I need some help, the game just lags like crazy even at the menu, and when I start a new game it loads forever (gave up after 10min).

I've followed all the advice I could find on forums like:

  • reinstalling
  • all advanced display settings to low/off
  • frame rate capped at 30
  • deleting archives_win32 folder

My setup's an i5, 6gb RAM, video card is a low-end GT 420 but I can play every single game in my library with no problems.

Anyone else here have this problem? Would appreciate some help, thanks!

Edit: My card might be busted. Doing more tests now.
Edit2: Yep card was being an asshole. Reseating it seemed to solve the problem for now, and the game runs smoothly. Thanks for all the help :)

Your computer was built by an idiot or by someone with no gaming intentions. I assume it's a laptop.

It's a desktop, and it meets the game's requirements.

If you knew anything about Nvidia cards you would easily be able to identify that it's not a laptop.

I think the GT 420 is seriously holding you back. Just Cause 2 is not the best looking game but it's far from the worst unlike that graphics card :S

Yup it is, this setup was never meant to be a gaming PC. I'm just incredibly puzzled that i can play all the games in my library, even Skyrim, but not this.

Seems like a poorly optimized console port, and it's quite extreme to say that you have to buy a new card just to pay this $4 game. =(

Ok one thing I noticed when I used to play games on my laptop (a GT330M 1GB) is that they all ran fine, but you don't notice how bad they are until you see them play on a better PC :P Sometimes there is just one setting that you can turn down that will improve the frame rate dramatically.

Anti-aliasing eats up fps so try turning it off completely. Shaders are another fps killer, turn them down and see what happens.

If it's still not making a difference I think you're out of luck. Save up and buy a decent graphics card.

An I5 what? there are allot of I5's some are good some are low budget also the GT420 is a trash card. I am assuming you have a low end i5.

I mean I could play Jc2 on my 9800gtx+, E8400 dual core, 2gb ram max settings without lag.

A 3.2GHz i5. Well yeah your 9800 GTX is tons better than GT 420.

Just try to update your video card drivers, or if it's updated try an older version. If the video cart would be holding you back on this game, then the menu shouldn't be lagging. This should be software/firmware related. And next time I would recommend you to post these kind of questions on more game/tech guru specific forums, that would give you more help than this :)

lowered the resolution settings in game and/or desktop?

I know u said u lowered the gfx settings but sometimes all u need to do is lower resolution to get that fps boost on low end systems.
