Speedrunning isn't for me
Potato at top speeds

Not really - I'm more the explore everything type.
In good old thief I probably could play the first level out of my mind very fast^^

Maybe two exceptions which come to my Mind the Stanley Parable and in Dishonored 'mini game' - be faster than the train.

Thief actually has individual level leaderboards, so you can compete in that one level if you wanted to. Dishonored speedruns look really cool to me :]

The good old one^^ https://store.steampowered.com/app/211600/Thief_Gold/
Kinda glad that there is still a good working community, HD and modern patches to the engine.

I did the speedrun achievement for Stanley Parable. I considered doing the one for Back to Bed, but it's 45 minutes and given how many times Stanley Parable took me I feel like it'd take way too long. After the first time or two it just gets repetitive which bores me. I feel like speedrunning any but the shortest games takes some dedication, which I lack.

Yeah I got that achievement and I wasn't compelled to beat the game any faster than they asked for. Back to Bed world records are below 20 minutes, maybe things changed since you last looked?

Maybe worth a try then. I'm not really the competitive sort though.

There's no shame in borrowing techniques from others! Good luck if you take another stab at it

I enjoyed watching a run of Jedi Knight a little while ago, especially how they abused momentum to jump huge gaps

I do not do any speedruns myself because I would rather explore everything.
But I like to watch "Games Done Quick" on Twitch and find it fascinating what some people can do.

Only speedrun I've ever done was Resident Evil HD Remaster. I tried it just for the achievement (about finishing the game in x amount of hours), but in reality I had tons of fun running the game. In fact, I had about three or four playthroughs to go if I wanted all the achievements, including invisible enemy mode, and I ended up speedrunning all of them. I stopped after that, since running just for the sake of getting a better time isn't incentive enough for me, but I had more fun than I ever thought I personally could have speedrunning. In the end, playing the game normally seemed like a waste of time to me lol, since you literally don't need any item other than those you get while running to finish the game. I did watch a full speedrun on youtube before attempting it myself, and that was super duper helpful.

I usually tend to try as many games as possible, so I never master that one single game to the level I could speedrun it.
Btw, have you changed your stream schedule? I used to stumble by chance on your lives very often and now it's been a while...

My backlog definitely suffers from my focus on speedrunning, that's for sure lol

I haven't been streaming as much lately and it's been later in the day, my schedule has been all over the place. I think stuff will settle down and everything will become more regular soon hopefully :]

I've actively tried to get a competitive time on levels in Poi, in some of them I got into the top 100 and I think I even got in the top 20 on one which I was pretty proud of. I think it's challenging and very rewarding when you get a time you're proud of, but I just don't have the patience or attention span to put any serious commitment into it.

However it's still cool watching you get times I wouldn't ever have the patience to get lol. I've just not been watching anything right now because Super Lucky's Tale is near the top of my must play list and I don't want to spoil anything :P

Congrats on your achievements! What level did you get top 20?

You haveve great taste, or should I say, we have very similar interests. Poi was a ton of fun and I have been planning on going back with speed in mind, maybe sooner now that you've reminded me. And thanks for the supportive words!

Speed runs are too stressful for me, plus I don't have the skill. They are nonetheless impressive.

Never, because basically I got reflexes of potato. Besides when i enjoy game i tend to spend a lot of time in there even on unnecessary activities, exploring, collectables et cetera.

Accelerated back hopping in HL2 was fun. I miss playing that game so much that I had broken it in like 50 different ways...

No legit speedrunning, though. Just messing around on occasion, maybe if there's a buggy game then sussing out how to skip levels completely, that kinda thing.

i rushed a few games when they started to get boring or stupid, but i can't speedrun anything.
i actually despise it. seeing people on steamgifts finish games like fallout 4 or witcher 3 in 50 hours kills me. 😢🤦‍♀️

the only exception for speedruns are for events like GDQ, because it's fun to see how they exploit glitches in known games.

I only tried it in the Mirror's Edge Time Trials and Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

In Mirror's Edge, I quickly realized that I suck at speedrunning; I didn't have a clue as to the fastest way through the maps, and speedrunning and timetrials couldn't hold my interest - I need a story or campaign or something to keep me going.

In Catalyst, I quickly realized that the people at the top of the leaderboards all cheat.

I used to speedrun some 20 years ago, mostly on games with end screen timers like Resident Evil 1 and 2. I did it just because I didn't own many games and there was nothing better to do, and I don't remember or record my times but it was all on my 10 year old skills so I'm sure I was terrible at it.

As years went by, I dropped that as I got more stuff to play and I became a completionist, so I usually grind excessively and explore extensively. I feel that skipping stuff on purpose required to speedrun most games is a real pain.

Though recently my completionist side got the best of me when it comes to games that have timed achievements and challenges, so every now and then I go for them. Recently I got 1h32 any % in Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, albeit it was on segments and the total time I spent was about 5 hours. But I'm aware that rarely a game's speedrun achievement requirement is anywhere near the time a dedicated player could get, and since I just stop trying when I reach those I guess I'm no more than a beginner at those.

I agree. I usually don't have too much time that I can/want to dedicate to gaming, so when I actually play, I like to enjoy it as much as possible - and speedrunning is not that enjoyable for me. :p
However, I have watched a couple of speedruns and bugruns of games that I like, and it's impressive to see what some people achieved.

Just Cause 2. Played the hardcore difficulty as fast as possible to get all difficulty achievement in one go(cause beat it, you get 1 Hardcore + 2 bonus Hard, Normal difficulty achievement), so I can take leisure completing the rest of the achievement in the easiest mode.

Nevertheless, it still took me 51 hours(37 hours in-game save) to beat it. In a better views, it makes me quickly adapting to the game mechanics even though I've never played that kind of game before(JC2 was my first full action-packed games). and after some time, it even makes me think that the Hardcore difficulty wasn't that hard actually. Though, thanks to that, it helps me a lot playing The Surge, as I've been accustomed to difficult situations when people said that the game was hard and dark souls-like.

Currently I speedrunning Fairy Fencer F, though I say that, I tend to let it run AFK in the main town just to listen the soundtrack, which is great, and good for relaxing mood & situations. (Ugh, I really want to beat that game, so I can read guides and enjoy every nook & cranny of it in the second playthrough so on but cannot help listen the soundtrack then get out of in front PC and do other activities, lel)

Competitive is not for me, but I usually have fun with speedrun achievements in puzzle/platform games like in Braid of which I've done a 100% Let's Play. If you want here you can see the video of the speedrun with commentary in Polish ;)
