So, people now get punished for participating in a beta?
Comment has been collapsed.
people got punished for getting card drops early before foils were given to everyone
let's just say that you don't expect good things being an early adopter. early adopters are guinea pigs. they're there to be screwed over. the trick is to keep yourself from being a late adopter.
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree with early adopters being guinea pigs, but in this case they PLANNED to screw us (assuming the mysterious cards are a planned feature for the summer sale) while the foil card thingy was just an unplanned hotfix

given it's valve i doubt that mysterious 'items' were set in stone since they have freeform development workflows. they only started reporting mystery ticket drops last week and that was limited to tf2 so nobody would've thought they'd push it steam-wide.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, that explains it a bit :|. I still think it would be nice if Valve gives out mistery cards for every crafted badge prior this change if those cards have a bigger value than those worthless coupons
Comment has been collapsed.
They punished those people that crafted badges before being level 10 with that change
Comment has been collapsed.
actually, i think the deflated price has more to do with speculation causing a general median to crash rather than 'everyone below lv10 getting foils'. looking at the numbers right now, you shouldn't think that a card should lose around 80-95% of its price despite its drop rates, but that's what happened.
Comment has been collapsed.
This is just the kind of shifty bullshit I've come to expect from valve. They'll milk this for all it's worth and you'll all sit there and happily eat it up. You guys enjoy your badges circlejerking. I'll be over here not being crazy.
Comment has been collapsed.
and now whats your problem with that when you dont care about it why you talk then about that ignore us im happy with my senseless Badges and mistery cards
Comment has been collapsed.
You totally ignored the point I just made. I don't have to do any of those things. The fact that everyone like you DOES means that it succeeds and I am forced to be stuck with the shitty new profiles where if I want to unlock features I have to participate in card trading. So yeah, that's loads of fun.
Enjoy your meaningless steam level and badges wank festival.
Comment has been collapsed.
Meaningless? But you just said that you have to participate in it to unlock features!
And sorry, but that is a really dumb opinion. I crafted some badges without spending a single centof my money. Many people also got quite a bit of money by selling cards, boosters and foils.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are so blind. You're not earning any money. It's already in the system. It belongs to valve. You're just pushing it around. The marketplace means that things like keys, hats, and now cards are all just a reason for people to dump money into steam wallet. At that point, it's already game over. Valve has the money. It's not yours.
GG, valve.
Comment has been collapsed.
someone somewhere put money in his/her wallet... in that moment, that money belongs to valve.
that someone bougth my cards, now i have that wallet fund... then i'm going to expend those funds on GAMES (that yeah, are not going to be mine because licence and stuff, but hey, it's the legal way to get games, rigth?)...
so... free digital (stuff AKA cards) > marketplace > games...
i had $0.00 before the card thing started, now i have $20.00... and that money is going to be used to buy games...
what is the problem then?
Comment has been collapsed.
the Problem is he has no games ----> No Cards ------> No Money ----> No new Games ---> No New Cards ---> No New Money ->>> No New Games----> Thats the Point he harassing Poeple --->> the give him free games here -------> and at the end he harrasing Valve whats the places is to give him free games with free cards for free Money----> But the real Point is he is unlucky so simple ignore him
Comment has been collapsed.
For a second there, I thought you were making an interesting point about how you have to spend money to get the games that drop the cards, but it turns out all you're doing is calling me poor and a beggar.
Real classy.
Comment has been collapsed.
you arrent? and is this not the real Point that make you so angry that you have to harrasing Poeple they have fun to collect digital Badges i mean nobody die durring this process. Its not a thing that would make this world bader. I have see a lot of guys who can buy since this release any new games i mean thats a good thing or not?
Comment has been collapsed.
No, I'm not poor. Not that it matters. You shouldn't go around making completely baseless judgements about other people, especially if it's something as insensitive and callous as "you're just a poor beggar". And I'm not harassing anyone either. I don't know where you got that idea.
As for saying "well it's not hurting anyone so I don't see the big deal", I still don't like it and I still don't agree with it and I find the whole system to be trivial and frankly a little insulting.
It's all one big experiment to valve. They've been slowly introducing things like this since TF2, and the more people like you eat it up, the more they're encouraged to keep introducing similar things.

i really dont understand what you doing on this site i mean you see that we support valve with every Giveaway that i make i support Valve with Money and eventually new Users. So whats the point that you are here when you dislike VALVE so much? Its ok for me thats òut there gives Poeple who dont like Valve like i dont like EA(Origin) but its then not only fair that you dont try to take any games for free from a firm you dont like?

If it's really such a big mystery to you, read my comment below.

I actually stopped buying games on steam last year when valve made some major changes to the SSA that I fundamentally did not agree with. As I saw it, I had two choices. Either accept the new SSA and pledge to stop making purchases on steam, or reject the new SSA and lose all my games. I chose to keep my games. I now mostly buy from places like GMG.
Greenman Gaming is really great, by the way. I love them! Just thought I'd take a moment to plug them. :) Anyway, point taken. As long as I still use steam and especially if I still trade, I am indirectly supporting valve.
Still, having a steam account is kind of unavoidable if you're a hardcore PC gamer, and the alternative would be just to abandon all the games I have which are irrevocably tied to steam.
Oh well. :/

what a Point? you say only its crap (thats not a point) but that its only your opinion of this story i like the Badges and so im happy. What i say you dont like that ok go away make what ever you make but dont say do Poeple what they have todo we are free.

Hey, I've got one of these ... maybe I should try to craft it into a mystery hat :D
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm ashamed of myself, but I crafted my first badge. Only to get one of those mysterious cards. Let's see what they'll do. I could imagine that it's either a new 'Steam Summer Sale' card set you can craft with those cards or that they'll turn into something like a 10% off coupon for a game of your choice during the Steam Summer Sale (stackable, though not with other 10% off coupons). In any case I hope they'll still be worth something after they reveal what they do, otherwise I just lost a huge amount of money (nearly 2 Euros!), which is something I can hardly justify.

a mysterious card currently goes for around $1 (removing market fees). a badge usually costs >$1 even if you have half the cards. if you just want the card, i think it'll be cheaper just to straight-out buy one... or hold out until someone lists one on the cheap and buy that.
assuming you don't care about 100exp or the other drops, that is.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well with the amount of games with cards added lately and those that are still to come i think i'll be able to craft my way up to 20 easily in the next few weeks, which is what i'm waiting for.
I think i might just buy a mysterious card, just for funsies. Price is already dropping.

I crafted a couple alan wake badges and got a mystery card each time

I find it hilarious that you have to pay a 10% "mysterious fee" on all purchases of this Mystery trading card. Yes, it's actually called a mysterious fee.
I feel like they just added this so they could rake in the fees of people selling it to each other.
Comment has been collapsed.
I find it very clever, someone on steamdb mentioned they added a new game with the title "Mysterious" tied to these cards.
The fees themselves are thus associated with this "Mysterious" game.
Comment has been collapsed.
at this point, today, you would actually lose money, has the minimum you have to spend to get one is 10 euros in cards. Foil mistery cards are currently selling for almost 8 euros.
Comment has been collapsed.
Some info about the mystery cards : http://steamdb.info/blog/20/ it seems there are in fact different mystery cards.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmm, looks like there are 10 different cards. Looks like its very likely for them to be a badge now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well its just an idea and they can make it 3 pack of cards or 5 pack of cards. And thats why they are mystery, know one knows what they will give you. I keep 3 in my inventory just to see what will happen with them and the price get lower and lower with every day.
Comment has been collapsed.
I sincerely doubt that's what's going to happen. Given Valve's more recent history with their giveaways, chances are high that mystery cards will simply unlock an unstackable coupon or something similarly useless. Most likely the mystery cards will probably morph into regular trading cards once the Summer Seal starts.
I'm not expecting much charity from Valve this year -- it seems they're just getting greedier with each new sale.
Comment has been collapsed.
you can use the Steam card Exchange bots to trade the cards that you don't want for others that you do want...
is fair than most human (greedy bastards) traders

I sold ALL normal cards I had left to drop on the participating games.
With the earned money I bought a full set from those mystery cards, it worked out well. :) (there are 10 different mystery cards which can be distinguished by their classid)
I hope it will be worth it because otherwise I feel sad I gave away all normal cards.
Comment has been collapsed.
interesting. how do you check the class ID of a card ?
Comment has been collapsed.
with this userscript from steamdb --> http://steamdb.info/userscript/
install it and open the market or inventory in your browser, you can find the classid on the popup pictures from the cards.
mystery cards id's

What if there is actually some obscure indie game on Steam called Mysterious and devs really wanted to get in this trading cards business but they couldn't afford an artist?
Comment has been collapsed.
That just happened to me. I fucking wrote support. That's not cool, man. Fucking shit fuck damn!!

Look at mystery card pictures now vs the op's picture, id say 2 weeks till they are fully "cracked" open.
