It's very "interesting" that a lot of the people suddenly trying to give the game away while they (think they) can still get CV for it have also hosted hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of remarkably exclusive group giveaways with <10 entrants.

Actually I want to address that there are people who know they will eventually get 0 CV for it (myself included for the previous LiS giveaways), for example:
The cv will eventually drop to zero, but I'm using this last chance to give it away, since it's a good game overall!
Indeed this is the last chance you can clear out your old LiS keys before they are technically removed from the giveaway selection list. Meanwhile if you activate a key you can have the game bind to your account when not installed, otherwise if you get the Free on Demand package you won't be able to keep it in your library and get "+1" game count (it shows in your library if you have the DLCs, but you still don't get the game count).
In addition, a good portion of those created this have lots of public giveaways created too.

It was just about time, every single developer should learn that the first episode of an episodic game should be free.
That way, they could even attract more customers to buy the rest, so it's a win-win situation for both parties.

If that were true then every game which has a demo should see increased sales.
Sadly, as devs will tell you, and people who actually play demos as well, as moi, that isn't true.
Specifically on LIS, all the people I've talked to who loved the game, thought the first episode alone didn't do a good enough job of showing the real quality of the game.
Conversely, a lot of recent TTG games have very strong openers and become comparatively less interesting in the midsection.

I go to the website, it says Episode 1 is free, and it asks me to select my platform. When I click Steam it just sends me to the Steam store page where it's 4.99...

Great episode, I already have it. It's a shame episodes 2-5 don't come separate. The pack is way too expensive and I would like to continue the story slowly, getting a new episode when I can.

This seems to work as it launches the installation, and makes the game appear on the store as owned, but if you don't install it the game is not in the library. What does it mean? Let's say I don't want to install it now but in a month, in order to do that should I go in a month to the store page to install it? Will it still be mine?

Since it's always going to be free from now on, you can install it from the store page whenever you want. The only way to make it stay in your library is to have a key for episode 1, get the season pass (ep 2-5) or buy the compete thing.

According to the developer, the game will become free at 6pm BST today, when Valve get into their offices on the West Coast of America...
This could be the reason why the game will disappear from you library when you uninstall the game if you had installed it via steamdb. The cards won't drop either before that time, I could be wrong, but adding the game right now to your library doesn't show any card drops remaining.

why would people get angry if Episode 1 of an episodic game which released like 2 - 3 years ago gets given away for free to try and draw in new buyers.. That's just stupid in all honesty.

You're right. I played for 2 hours today and got no card drops. But the game is really good (duh, but I probably would've never know that if it stayed not free, as I rarely play that kind of games)
