It was humble monthly time about a half hour ago, so I went to look at my games as I do every month . . . but instead of the “view your subscription” link I saw “subscribe for $12” — WHAT?!? Turns out it’s been a year since I had switched to an annual subscription and instead of rebilling me as expected, my subscription was canceled yesterday (yes, the last chance to subscribe day) and they didn’t warn me that would happen or tell me that it had.

I put in a ticket to see if they can un-cancel my subscription, rebill me, and let me get the October games (Orwell and Scanner Sombre are both on my wishlist and a couple of the others look interesting). Did this happen to anyone else? According to my history I switched from monthly subscription to annual on September 30 last year which I think was the day they added that option. Anyone else here been subscribed to annual for a year? Did they cancel yours too?

Update: heard back from humble fairly soon Friday saying if I signed up again they could adjust it (or maybe charge me separately for October -- it wasn't particularly clear), so I signed up for a new annual plan last night and added that to my support ticket. Also asked if I should expect this sort of thing again in another year or if this was some sort of system error that's been fixed. Currently I have access to the November early unlock but not October yet. I'm hoping later today they'll do whatever they need to do to close the gap and make me eligible for October.

Update 2: after re-subscribing and telling humble I resubscribed, they adjusted my new subscription to start in time for the October bundle. They still haven't answered me about why my subscription got canceled but took care of the rest of it for me so good enough I guess. Hopefully I won't have to do this again in another year!

Ah, that's unfortunate but consider it from the other perspective... imagine if you'd subscribed to something for 1 year and they just renewed it automatically without telling you. If it was something you JUST wanted one year of then you'd probably have a problem with that. Using a general "you" for people in general, not you in particular.

that's true -- there definitely should have been a notification either way. looking back through my email they sent receipts every time my monthly subscription rebilled.

Wait, I'm confused. You say that it's been a year since you got the annual subscription, so isn't it natural that your subscription would end and you would need to renew it?

you expected an annual plan to automatically end after a year? “annual plan” normally means that it keeps going until you cancel. that’s what happens if you subscribe to pay $12/month instead of $132/year (or at least that's how it was working a year ago when i switched). seems everyone agrees there should be an email.

the monthly subscription automatically renewed and they don’t say anything about annual not doing that, so that’s what i expected. the word “annual” also means happens every year. regardless of whether it should have renewed there should be a clear, separate notification warning you that your subscription is about to rebill or end right around the time the last paid-for bundle arrives so you can either cancel to avoid a $132 charge or renew to avoid missing games.

i was on the annual subscription to monthly (pay $132 annually which works out to $11/bundle instead of $12) so i would have had to be aware that i should have been billed last friday and notice a missing email. if it was every month i might have noticed, but i didn’t think i had to track the date myself.

That's mean...The "good" way would have been a notification akin to "Your annual subscription is coming to an end" or something...

it says "Recurring 12-month plan" so I would also have thought that it will be extended for another year if you don't cancel it.

i'm hoping since this is the first time they should have rebilled annual plans it was just an error and they'll fix it. i probably wasn't going to play any of these in the next week anyway, so if takes them 3 days to address my ticket but they do un-cancel me that's just an inconvenience. in the meantime i am actually using my steamgifts points on orwell and scanner sombre. just in case.

they said they'd fix it but their system is “finicky” in that i would need to sign up again. it's been about 13 hours since i signed up and let them know i did that step; hoping to hear more soon.
