In your account, obviously.

I have 3 sections: beta, multiplayer and games.

I'm not very creative, I hope you have ideas

This topic is surprisingly popular between Steam users.

Talk about a necro. Anyways, I sort into: Publishers (only like 4 anyways), indie games, humble bundles, build a bundle, Steamgifts wins, and "WE ARE UNSEEN" for betas, mac versions, and civ 4 w/o expansions. I had a nonsteamgames one but it deletes each time

Just the very basic "Favorites/Now Playing/Unplayed/Completed"

Bought, Free (got somehow for free) and Others (since my brother has an account with different games, sometimes his games appear on my library but the play button is replaced with purchase), but I minimize Others

Never really bothered to organize them. Might do it someday though as it has grown quite a bit and become a little bit difficult for me to find a game.

Who resurrected this?!

My library is in grid view of installed games only, custom images ftw?

Some times I check the details and then there is
Favourites,
Commandos,
Company of Heroes,
Driving,
Free! (free from Steam - Portal 1 went free for a weekend just after I got Steam, TF2, Planetside 2, Tribes: Ascend, Realm of the Mad God),
HiB 5,
HiB 6,
Ironclads,
Tools (Betas),
Other Indie,
THQ, Games

I have two categories: "Games" and "History".
In the "Games" category i keep the games i currently play. In the "History" category there are games i don't play, betas etc.

  • action
  • arcade
  • beta and mac copies
  • Chill
  • open world
  • Strategy
  • and favorites of course

It actually wouldn't kill me to get more specific, my action folder has over 25 games in it...

All steam games in "Favourites"
All installed games with custom grids in "external games".

It is the only form you can choose between see only steam games banners or all the games (included external)
Will Steam someday let select categories in grid mode?

I have

-favorites (finished games)

-new (all the newly bought games, once in a while I remove all the games from there and start it new)

-installed

-not installed

and when I buy some bundle I make a temporary category for it

You only have completed games as favorites? What if you really love a game you haven't completed yet? ;O

well, back then the only way to distinguish between the games was by favoriting them :C and I don't want to change it now

Well, fair enough. I just moved my Indie games (about 100) and it was slow and boring. I can't imagine sorting 800+ games :P

Exit Steam, open a good text editor, search and replace for a while, restart Steam.
Steam\\userdata\\{your_user_id}\\7\\remote\\sharedconfig.vdf
Try not to feck it up. (But the cloud will (usually) save you if you do ...probably.)

(Mostly only works for mass search and replace, otherwise you need to know what the app_IDs of all your stuff are.)

That might be good to know, but I'm not sure if I dare to trix around with that. Thanks though :)

  • Backlog (games I want to play when possible)
  • Casual / Resource light (games I'm more likely to play on my wife's laptop or for some quick passtime)
  • Completed (self-explanatory)
  • Priority backlog (Games I'm playing or that are next on my list)
  • Uninteresting (games I've tried and didn't care for. Mostly bundle leftovers)
  • Unsorted / Not played yet (all the other stuff I've gotten from bundles, sales, etc. that I haven't tested yet)

I do wish steam would allow for tags instead of fixed categories. That would help a lot in organizing my library.

Övrigt (Miscalleneous) - Indie Game The Movie
Alfas/Betas/prototypes - Toki Tory 2, Double Fine prototypes, gear up and so on
Batman - Arkham series
Bioshock - Bioshock games
Grand Theft Auto - All GTA Games
Indie - All Indie Bundles and the sort
Just Cause - JC games
LEGO - All my Lego games
Max Payne - Both the first. Might move them to 'games'
Prince of Persia - The Complete pack
"smaller games" - ones that'd be XBLA-games, but aren't indie; Death Rally, Hitman Sniper Challange, Overlord and such
Games - Every major game I have that I don't have a full series of.
Star Wars - KotOR2, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight
Steamgifts - All games I've won here.
The Ship - Perfect way to hide it away.
Tom Clancy - Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell.
Valve - Only Valve's games goes here.
[PROTOTYPE] - Yeah, both games.

Not really advanced, but it works, although I might move series with 2 or less games in them (prototype, Max Payne, Batman, Bioshock) into the "games"-cathegory.

Mine's arranged by developers. Also by bundles. Currently, I have 2K Games, Bethesda, Square-Enix, Valve and THQ. I also have groups for humble bundles. Also a group for free games and demos, Finally, a group for the games that are gifted to me. The rest are uncategorized.
