I use WOT. It gives a big red flag when you go to the page telling you it's untrusted. Everyone should use it. Though, I didn't need WOT to tell me this is a scam. Remember, if it's too good to be true...it probably is.

The answer to your first question is easy, referral information. This assumes at least one person clicks on it, of course, which they probably won't anyway. Fun fact though, if this was using referral information to track where it was linked he'd have screwed himself because he didn't make it clickable, forcing people to paste it into the address bar and avoiding sending any of that referral information.

Second one is harder in this case, but if it was a uniquely generated link it would also be easy.
