Some fallen from grace dark knight, because they're uberly cool and so charismatic, the blackguard is one hell of a kit/class in Icewindale, loved playing a death tank, slowly hacking puny orcs to pieces and watch them flee in panic under the effect of aura of despair.

Something really awfully low-level which the characters only grind for a few minutes before moving on.

And why not? After all, Terry Pratchett made a vegetarian werewolf for the Night Watch in his Discworld series.

I want to be that annoying gremlin who goes "hit and run", dies in one hit and does barely any damage. On one hand you have important things to do and don't want to waste your time, but thanks to that little bastard you can't really do anything useful 'cause every time he hits you combat mode starts. And of course, for some reason he's unbelievably hard to hit.

Slime (if it can change form to look like other creatures at will, such as in some anime), or a Dragon (powerful, long lived, awesome looking, whats not to love?)

Monster wise I'd totally either be a Dragon or a Kobold. Because you can't beat them in awesomeness.
As to my role in the world...hmm. I want to be someone the hero is forced to interact with as much as often, so probably either the shopkeeper with the best stuff or the main quest giver. (Or even the sidekick who is only along for the ride so the hero can loot tons of places for me to get rich off of) Anything to make the "hero" talk to me as much as physically possible. Simply so I can chat shite about their supposed accomplishments. Like, this self proclaimed hero comes waltzing in, demanding respect because they say they will beat the big bad. I'm having none of that till they actually do so.
I will belittle and mock their every move and decision right up until they actually do grand and worthwhile things. (Clearing rats from a cellar does not a hero make) That or they spend tons of money in my store, where I will then do exactly nothing different, except to do so in a more friendly and jovial manner so that they like my company and will spend more money on my store. Lizard monster needs himself a huge swanky mansion to live in after all. And they aren't cheap!

I'd turn the clock back 20+ years and be an orc again in Ultima Online! Hoowah Shadowclan!

A "sigh" monster who will sigh every time the hero encounters him while saying things like:
While fighting me, if the hero reaches less than 10% health, I will leave mid-fight saying "you lose, now leave me alone" or something
That's all I can think of right now. Now leave me alone :D

As already has happened: The Emporium Trading House, a cannibal trader, eating alive all other merchants and taking over all markets ;)
"Sell low, buy high, leave the hard work to us and have a nice day" © by Emporium Trading House
"Just be a hero. Don't bother with crafting. We'll sell you all, that you need, at prices, that you can barely afford" © by ETH
"And what kind of a banker would I be, if I was using up things just because they can be useful, when they can also be safely kept in bank?" (Quote from the "Purple Book" of The Founder)
"You can always depend on our free assessment services. We guarantee, that we will never undervalue any item that we posses, nor that we will ever overvalue any item that you want to sell." Emporium Trading House - the company you can trust ©.
"You shall never neglect your duty of trading and getting filthy rich, just for the mere pleasure of fighting and adventuring." (...) What did it say?!!! "Filthy rich" - what kind of a language is this? We sincerely apologize, some hacker must have broken again into our systems, it will not go unpunished. Of course we meant "trading and serving your community."
"Hey, buddy, could you please look for somebody else to kill you? I'm a traveling merchant... Yes, merchant for The Emporium Trading House... Yes, my business is to buy and sell stuff, not to kill ugly mobs, like you, unless you are a trader. Geez, can't you find an adventurer around here, willing to kill you?!!"

And yes, here I go, having just woken up (and doing my daily FFBE run) and thinking again.
So this latest bit of thought has me wondering... If you were a monster in an RPG, be it on the side of good or evil, what kind of monster would you be?
And before anyone says it, yes I know that humans are the real monsters in these stories so they don't count.
Edit- And the monster can also be a side character or something like a merchant, should you like to be. Just not a god.
