So, I just read this article http://uk.games.ign.com/articles/122/1223357p1.html and I asked myself if I became blunt or more aggressive after playing games like CoD etc. and I think that the politicans aren't completely wrong. But what do you think?
Are the games guilty to train murderers or is it our society?

Edit:
Well for me it is much more satisfying to kill guards in Revelations ( when I'm angry ) than killing online other guys in games like MW3 or BF3. I mainly play those games together with some friends.

By the way: There are rumours that Black Ops 2 will be announced on May 2nd! :D

I think that it's an interesting subject that's being ruined by the standard black or white thinking. It might possibly be that playing games does affect people who are mentally unstable, and these people would do better not playing games. I'm sure that gaming can have an effect on the mind, because when I played UT2003 before sleep (which I did for a period of time) I used to have paranoid dreams which continued the mental state of the game (keep looking around for others, move quickly and unpredictably...). Can this have an effect on someone's mental state in the long run? We'll probably never be able to tell, because we'll leave the discussion at the superficial level.

As long as people play age appropriate games for healthy amount of time... I think games are okay.

That's never going to happen, so do you think that when people play very long game sessions that can cause (or make worth) a mental problem?

No, its just a way to increase price/taxes on video games.

Of course serial killers become what they are because of video games. This explains the complete lack of serial killers before there were video games.

For me video games don't create a serial killer. It all depends on the person. I have seen people fighting because of losing a game, on the other hand I have seen people that laugh when they lose and give congrats to the person who beat them. Yeah some may say video games are violent but it's all in us. For instance I may shoot people in gta san andreas for fun, but I don't and won't do it in real and just thinking about it disgusts me... So like I said it depends only on the person.

Of course video games influence our behavior, look at me for example. I play to Counter-Strike for almost 6 years, and now, i see every people in the street as a potential ennemy who retains a hostage. Another example, my best friend, he killed a man with a crowbar after playing Half-Life. He stole a train after playing Train Simulator. He killed 3 people on a cruise ship after playing The Ship.
Yesterday was his birthday, i offered him Flight Simulator X!

I think this article about a very recent mass-murderer is appropriate., or the condensed version . Though the second kind of skips over the fact he mentions that, without Call Of Duty, he wouldn't have been able to do it at all.

He said without it he could not have done it, he used it as a sort of training tool. But at the same time he said the games had nothing to do with why he did it, it was simply a training tool. However I am sure the media spins this like crazy.

I'm sure it does, but it's not like the article was an attack on games itself. The first was more of a mere mention of it, and the later left it out completely. I'd simply meant that games did play some role in the attack. A role that could have easily been replaced by actually using the gun.

A good way to look at it is that games might be able to teach you how to aim, but they can't teach you how to pull the trigger on another person.

Now and then there "articles" like this one pops up. It only makes me smile. Games can be "blamed" only as a trigger. If it is not a game, then a movie, drugs, parents, etc. If someone wants to go on a killing spree he doesn't need to play games to do that.

If video games are able to influence serial killers to kill,
then we should already have tons of farmers worldwide because of facebook.

You know when games make you more aggresive? When youre totaly sucked into one cool game then some1 comes up and wants you to do something and you should do this right now coz youre not doing anything right? just some silly pc games you can leave that... Very few ppl realise that games are good hobby, and even if youre not into them, respect other ppl and their choices.

It's bullshit. They did several studies that prove that wrong. Serial killers get that way because they're fucked in the head to begin with, and most likely because their parents are worthless pieces of shit that didn't raise them right or just didn't give a fuck
