Now this is potentially some big news.

Remember at the start of the year when Steam announced new curencies on Dev Day?.

Seems like it's finally coming on September 16 for some countries. Just got an email about it a few hours ago. FYI Steam is looking to support the Australian dollar, the Canadian dollar, the Indonesian rupiah, the Japanese yen, the Malaysian ringgit, the Mexican peso, the New Zealand dollar, the Norwegian krone, the Philippine peso, the Singapore dollar, the South Korean Won, the Turkish Lira, the Thai baht, and the Ukrainian hryvnia (in the future). Not all the countries will have their currencies changed on Sept 16, but many will.

Local currency conversion dates

So, lower prices or terrible conversion rate? Guess it depends on your country. The retailers in my country seems to price their products at roughly the same price as Steam, with disc versions 2 to 3 dollars more expensive.

Email I got

Edit: Wow some stuff are actually cheaper now for me. L4D2 and Deus Ex are ONLY $5 SGD ($4 USD) for me now!

Edit 2: Canadian Dollar and Norwegian Krone to be added on 8 Oct. Stay tuned for price changes!

Hungarian Forint should be added, but with a conversion rate of 1$ = 1 HUF. I would buy ALL games on my wishlist :D (1$ = 230-240 HUF now)

Meh. Another opportunity for price gouging and exchange rate skullduggery. Hard to imagine any other outcome...

Indeed, I see no reason they would go through all the trouble unless it meant them getting more money.

For me Support is good. But yea,PLN are needed here in Poland...paying around 1/4 of my money from work month for 1 game is not what i want...

I have the impression that many people think this is about currencies. It is not. It is about setting prices that are considered "appropriate" for a certain country by Valve and the publishers. So it's not about what currency you pay with, it's about what Valve and the publishers think of your region.

Frankly, considering Europe is already covered, I doubt that any of the mentioned regions will end up paying more than the current USD prices.

Miedzianek interpreted "buying games from RU" as using VPN to buy stuff directly from the store with Russian prices. I think beziko actually meant just trading with Russians.

This is going to handicap a lot of people of using their steam wallet, because they will probably won't change their money currently in the wallet, but only the steam store prices. I'm already unable to use my steam wallet, because since I moved to the UK, everything in the store changed to GBP, while my steam wallet currency remained in Euros, and I can't buy anything. The system can't exchange the money when making purchases (which is funny, because it exchanged the money from Pounds to Euros when I topped up my steam wallet).

Well they did say that they're going to convert steam wallet funds in the email.
