Hey Ceebers. We were commenting the event in the sg chat and it appeared a question.
if strawpoll won't enforce the same number of votes for everyone, how it works? I mean, 40 people vote in a poll and only 23 people in other one. Does that mean the 17 people that didn't vote in the second poll count as voting 0 points for that song?
Or if you calculate the mean for each poll, does that mean that uploading a song the last day and having just one vote determines its final points?

My plan is to use the polls to gauge what people think of a song, When submissions are closed I'll look at all the polls, probably do a mean, with a tally of the number of votes next to it, and use that to make a list of contenders for the best song, There will be a wrap up post with a poll with (hopefully) a reasonable number of songs for a person to listen to and chose their favorite.
This will (hopefully) do away with the two major faults of the prior contests. The first contest had way too many songs in one poll, many people didn't want to listen to everything to judge the contest, so they only listened to songs that others recommended. The second contest fixed this by breaking the voting into several polls, this resulted in people losing interest, fewer people voted as time went on.
My hope is by spacing out the voting here, I'll be able to keep people's interest as they will come check for new songs, and end with a list of songs that someone new wouldn't mind listening to.
As for songs coming in on the last day being at a disadvantage? I hope that won't be the case but as always i reserve the right to add songs to the final poll regardless of how people voted. This will hopefully handle fringe cases.
As a side note, the polls will also help me chose which song to include of users the submit multiple songs. Although I will probably talk to them to let them over ride this if they want.

I will be, but I'm a perfectionist so that causes a lot of problems.
I have the drive to record a million songs, but I end up not doing it since it's such a waste of time. Took me 3 hours the first song in the last contest. Second one took me an hour because I didn't feel like wasting so much time. It also didn't turn out as well as my first one. :P
That, and there are so many people that are more talented than me - which sadly, discourages me from recording. Hopefully I get over that soon, because I think I do have a nice voice.

Welcome to the thirds installment of the SG karaoke contest, the contest where you get to hear your fellow SG members sing. I had huge hopes of trying to make this third iteration of the karaoke contest unique, the idea was: the 3rd karaoke contest: duets, where there would be a bunch of songs sung by the previous winners that you could sing along with, alas, that was too hard for me to set up. (I was surprised I couldn't get tow singers to agree on a song, go figure) I was bemoaning my troubles to a friend on steam when they told me, that they enjoyed the original two contests, so why change things? Well I still couldn't help changing it a little (more on that below) but that is how the third karaoke contest was created.

A few things to note
First off I want to talk about naming conventions When upload a song I'd like you to name it "song-artist-VOCALS" for the vocal only submission, "song - artist-SONG" if you are uploading the song you sang to be mixed with your vocals. and "song - artist-MIX" For example if you sang "Mad World" by Gary Jules, you would upload "Mad World - Gary Jules - VOCALS" After you upload your file(s) please add me on steam, so I can add you to the giveaway group and make a list of who recorded what song.
Secondly the change I mentioned above. Voting in the third contest will be handled slightly different than the first two. Each song will have a poll attached to them, and people will rate each song from 1-5 on what ever criteria they deem valid. This will hopefully eliminate the lengthy voting round of the first two contests.
Finally the contest will end around the time of the steam summer sale.(June 16, not confirmed)
