Do any of these 'speed your pc' programs actually do anything worthwhile? I've seen them more and more recently

Nope. There are tweaks that actually help, especially on low-end hardware, but all of these you can do yourself. And some of the bigger ones are included in driver suites that comes with your hardware (like how Samsung Magician can enable/disable a few features to either help to keep your SSD alive a bit longer or to improve its read/write speed and system boot time after sleep a bit).

In general no, if you've trashed you pc with bloatware it might help identify/disable it but it could just as easily make it worse.

WinZip®21 Standard Edition
Version 21 Standard License, 3 PCs
MSRP: $29.95

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously…
WinZip in paid format in 2017…

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh boy, Humble really wants us to use the store and pay for the Monthly more, don't they? =D

The BTA is also funny, by the way. A software that does pretty much the same the freeware Ultimate Windows Tweaker does, and another one that automatically downloads and installs drivers for you… a feature Windows 10 has natively since release.

The VPN is a nice one though. I am pretty sure it is the one people will mostly buy this bundle for.
And certainly not for goddamn WinZip.

And Windows 8.x, 7, maybe even Vista, wouldn't known... Also most Ubuntu-based linux distro's.

That one is a Windows-only software, this is why I didn't want to include the other OSs that did this for waaaaaaaaaaay longer.

I mean, there are paid software, even some utility software that can be worth the money (for example, I still couldn't find a sync/backup software on the freeware scene that satisfies my needs, and I look at them almost every 3-4 months to see if they improved enough), but this collection is… not really strong in that department. Windows tweaking, defragmenting, or driver updates are not something one needs to pay for. The paid Revo uninstaller and the recovery tool may have some uses even for home users, but that is a stretch too (I mean, I am perfectly fine with IObit Uninstaller and Recuva, and they are freeware).

Honestly, I stopped using defragmenters once I switched to SSD. And as for compression... well... 7zip. There are others, of course but... I mean... with all respect to WinZIP and WinRAR from the bygone era... why pay for... I mean... outside of corporate world, and I'm sure no company will get their compression tools in a humble bundle.

Even my company switched to 7Zip years ago.
Defrag is still important since data storage is magnetic mostly for capacity and lifespan. I have one SSD and four HDDs, so defrag is still an important thing for me.

I only have 2 HDD's but they don't really need a lot of defrag as they're mostly empty these days. But yes, I agree.

tl,dr; Humble should try to raise the quality, even if that means reducing the amount of bundles. We already have Gala and similar sites to "shitbundle" everyday.

The last software bundle was better then this. While I do like these kind of bundles depending on what is in them.Where is the Winrar and other useful programs like CPUID Monitoring.

Though I shall grab this for the uninstaller that will come in handy.

WinRAR is like WinZip: nobody in their right mind should pay for them. Nor, to be frank, use them. 7-Zip and PeaZip can do the same for free and with no pop-up window begging you to pay for it. And they have been doing this for at least half a decade.

The hate is strong in this one.

You have been triggered over the mere mention of WinRAR bravo sir bravo!

Welcome to the real world where some people do not like the same thing.Still does not change my opinion I still like using WinrRAR and still want it in one of these bundles.

Also do not forget to tell this person how terrible it is..

Not hate, sanity. Why would you pay 20-40 dollars for a software that does less than its completely free competition?
WinRAR is used because people are used to it and never bothered to look past it. It is just an outdated, obsolete product of laziness by habit.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Who said I would pay that much.?You assume too much and over think things.Outdated? It is a compression software how advanced can it be?
I like WinRAR for my reasons and if others want 7zip or Winzip or what ever I could care less.As I stated before we get it you do not like it.You do not need to keep pointing out reasons why.Again this still does not change my mind that I would like it in a bundle with other software.

The same with games people want crap games in bundles I would not want. That is just how things work just because one person finds it crap does not mean it is crap for all.

Outdated? It is a compression software how advanced can it be?

It took WinRAR years to finally implement LZMA2 support. The method that, by then, was the first or second most common compression algorithm. And which was under the GNU licence and every software that were not maintained by a bunch of lazy fucks relying on companies forking over the license fees has integrated into their solutions. Heck, it STILL doesn't know what a PAQ is, and that one is 15 years old…

Additionally: people forgot that "you" can be a plural word used to describe a nondescript general audience? This is the fifth time this year and the second time on this forum I run into this.

You make valid points.I never was pushing the software as being the best and so on.It does what I need it to do and I like using it and it does the things I need. Why should I stop using something I like just because it does not have features you want or like or use?I never tried convincing anybody of using or buying it.I simply said I would like it to be in a software bundle.

Also I am sorry that my education was not top notch ....so thank you for being most likely the 1millionth person to point out those shortcomings.I shall go back to the rock I crawled under where I belong.

I use Winrar for simple compression I do not need the best and all kinds of fancy features if people need that there are better choices.I hate it when people blast someone choice of a program just because something better exist.
When in fact it does what I need but according to you I should just avoid it based on your idea of what is better and you some how know my needs and that this program does not fill them.

About as bad as those that say why use Idlemaster it is not updated anymore and the other one is better. It did what I wanted to do so why change just because it is better. My god next year there will be a better model of my car I better race out and get it before I am left with a worse product.

Sadly this effects U.S. troops over sea's also but Netflix has been working on allowing access from bases but you are still SOL if you get your net from another source other then from a base. This crack down really is due to pressure from the big movie studio's and so on.If you want to blame anyone blame them.

http://www.smh.com.au/business/media-and-marketing/hollywood-studios-call-on-netflix-to-maintain-vpn-crackdown-20160125-gmdtey.html

I get why they do it but I have to think to myself is it really that big a threat?I mean they are still collecting income from those who subscribe and those who have not Netflix available where they live so VPN allows them to get it.

Why can't they put good softwares like MS Office 2016, Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection in $1 tier so people will actually buy the bundle

Permalink

Because stuff like that sells just fine without a sale.

They only throw us stuff that no one purchases unless it's in a bundle.
