 1 & 2: Haven't finished first one cause my pc died a few months ago, never reinstalled after the format

Dwarfs!?: Won here. Same as Darksiders, I'm gonna wait till sales finish to play it

Fallout 3 GOTY: Same as Darksiders, just waiting

King's Bounty Trilogy: Only played first one a bit, but I was trapped playing LoL so I decided to stop playing. I'm gonna play it though

Midnight Club II: Gift by Rockstar. I'll probably give it a try, but not soon

Overlord Raising Hell+2: Same as Dead Space, actually played quite a while but then my pc decided to die for some time

Prince of Persia: Got it free on a 2x1 second hand deal but only played for about 30 min

Dawn of War: Same as Dead Space

I think that's all

Too many to list. I buy and pray I might play but that doesn't seem to be the case. The backlog just gets bigger and bigger. I can't even seem to eliminate my wishlist, it keeps growing. I try to at least play the intro to everything but sometimes I just get swamped. IDK what to do, I need help!

Indie bundles for me.

I recommend you start with Bioshock (one of the best games ever) for single player or Borderlands (one of the best coop games ever) for multiplayer.

I won't list them, but if i don't play a game, it's due to one or more of the following factors:

-My computer doesn't meet the requirements (Primary problem)

-Not in the mood / No time (This mostly happens to games that don't let me save so i have to finish each level in one go, i hate that)

-Game i don't want to play solo (Like Magicka; I hate doing coop games with random people)

-The game refuses to run (aka technical issues. I had this with Toki Tori where no matter what i did, i had no sound, or Beep that just flat out didn't launch)

Even though i'm a hoarder, i won't buy games that i already own outside steam. With one sole exception - Mount&Blade. I still have my CD key, but it's somewhere on my defunct PC which i can't access right now. And i REALLY wanted to play The Last Days without going through all the cracking stuff.

Can't remember the site I used, but it told me I'd only played about 44% of my games (that was before the summer sale too). And I have over 300 games. Indie bundles or bundles of any kind in general are a big part of that. The other biggest reason is I go on spending sprees during massive Steam sales, and then can't around to playing everything due to work and other time restrictions.
