This one is definitely solvable, taking all the hints into account, and maybe a tiny bit of bruteforcing ;)
Also, yes, please try student's puzzle (link above), though you might need 15 minutes for that one...
Edit: I just checked, it took me about 2 and a half hours, with trying to solve student's puzzle in between (and not getting anywhere) and waiting for hints here, so you might have to invest some more time if you want a 1:2 chance to win this game ;D

The hardest one of mecorx's is the first letter (and the third too, maybe), so if you know the others you can bruteforce it. ツ

I rotated the symbols and found something interesting in #5, but it doesn't make sense with the letter-number-letter-number-letter hint.

Okay, I know that I know the numbers. And I know the last one, except I'm not sure whether it's capitalized or not. That leaves me with...
26x2x26x2x2=5408 possibilities. At the speed of around 1 possibility per 3 seconds that's... 16224 seconds, or 4 and a half hours.

Nah, I love them MECs, and always save 'em. And they also have so high health it is hard to kill them +_+
But it took me 2 months - ahem even with cheating many missions because I got bored ahem - to finish the game with Long War, so I won't start it again any soon. So for now, the MEC-you will not die :P

Indeed it is! Brings back old (i.e.: genuine) X-Com (mind the dash) gameplay. Best thing that could have happened to XCOM (mind the...lack-of-dash LOL ) is this mod. It also teaches you not to hunt every UFO, some can be ignored/damaged only. And actually there is a config setting called 'dynamic war', which can make (Too) Long War a bit shorter for impatient folks like me.

I know that feeling :) Good thing that their accuracy is somewhat low.
For me it was the Seekers I hated the most for their 3-4-turn-cloaking. Didn't have many soldiers with Bioelectric Skin graft to detect them skulking around :P
But the "best" was when you met a mechanic alien unit (esp the Sectopod) with 50-60 Health (prob'ly the Long War improved their HP so high), along with "some" other units, like Muton Elite :)
But after you get Mind Control for your Psionics, it's easier (I think LW modified Psi too, because MC was not the final Psi skill)

Exactly. That is why it needed EW and the LW mod. The original campaign was waaaay too short. I was surprised - and very disappointed - when I first played the game and it had like less-than-20 hours of gameplay.
But now, it's perfect ^_^
Try it once when you'll have time. :) With LW mod :P Just make sure to enable some options in Second Wave settings then.

Honestly, I felt the normal mode was challenging enough, so I'm not sure if I'm ready to embark on such a journey. Strategy games are really my forte. I much preferred watching someone more skilled play on Youtube, haha. :P
