I've never played a game like the ones in the Sekai Project bundle, and I'm trying to decide if I should buy it for myself. Who out there can convince me one way or the other?
Thanks for all the feedback, and thanks for helping me level up! Most of you are awesome.

If you like slice of life anime and manga, buy it. If not, save your money and buy something else.

If you like VNs even a little, go for it. The bundle has some great games for an awesome price.

A couple of the games have demos on steam I think. You could try it to see if it's something you'd enjoy. Or just buy tier 1 and try those like others have said. I think fault from tier 1 also has a demo on steam.

Also thanks for the train. :)

I was directed to this thread from another one. There's some good advice in here, looks like. I'm interested in a couple things from the bundle, but a bit wary as well, so I think we're in vaguely similar positions. But, yeah. Thanks for the train!

I would definitely give this bundle a chance even T1. Fault series and Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal- are pretty good on the novel side. Most of the other stuff is just fanservice. ;) The BTA tier has Narcissu(which has a free version in steam which you should read). Idol michuru is joke series since people of the VN department love to make spinoff the so called best girl! (My words since I do love Michuru) The original series is from Garisa series and is worth the read when you can afford it. From T3, I would recommend WEE series and Root Letter. Sun rider is cool if you like tactics. Most of the time you get fan service game because lets be honest, sex sells. That's a lot of reason why many people such as I even own the Sakura Series because let's be honest, the writing is bad in those games. A cheap kenetic novel I recommended to people is Planetarian: reverie of a little planet. It's always on sale during anime/big sales and is like $3.

Now you maybe wondering, what's the difference between a kenetic novel and a visual novel? For most part they are the same but a visual novel can have multiple endings while a kenetic novel is linear per say. Now I won't get into the argument about SP and how they localize stuff but I am grateful to them. I have brought all the bundles so far from them except for groupee's doujin1 bundle. By showing support, I hope that they will continue to localize visual novel so that we can read them in English. As you can see from my profile I have a lot of visual novel bought. Some may have little to no play time but that is because I already played them from sources but purchase them legally to support the devs.

Thank you for this reply. Planetarian seems to fit most of what I'm looking for. I do prefer agency in games so I'd consider kinetic novels less preferable than visual novels, but it's not like I can't bear to have my entertainment without interacting with it. I do watch TV and movies and read books and comics, after all.

I do understand that sex sells, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't susceptible to it myself. But I have no interest in playing any games where it's the primary selling point, and I'm pretty damn wary of anything that includes obvious fan service whatsoever. It can be jarring, and really embarrassing if you're not prepared for it to come up. I once got copies of The Herbalist for myself and a couple younger family members (Christmas gifts) without researching properly. I thought the premise sounded pretty cool, mixing potions and whatnot. Then my SO installed it and played it (we have library sharing set up) before I did, thinking the same thing, and ran into a very nonsensical nude scene that caught her completely off-guard... It was not fun explaining that one. I can only hope my relatives never see it. :S

Really depends on if you like reading a good story or not.

The World End Economica vns are a pretty good read and they are written by Isuna Hasekura who is the person responsible for Spice & Wolf.

Root Double, made by Nakazawa Takumi, is also a safe bet if you like if you like a thrilling story.

If you've never played visual novels before then I suggest you maybe try one or two of the free ones on Steam to see if it's up your alley before you pay money for something you may end up not liking. I mean, it's just a dollar if you go for tier 1 but still, there are plenty of free ones. Here are a couple of options.

Mystic Destinies Serendipity of Aeons
Seduce Me Otome
Cinderella Phenomenon
Magical Otoge Ciel
Red String of Fate

I wouldn't call Mystic Destinies free...you can install the prologue and play that for free, but you have to pay for each route. Those are also all indie English otome games, which can be quite a bit different from the (mostly) big-budget Japanese galge in this bundle. I'm not saying these are bad games, just that liking them won't necessarily be indicative of whether you'll like the stuff in the bundle.

Some other free VNs on Steam (probably) worth trying out:

Either way, if someone has never played a VN before then it's worth checking out at least one that doesn't involve having to pay for it and gives an idea about what VNs are and how they're played. Those were just the first ones I came across when skimming through Steam and it's fairly easy to find more going from there. Personally, I never really played any of the free ones so far cause I still have a ton of others to go through but I'm more of a horror/mystery person and the affordable selection of good ones of those is rather slim on Steam.

Only if you're a twelve year old girl or a weeb alive in a basement solely clinging to life by licking your own pre-ejaculate you gather from looking at 2D little girls with bug eyes.

I think you come off as a respectable person and dont fit in these categories so my advice is no
