Possums do not often carry rabies due to their lower body temperature. Furthermore, they are excellent at destroying ticks and other pests.

For example, recently, I found out you can't hum if you hold your nose closed.
OMFG its true lol :D My life was a lie
This is something I just found but I think its interesting; apparently Beethoven could still hear (partly) after going deaf thanks to the bone conduction. Not exactly like today, but here is what I found.
Beethoven's housekeepers remembered that, as his hearing got worse, he would sit at the piano, put a pencil in his mouth, touching the other end of it to the soundboard of the instrument, to feel the vibration of the note.
I always thought he just used his imagination, but looks like it wasn't completely true :()

The mushroom that Super Mario constantly eats in the game is called fly agaric in real life. When you eat this mushroom, you experience a process called micropsia, in this process you start to see objects as smaller than they are, and this makes you feel like you are bigger than the objects around you.

I did not like encyclopedias since childhood. Not because I was not interested in reading what they were writing there, but because I quickly forgot these curious facts. It made me sad and I was sorry for the time spent.
But at all Olympiads we were given these encyclopedias for prizes every time! But I wanted something else so much! 😂
And for my birthday my parents also sometimes bought me encyclopedias!...
So here is such a funny fact - by the end of school I had accumulated 2 large bookshelves with only encyclopedias and dictionaries 😄

Sloths don't fart.
They absorb the gases, it then travels through the bloodstream until it reaches their lungs to be exhaled.

(Maybe not so) Fun Fact: The Economics Nobel doesn't exist. It's a "fake" prize that is created after the director of the Sweed Bank blackmailed some directors of the Nobel Foundation and it's to this day not recognized by the Nobel family. It's delivered in the same day and in the same cerimony of the real Nobel's tough.

Most foods you can buy in a grocery store today didn't exist 500 years ago, let alone 2000+ years ago, at least not in their currently edible form. Not just processed foods, but even the fruits and vegetables aisles. Apples and bananas were almost inedible without significant cooking (they were basically wood and seeds with a hint of starch). Broccoli, cabbage, corn, wheat, etc were all derived from different grasses (or in some cases the same grass 5 different times). The most recognizable foods would be meat, figs, dates, certain nuts (mostly the ones we don't eat today), and similar. A lot of food used to be inedible without cooking first.
For Americans: there were 8 presidents before George Washington; the first was John Hanson, whom history has largely forgotten. The form of government changed after these 8, so we don't bother to teach or count them anymore.
For history and medical buffs: There once was a man named Dr. Robert Liston, known as one of the world's finest surgeons, who could amputate someone's arm in a matter in minutes (speed was valued for such operations before antibiotics and good pain killers). He earned a world record, not for this speed, but rather for killing the most number of people in a single operation. He operated on 1 person, amputating his leg, accidentally severed a few fingers from one of his assistants, and a man in the crowd died of shock during the operation after the doctor cut his coat (believing himself to be mortally wounded). The bone saw he used that day was contaminated (again, no antibiotics). The operation had a 300% mortality rate. Despite this, he had among the lowest mortality rates of any surgeon at the time (roughly 10% average), and was highly revered for his skill.
And one to make it not so PG in here: the vibrating dildo was created as a medical device that took up a large part of a room. It helped a condition known colloquially as "hysteria", which was frequently blamed for any number of things throughout history, including unexplained mass deaths, murders, fires, etc. Originally it took several people to operate.

Enjoying the different fun facts in this thread! Here's one I recently found out about:
Between 1912 and 1948, the Olympic Games awarded medals in the arts e.g. painting, music, sculpture and architecture however the competitions were scrapped after a heated debate in the post-war years.

Have you ever broken Deadline (the latest time or date by which something should be completed). If it were a deadline in the first the meaning of this word, it would be really deadly.
Its original sense, during the American Civil War (1861-65), was a line drawn around a camp beyond which prisoners were liable to be shot.

If there's one thing I really like, it's learning fun random facts that I'll probably forget about in a few days.
I want some more cool people on my whitelist. So to get whitelisted, all you have to do is share a fun fact! Doesn't matter if it's a random fun fact about an animal or some weird science fact, or even if it's not so fun!
For example, recently, I found out you can't hum if you hold your nose closed.
I'm also having a whitelist-only giveaway here. (Level 0 and unfortunately regional restricted. Steam keys should have 0 restrictions on them >:()ENDED!https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/Olo99/
Edit: Whew! I was trying to reply to all the comments but there's so many! I don't wanna endlessly bump my own thread with all my comments. Thanks for wanting to be a part of my whitelist, guys. Altho I (probably) won't respond to your comment, I'm still whitelisting, I promise!
