I'd say, probably, to you 'why are you wasting your money?'
Well, it's your money to begin with, by no means, even when I were your closest friend, I could tell what to do with your money. Your choice.
But unlike somebody has said in this topic, I'm not going to leech anyone. I have my full time job, I can afford games myself even the most expensive ones / bundles, and I have my pride. There's no reason to leech.

My friends never complain about my generosity, because they are the recipients a good amount of the time.

I know, every time I enter a giveaway I just think of what a loser the person must be to make one. I get a good laugh AND a free game, just perfect!

You seem to have a good attitude about it! Thanks for your giveaways, and cheers on being a good friend. Pretty sure most of my friends would get a big ? about the little that I have given away as well, and I don't blame them... but hey, it's a nice feeling. Especially when the people who get the games take the time to thank you and chat with you a bit. :D

The only people who do not understand generosity are those who have never experienced it themselves.
Once someone has been generous to them, they will understand.

This is the fault of our western capitalistic society. (I'm not saying that communism is good though.) People are taught to be selfish and always try to get more and more physical goods or money for themselves. Since kindergarten they are being told that the best things in life are to be a celebrity or a millionaire (or both).
I get the same thing from ppl for contributing to free software, they ask me "and how much money do you make on this?". When I say that none, but I get other stuff, like better free software for myself and everybody else, they say that somebody else could do it, and I'd get the benefits too. They just don't understand the spirit of a community, of working together and helping each other.
The world would be a so much better place if ppl had less incentive to get filthy rich, but instead didn't try to get more for themselves after they reach a reasonable living standard. Then they could use the extra funds to help other ppl.

talking about giving anything away to someone for reasons of kindness always makes me feel horrible about giving something away to any one, of course thats just me, and i feel once you tell someone else about what you've done, its no longer about the selflessness.

They are just mad because you didn't give the games to them thus making fun of you for giving it to strangers/ covering up the fact they wouldn't be able to do it. Ignore them and find some kind of defect of them that they do with there money to make fun of them as a way of biting back. Honestly it's your money and you can do as you please, they are in no place to judge you honestly. Better then spending money on a bunch of useless stuff like drugs, at least your making ppl happy by gifting them games.

Sounds like they're not friends at all, but rather a group of douchebags disguising themselves as your friends. While I'm certainly not one to suggest ending any sort of relationships on a whim, I would really suggest that you keep your eyes and ears open in hope of some better company.

Well, whether you mind it or not, just that they laugh at you at all for being selfless speaks volumes of their character in my opinion. It's behavior like that that drags plenty of good people to a level so much lower than how they would otherwise act. I'm glad you're strong enough to not be pressured, but many people don't have that sort of strength. That's why I don't approve of such behavior. There's a name for people who do that to the people around them, and it most certainly isn't "friend".

To be fair, I haven't bought any games specifically to give aw--okay, that's a lie, I did that ONCE. When Bastion was on sale on Humble Bundle, I bought a copy for a friend who had it on his wishlist. I have given away over a dozen games though, but that was all as part of bundles of which I didn't want/need all the games.

Recently I told my friends about Steam Gifts. Everything was cool until I started sending them links to my giveaways. In school they were like: "LOLS why do you buy games and put them on that site hahaha", "You're wasting your money idiot". I'm not angry or anything. You know how friends act to friends. They're friends.
Have you ever experienced something like this?
The funny thing is, that one who laughed at me the most won 3 giveaways on about 200 entries. He didn't make a single giveaway. Lucky bastard.
Giveaways:
Adventures of Shuggy $0.01
Skyrim? $1.01
edit9: Third, big giveaway starts in few hours. I also cleared my post a bit :)
