I'm not sure, but I think it was the same guy who said he didn't care about CV and was doing it for charity or something. Then, everyone on here was saying he was honorable for giving out of his heart. And now, everyone is making fun of him x_x

if anyone in here is giving games away for charity they need their brain fixed
I just make giveaways to make people happy. period.
charity is outside SG, and sadly (because it has to be and not because of my wallet damage), I must do something about it too... every week!

you don't understand ;p the guy was buying humble bundle weekly - and donating 100% to charity, so he told that it really doesn't matter - at least kids got something because of his contri farming, so he's ok with that ;p

I understand the choice, and I support it, but why do it the unfair way and those who already gave it lose CV, quite unfair if you ask me.

(I know it was to stop those who get 1000+ CV from the games, SG could easily stop them and not users like me who just used it to get over the 30.1 mile ;D)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Relax bro. They caped the CM but there is other aways. Just see some of the high CV guys and see. Things like a group giveaway with 4 units and 4 entries... this kind of stuff and others ;).

I think it's OK. I don't see anyone moaning about it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have a feeling that to get CV, you need to have at least 1 more entrant than number of copies given away so 4 copies, 5 entrants.

I know it doesn't work with a 1 copy, 1 entrant thing, because people tried that when CV was first introduced.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right. But did you understand what I'm trying to explain?

Group giveaways with 2 copies... 3 entries... x 100. Suspicious?

EDIT: And the same guy Won a lot of then..

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And not only on Steamgifts...

But then again, what are we complaining about, his reputation is bad because of his CV farming and everyone knows that so let's just move along and mind our own business.

Just do group giveaways or private giveaway with a blacklist to make sure such people won't get anything from you, that's your best bet.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, exactly, and that's why I always said they should do something about group giveaways too. Something like they did with bundled games: 20% or if that's too hash maybe 30-40% of the CV can come from group giveaways and the rest from public giveaways. Even without any obvious shenanigans a lot of group giveaways turn into some sort of game trading: if you win something you are required to give something back, so before entering you're already thinking about what you have to give back and if it's worth it, exactly as you do when you're trading.

And then why not 85% and 80% and 75% and so on. LOL :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

85% and 80% and 75% too, because this:
100 CM cost you 100 dollars (eg.) and you get 0 contribution.
100 Rome cost you 100 dollars (eg.) and you get 1000 contribution.
How many times we say the same thing: contribution system destroyed SG.
I think all noticed decrease number of giveaways.
Why? Because people here give game not because they are generous but because they want contribution.
Conclusion? This is my last GA here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think the decrease in number of giveaways has 2 causes:

  1. People are moving from public giveaways to group giveaways and if something is not done about limiting group giveaways soon we won't have any public giveaways left.

  2. Bundled games are now worthless but we still buy bundles and get a lot of games that we already have from previous bundles or that we just don't like. I think bundled games shouldn't be totally worthless. This system in which you only get 20% of the nonbundled value should be replaced with some other system in which you still get something for every giveaway that you make, I don't know, 10% of a game's value, or 5%, or maybe $1, or 50 cents, something, as little as it is it's better than nothing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What I think is bundle games should still be worth 20% but in addition to that you always get whatever they cost in the bundle. So if the game was in a $1 bundle with 4 games, then you'd get 25 cents no matter what. Obviously a lot of games would be worth like 15 cents but its still better than nothing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you can't have all group because group giveaways don't generate any points and points are needed to enter group.

but other than that yeah migrating to groups are probably part of the decrease.

yeah, the games on sale with 75-80, maybe 90% discount for limited time why must be marked? Thats too extreme, SniperOEM. NeonBiker has right. The games on simply sale is not te same with bundles, i think...and this is too much work to admins, and maybe unaccomplishable thing. Here we have chance to win free games, and add free games. Its just a chance, not required...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Too extreme? Why? Contribution = Steam price. Only 100% payment should give you contribution. Period.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

heh, yes...and who see the prices all the day (and ALL discounts) for admins, and check the constrib values for only this games? And if somebody buy one 90% discount game, wait 2 weeks (the discount expired, and the game price be normal again), and make a giveavay, how can you confirm, if he buyed this on discount? Its unaccomlishing, and nonsense.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't care how they do it.
Current contribution system =/= money spent.
Where is the sense of sharing games if you lose contribution or you get nothing?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

heh...easy to speak, understand. :)
If you have answer, what work, say it. If you have not, unnecessary cry about this. Here we can win games free, its a chance, and i think, admins have enought work with this system without same ideas.
(earlier i lose CV points, when games go to bundle lists. I adopt this, and sometimes make a bundle giveavay again. Not for CV, just i dont need some game from packs, and maybe somebody want those games for free.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There is no way to check what people spent on the game, period. You'll have to convince steam to upgrade their key/gift systems first.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Trust me, most people won't lose much contribution if any. Farmers will * about this change, but they are the reason for this change. Boo ing hoo for them. They can try buying different games, and with the bundle rules, they will earn back that CV over time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Same with bundles? So... this is why I think 90% should be "bundled" too. Bought a game from bundle or not and give it away, if it's marked, dont matter what it will be a "bundled". So, 90% should too. This is just MY opinion, isn't important anyway. Just my thoughts about it and SG, and the last one.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe he wants something like:

just tie a value modifier to the number of active giveaways within a given time period. that grabs most of the rush from heavy discounts and sales. and if you hold onto it long enough to get full value good because that spreads it out and my understanding was the swarm thing was alot of why people complained about bundles(at least pre cv)

Didn't massive bundle-games-giveaways stared along creating CV, but seeing how support had to stay 24/7 to delete them (not only because they were cheap way of getting CV, but also because of breaking TOS), cg decided to make this whole system?

Still opinion based

Key words: greater than 90% discount

Not opinion based, but rather which price was set before and with certain cough price adjustments ($33.33 to $50) this still seems debatable.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The combination of these two portions of the sentence implies that 90% discount on games that cannot be abused (say regional sale only) will probably not be added on the list. But whether it can be "abused" or not is up for debate.

I don't think the 90% discount is debatable. I'm pretty sure everything here goes by the latest in-store US base price.

You should make a post about that, explaining everything. One that would also clarify situation with:
-amazon bundles (like that one with Square Enix games worth over $100, but only for $10)
-pricing errors
-normal Steam (or other shop) -90% or even bigger sales (not sure if there were any, outside of errors, but still).

Or just write that "if support will notice community screaming about abuse, we'll make poll and leave decision in your hands".

STOP MENTIONING THE SQUARE-ENIX ONE. PLEASE. I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up. AAARGH!!!

In all seriousness, it's a slippery slope, and I think the mods want to avoid going too far. Better to stop too soon than too late. Hence, probably, the lack of speed in designating Crazy Machines a bundled giveaway.
