My Steam profile is at level 14 and I can't even remember when was the last time I got a booster pack. What about you guys, how often do you receive booster packs?

My level is 13 and I still get booster packs every 3-4 months. It matters what games you have, since Steam actually generates booster packs for the games (so their cards never disappear from circulation), and then picks someone who is eligible for that game (this is where Steam level affects the chances). I got multiple ones for Contrast, 1-2 for smaller indie games, once for Antisquad and most recently I got one for Soul Gambler (in January)

A little clarification. Steam doesn't "just" generate those boosters.

To create booster, someone must make a badge first. So, in theory, game can lose cards from circulation, since when you make badge you're using more cards then booster grants - for example real F2P games (like No More Room in Hell) can't create cards (beside some bugs) until someone buy stuff for $9, but since they have nothing to buy nobody can create new cards.

Well, it might be less black or white. FAQ says "Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community". It does not say an 1:1 ratio. Otherwise yes, what I wrote above is the way as I would do it (based on the description). Note that if you happen to be affiliated with Valve, and know exactly the way booster packs are generated, you might have signed an NDA.

I'm Steam level 14, have 410 eligible games, and had three booster drops so far, all within the last two months.

Been keeping track since around level 60.

Should probably get around to getting more cards.

I get atleast 1 every 2 weeks. Sometimes I have up to 3 every 2 weeks.

My Steam level is 72 at the moment though, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Every 10 levels add "20% chance" for you. It means that on level 50 you are twice as likely to get a booster pack as a level 2-9 user. On level 100, thrice as much chance, and so on.

At level 47 with 539 games eligible for booster packs I'd say I get 1 every 7-10 days on average. Latest ones were Why so Evil? Dystopia 2 and Drive to Hell.

427 eligible games, level 90+, if I get one per month I consider myself lucky after three months in a row without seeing a single one drop. Which makes me think that either I'm terribly unlucky or quite a bit of people on this thread aren't exactly being truthful.

I think it's luck, yeah. At lvl. 71 I'm happy if I see a booster drop in 3 months… Although I have only 64 games eligible, so that may be another explanation. :)

Maybe. To be honest, I don't farm cards. I wait until I 100% the game, then start collecting cards up to level 5. I'd like to keep a 66%+ of games played of my library, don't want to hoard just for the sake of hoarding or card farming.

Your chance below level 30 / 40 is very, very small.
Below level 20 it's close to none. You will notice already quite the increase just by leveling from 18 to 20, trust me. I know i did.
At level 20 my drop rate was already close to 1 every month or every 2 months.

After getting past level 60, my drop rate increased to 3-5 every month.
I am also eligible for close to 300 games, but it didn't change much from since i was eligible to close to 200, as i was at the same exact level then.

But yeah, both number of games eligible and level increase your odds. Level increases them the most, but you need some balance of both, i.e., if you're only eligible for like 20 games, being even level 150, i reckon won't do much for you. But the same can be said for being like level 20 and eligible for 150 games (which was roughly my case when i was around level 20, and my drop rate was much, much smaller).

And i know all this to be certain, it's not off the top of my head, i've tracked all my drop dates on a spreadsheet, along with level and number of games i was eligible for at the time of the drop (lol). :)

That's some seriously cool work you did here.
And thank you the great answer.
Leveling the account is pretty hard work as I save most of my cards for the events when the badge crafting gives +1 event card.
Too bad that the last event was so pathetic...

Thanks, hope it helped a bit. ;)

As for the last event, in terms of leveling up, actually... hate to break it to you, but there was never a better time to burn cards to level up than precisely in last event. :P

Yes, the event in itself was pathetic in more ways than 1:

  • The auction was a major rip-off, especially considering Valve got those game copies as gifts from devs themselves... and used them to make a profit; :/
  • There was nowhere nearly as good sales as in previous sales;
  • Etc.

But... if there was a time to level your account, that was it. At least, thus far. Considering that...

  • At peak time, you would get a holiday event card worth a little over 20c, which was half of what it would cost to craft most badges;
  • You could either smash normally useless emotes/bgs for gems and get 120-200 gems (depending on which sets u crafted, some would give less, true) and a sack of 1000 gems (again at peak) would sell for about 1€, making those gems worth from 10c to 20c;

So basically, you would get an almost complete return of whatever you burned to craft and level up. There was never a time you wouldn't have to be willing to compromise burning way more to level up. So, dunno how many cards you had, but if you saved at that time, you kinda missed out. :P

i'm level 62 and i only got 2 booster packs till now, and the first got dropped when i was in the 50s
i got 82 games where i can get booster dropps from my total of 151 games

earlier you had to reach the first level of the badge and get all card drops, before you were able to get a booster, now you just have to get the card drops >_> why steam, and also why steam you put in the untrable for 1 week thing? ..
