Enjoying the new event?
By far the worst event since I started using steam. I don't even understand anything.
First, my capacity started at 100, and I see some people got higher numbers cause of money they spent on steam, I spent a lot on steam before and got nothing. Also it says capacity can't go above 1000, but people here say they got "Your account received 2,000 Boost Meter capacity based on your previous spend on Steam."
Then, I used the boost yesterday so now my capacity is at 0. What on earth am I supposed to do now to progress? Is the only way to buy new games? I thought you get 100 extra ones per day? If it stays at 0 then what's the point, I'm not gonna spend any money just for the sake of this event that gives me a one in a million chance to win a game.
Other than that I have no idea what any of the numbers mean and how the calculation works, the numbers seem random and it's hard to undersrand how far are you from the team behind you or in front of you. Sometimes it looks like turle is second on the image, but then the places say cockatiel is second, but then the turle has an higher number listed on him, so what is even going on? All you can say is that corgi is always million miles ahead.
The quests are boring and I literally have zero interest in any of the games required for these quests (not to mention some of them cost money), the only interesting thing is the one thing that lets me pick a game from my library and play it for half an hour, but that fills the whole 100 capacity anyway so what is even the reason the quests exist?
And finally, the whole race system is absolutely pointless. Team corgi had an headstart on the first hour, which resulted in everyone joining it for an higher chance to win, and then with every hour the gap got way bigger to a point that it's completely pointless to even join any other team. If you are on team corgi, the team is so big that you don't have to do anything in order to win. If you are on any other team, there is no point in doing anything cause you have no chance to ever get first place. You also can't switch teams, so the huge gap numbers will never reset, and every race of every day will probably be exactly the same. Not that there was anything to do to begin with, as the capacity level is 0 so you can't progress at all either way.
And with the random prizes being given to second and third place as well, my guess is that you actually have an higher change to win a game if you are on second or third places (or first place that somehow isn't corgi), since there is probably a specific amount of games given to each place, and the less people on your team the higher chance for you to win said games. Even if 1st place gets 100 games and 3rd place only gets 20, team corgi probably has x20 more people than any other team so you still have a better chance to win a raffle while on third place.
This is the worst event so far, they would make way more money by doing trading cards and making profit from the selling fees, so even for them I don't see the logic behind it.
Also, didn't they promise last year to bring back the saliens? The description said the saliens will wake up again after a rest, so I was expecting them to come back this year.
On the good side: I get a free cute cockatiel badge just by joining the team, and I love cockatiels to infiniy so this is the only thing I'm gonna take from this event.
EDIT: Okay, they at least fixed the capacity bug to give the extra 100 per day. But I thought it would also reset from yesterday and give 200 total, instead it didn't reset the last 100 but just gave 100 more so it's still just 100 per day.

I agree with you, it's all so unbelievably stupid. They took away the event trading cards and replaced it with what? More desperate attempts to make us spend money? How nice.

OK, so I think I understand how you obtain boost capacity and how you fuel it. However, I have no idea why I was getting 900 tokens per boost yesterday but only 100 tokens with my single boost today... Does the number of tokens awarded scale with your maximum boost capacity for the day, meaning you're better off to save your capacity until you've got 1000 and then use all your boosts at once?
Comment has been collapsed.
My odometer had 17,552 points on it at the start of the day. I boosted, it went down by 1,000 and I got 100 tokens. So it doesn't appear to be related to odometer level.
My maximum nitro capacity today was only 100 and went down to 0 after boosting, for which I received 100 tokens. Yesterday, my max nitro capacity started much higher due to past purchases, credit for unspent lunar tokens, and sales purchases. That's why I'm wondering if tokens per boost are related to maximum nitro tank capacity...
Comment has been collapsed.
I currently have 16,577 odometer points left, but no nitro capacity. If I go to the Pit Stop, I have 51 tokens available and it says "compete in races to unlock 51 more". I think every time I've looked there, it just tells me "complete in races to unlock exactly however many tokens I currently have more".
I think I'll just let my daily boost capacity accumulate for a few days until people figure out how tokens per boost works. I don't really see a downside to that at this point...

mine says 100 more. thought it would bump up to 200 today but guess not...

Is any of you guys actually able to redeem the points from achievs and whatnot? Because I can't.
I just get the daily 100 points and that's that. Can't do anything other than boost the team in exchange for 100 tokens and wait till the next day for another 100 points. Like, what the actual fuck? Someone actually designed that atrocity and expected people to be happy? It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.

You know, it's all so broken that it's entirely possible that the capacity didn't reset for some people :D
Yeah, I'm not going to bother, either - I'll just grab the Hare emoticon and level up the badge a couple of times and that's that for me. Not like there is anything else to do, anyway.

will most likely steer away from spending more money on this sale
Hah, can't blame you. If I intended to spend a greater amount of cash on the sale, I would definitely reconsider as well.

No daily Quests for free XP or any replacement for the trading cards? :(
NOTHING TO DO? :(((
Comment has been collapsed.
Nothing? Far from it!
Our benevolent billionaire storefront has given us the chance COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE to boost for 100 whole points! (for those people the daily +100 actually worked for) So, you just need to throw away thousands of achievement points, and then you can buy the emoticon of your choice! Aren't you a lucky little tyke?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, atleast got my 100 points. At this rate I have... 0 extra levels at the end of the event. Still waiting for my 4000 initial points too.
Guess now the RNG pointgeneration stage is done, screwing over most of us and boosting 40 levels on others it's gone pure Pay2Play.

I have no idea what is going on with this event. Boost and Attack are both greyed out, I cannot click them. I have 0 on odometer and speedometer. If I go to pit stop I have negative coins, so can't do anything there either.
Is there any way to do anything w/ this event if you are not spending money or playing the specific games they want you to play for the daily missions/quests?
Comment has been collapsed.
You can get 100 free tokens per day without spending money. Aaaand... that appears to be it, spend money to participate.
(Doing tasks and achievements will fuel the 100 or whatever you got by spending money so yeah... nothing really to bother with unless you spend money to spend them).

How do i get those? I received my 100 tokens yesterday, but today i don't have any.

Thank you, but for me it doesn't work. As i said for me this is done for all of the sale, the game that i have says that i have all the achievements and even after idling for 30 minutes it still doesn't give me 100.
Comment has been collapsed.
More or less no. Furthermore, you must spend money daily or grind the games, otherwise you are still stuck at the 100 odometer limit, since the purchase "boosts" reset daily.
The idea was not bad, but as usual, they really did not think through the details.

12913 points earned
12 completed
Claim 100/12913 Points Now
You only have capacity to claim 100 points
Upgrade your Boost Meter's capacity or throw away the extra 12813
So, if I use this to refill my meager 100 boost capacity, the rest are trashed? :(

Oh damn, I didn't even notice that! Well, there goes my 30k points i had from Killing Floor 2.
I hate this event.
Edit: It looks like they removed that restriction. my points for KF2 are back.

Seems to be purchases on the steam store made after Lunar new year are counted as if they were made in this sale for the purpose of capacity and the "previous purchases bonus" text is a glitch (as you won't receive this if you used it in the Lunar new year...wow I now have 'Pig in a blanket' remorse).
My starting boost and capacity was equal to my purchase made before this sale and after Lunar new year. I like the acknowledgement of spending outside of sales but shame it's a bit meaningless in the end.

I think steam is deceiving us by using a strange wording, and the strangest use of the word "upgrade" I've ever found
The best explanation I have is that "boost capacity" means "maximum amount of boost you can spend on the WHOLE event" (not on one day).
This boost capacity has some initial value based on your previous purchase, and increases every day by 100, and also based on your purchase. It decreases when you transform it into boost meter. And that's it. It NEVER resets to its max
Let's say you start at 2000 first day, and you put your boost meter at 1500. You now have only 500 boost capacity left
On the second day, you start from your previous boost capacity 500, and you add 100, so you are now at 600. If you put your boost meter at 600, then you have now 0 boost capacity left, and on the third day, your boost capacity will be at 0 + 100 = 100.
I think the best analogy is the following; you should think at boost capacity as some kind of money, not some kind of capacity.
You are given an initial amount of money, and every day you get 100 more.
But this money is actually fake money, and you can convert it into real money using achievements: one achievement will convert one unit of fake money (boost capacity) to one unit of real money (boost meter)
And this real money (boost meter) can be used to buy things (well, actually to boost your team and get tokens, from which you will eventually get money).
The analogy is not perfect, but that's the gist of it.
So basically, as the event is two weeks long, you'll get 1400 boost capacity from it, which probably translates to something like 1400 tokens ? The other boost capacities will have to come from games you bought or for previous events.
So people like me who thought boost capacity would reset every day and bought some things on the first day to profit from it are screwed, which is clearly the desired effect.
EDIT: this is a better explanation https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/NO1V3n3

Yep, once I saw it, then I lost all interest. At least those dumb little clicker games had a snowballing bonus effect to keep people coming back (or keep running the scripts). Here, they just want money or playing a select handful of games (chiefly their own, naturally).
Comment has been collapsed.
You get points from playing games. Points get converted into tokens when boost is used. But in order to get points you need to have capacity. It really is convoluted.
You should be able to get 100 capacity a day and then on the last race cash in a recently played game with achievements (played is 30 minutes within the last ?month?) for points to fill that capacity, hit the boost button and get something like 1300 tokens (I forget if day 14 or day 13 of the sale will be the final race).
Unless the daily maximum capacity increase of 100 gets lost each day (which wouldn't surprise me with how poorly worded this whole event is).
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks! I just noticed one thing I was doing wrong - looks like you need to earn achievements and I was playing game which does not have so much easy to obtain achievements. I just changed to 12 is better than 6, did not even play, I was just in main menu for 30 minutes and I received over 20k points (i have almost all achievements unlocked). So that's stupid, honestly you do not need actually to earn any achievements, you need to play game where you earned some achievements in the past.
Still, of course I could redeem 100 tokens. Always better than nothing.
Comment has been collapsed.
Here's how I understand how it works:
Each day you get 100 "uncharged points" (worth $1). Spending $$$ in the store gives more "uncharged points"
Then in the grand prix menu you'll go to tasks, and ignore that waste of time. Instead go to achievements.
There pick any game and redeem. It'll turn "uncharged points" into "charged points". If no achievements show up idle a 100% game for 30m.
In grand prix scroll up and use BOOST to turn "charged points" into "tokens" at max. 1000 at a time (1:1 conversion)
Now, finally, in the pit stop you can spend "tokens" to buy $5 discount ($150), badge levels ($1 per level) or trash ($1 emoticon, $10 backgrounds)

I don't even see any achievements / games that should show up.
This whole event is such a mess.

First row is free/your games
Second row is new games and such
Third row should be achievs. If nothing shows up there idle a game you 100% for about 30min, it should appear and allow you to charge "capacity" (my "uncharged points")

Yeah, I see that, except that third row is, well, empty. I shall try that tomorrow, thank you.

Was a little confused at first. Regardless, tried to join Team Hare yesterday. Of course, being so close to the beginning of the sale there were multiple errors and I couldn't join anything. By the time Corgi was speeding ahead, I was able to finally pick a team. Didn't see much sense in joining hare anymore so joined the one that was pretty much guaranteed to have gifts given out the following morning. Tortoise seemed to be doing well last I checked.
There is literally no motivation to actually "play", though, and it's disappointing. You get points by playing select games and doing certain actions, or getting achievements in those games. Spend points to help your team, get free stuff (which you can't sell or trade). You can upgrade the badge though, so...yay more friend space? Buy games to increase your "capacity". Wait for the race to reset and see if you've won anything. Rinse, repeat if desired. There is a degree of interaction here, certainly, but not as much as in some past events, and if you're on corgi there's no real reason to do anything more than click "boost" once a day.
Unsure why Stardew Valley was chosen among everything else, though. I mean, it's a great game. Good for kicking back and unwinding. but as stated by someone else, it's ridiculously easy to rack up points in that game and that's without mods.
Return of the Saliens would've been nice, or literally anything more balanced. Like say...a minigame to repair any damage to the car, refuel it, or find things to help out the pit team. Or maybe even making it into an actual little racing game where one person from every team enters a race, and depending on where you place, you get points for your team. (If not other human players then maybe CPUs?) Uses skill, encourages interaction, and rewards you for your efforts. Perhaps even the more points you earn, the more you fill a gauge to get a badge. The game wouldn't have to be anything fancy. Something 2D with 8 or 16 bits, something you would play over at a friend's house during summer vacation in the 90s.
I've rambled on too long and have some things to do. In any case, I hope the winter sale event is better.

I'm going to have to quote Louis CK here, "why the fuck would anything nice ever happen?"

The summer spring cleaning event was simpler.
And it also worked... except when it cached my day 2 games from my alt and told me that my main account also done it. Then new day came and suddenly I lost the previous day's progress :D
I genuinely don't get how can a corporation of this size be so incredibly incompetent. It's on another level.
Comment has been collapsed.
I suppose we should be grateful of Valve not making games anymore if this is Valve's current impression of fun minigame...
Or then these are implemented by summer interns in a week or two...
Like watching a paint dry... It might be more interesting if there was set number of distance and team corgi boosting ahead would waste their boost and then later the other teams could focus their effort...

"Hey, this event might actually be worthwhile, I have 68,000 boost points I can collect from all the achievements I got in Orion Prelude."

I thought we would be able to choose a different team for the new race each day and get all the different team badges, but I guess I'm stuck with Corgis for the whole sale. Plus team corgi is obviously going to win every single day of the event. What's the fun in that?
Comment has been collapsed.
Boost capacity resets every day, and only add 100. If works as I think, It'll give 100 more every day, added to the prior 100. So 100 today, 200 tomorrow, etc. Money from buys doesn't add.
If you spend zero, and use the boost every day, you'll add (for the next 13 days) only 9100 tokens.
As {[13(13+1)]/2}*100 = 9100
So you can't reach the discount even if you never miss a day.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmm, in may experience 100 boost convert 100 tokens, no?
I got 100 boost capacity today, when clicking boost my 2267 tokens in the pit stop increased to 2367. And I think, I only had those 2000+ because of previous purchases, lunar sale leftovers and so on ... so in a worst case scenario throughout the whole sale one would get 1400 tokens when using the boost every day. I don't think you'd get to 9100 without spending anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
We're on the second day already. If they were to add up by 100 a day, we would have gotten 200 today, right? Only time will tell, it could be the first day counted as +0 because of those extras from previous purchases and lunar sale, but I'd still say a flat +100 a day is most likely.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well. They aren't additive, so is a scam. You have to spend a lot of money for a $5 coupon that you have to put extra effort to even get. There are better deals almost everywhere else. They purposefully keeps this in the dark to have people engaged enough time.
I think that is ok to be disappointed with a "sale" without actual discounts, and an event without actual rewards besides a couple of ugly backgrounds and emoticons.

an event without actual rewards besides a couple of ugly backgrounds and emoticons.
Actually, that's what disappoints me the most. We've had ugly backgrounds and emoticons in previous sales as well. But at least you could sell the cards if you din't like them, get some wallet money and hope for a good deal to spend that money on. The prices for those cards may have dropped with each sale, it also was getting kinda boring, but it was something at least. Now, there's nothing to sell on the market and you can't even get rid of that ugly stuff and turn it into gems when were so drunk that made the mistake of exchanging your tokens for one of them.

This is quickly becoming one of the worst events in the history of Steam. If boost capacity doesn't reset daily there is no salvaging it.
But hey, at least we get a 1:20,000,000 chance to win a free game.
