Hello guys,

Yesterday I've done some giveaways with multiple copies (In Public : For Lvl 2 / 3 / 4). So I did several tests to see user behavior in Public GAs.

I have questions about that :

Do you think it's "normal" that when people win a gift, they don't say a little thanks/feedback to the creator?

Personally I am quite amazed at the number of people who do not say thank you (Only 3 feedbacks on my 18 lasts copies GAs)...
For the moment, I don't blacklist anyone for this, but sometimes I hesitate...

Just to know : When YOU win a GA, do you write a little feedback to thanks the GA-creator?

PS : Sorry for my bad english,

There are two (yes, two!) little presents for you : here :D.
Thank you for reading, feel free to answer and have a nice day ! :D

Do you always thank the creator of a GA you just won?

Yes, that's the minimum to say "thank you" when we win.
No, I don't waste time with it.

350+ games sent in last 48 hours - 37 Thanks so yeah I know what you think :)

In fact, it's just sad.
Even after you reminded him about the very existence of "Thank You" he said "OK".
I knew! I knew he's from Russia! =d
idk why but I often meet people from Russia who use this site as an "investment"

I've had a surprising number of people not say that you after winning my forum giveaways. They get slapped with a big fat blacklist.

Yes you're right, but no need to give games to $50 to be thanked, it's the gesture that counts :-).

I don't always say thanks when I enter a giveaway. But I always read the description and say something if asked. And I always say thank you for smaller whitelist and group giveaways and I always say thank you if I win.

I don't blacklist people for saying thanks or not saying thank you but sometimes I'm tempted, for instance I had somebody win three games in a single train I posted in discussions without saying anything.

I have blacklisted people who have drawn attention by themselves by not saying thank you who I have then noticed have also broken rules or have a really bad ratio. In fact that has happened a lot...

Seriously though, how can someone think that thanking a random stranger that just gives him a game, crappy or not, is a waste of time?! It's common courtesy, folks. It's really not that hard to write "Thank you." or "Thanks". Heck, I'd accept a "ty" if they're just too busy saving lives or anything. Geez

I'd like to say "thanks," but theres so many giveaways that say "if you say thank you, then i'll blacklist you." like, im sure they're talking about saying just "thank you" during the giveaway, but its so aggressive that it kinda sets me on edge and I get scared and don't say anything because i just KNOW that i'll say "thanks for the giveaway, i've wanted this game for so long!" and then they'll reply with basically "fuck you, blacklisted." and looking through this thread and seeing how blacklist happy people are, i think my worries are not unfounded.

As for people telling me thanks, as long as they activate the gift and mark it as received then i take it as a thanks. i just assume everyone is as shy as i am.

If people insult you because you sayed them thank you to win a game, then it's you who should blacklist them, these people have no good manners!

I think GAs that saying dont say thank you means just dont spam thanks just for entering i believe the creator would accept a thank you for the winner he/she actually have a reason to thank him he won a game

So, I don't need thanks for creating a GA, but I don't mind if people thank me for that... or if they have something to say and want to share something. I don't mind my inbox getting filled with comments, I just scan them and then hit mark read and move on...

My typical public GA message looks something like this...

No need for thanks, but if you win, please be polite :)

Now, that said, people still somehow don't know how to say thank you for a game.
I've been too lazy in the past, but I will likely be going through my entire GA list and blacklisting those who haven't said thanks for winning...
I consider it good decorum and manners... if you can't bother, I'm not really interested in giving you anything else.

So while at the moment, I have a very small BL, I think about 37 people who have earned it for various reasons, I expect that the day I decide to go through all my GAs, that number will severely increase. :(

I always thank the GA creator when I win. As for the opposite side, I don't pay attention to it (Although I was a bit picky about it in the begining), now I even reply "You're welcome" to the one who say it :p

I think its the least thing to do is to say a thank you and wish him a nice day or something i always do that , i dont like to critisize other poeple actions but i do find it ungrateful because logically everyone enter giveaways they find appealing and would be happy to win so someone just gifted you a copy of a game that you wanna try or really want and you wont take 1 min of your time while its downloading to say hey thanks not cool

I see many people who thank me for sharing in giveaways I've created even though they are humble(gibs) and I've learned a fact that the winner is always a person who didn't thank but s/he may will do it afterwards.

So I use this rule every day =D

I hope it's not so rude because I don't usually win so when I enter a giveaway I don't expect too much...
And I have ~13k entered so far, can't imagine what would happen if I typed grateful commentary each time I enter =d

last time in a topic like this. I checked an "I always thank"-profile's wins randomly and half-half.. hypocrisy everywhere

imho its weird to write in ga description "I need thank you or BL".. after this thing the thank you means nothing

Thankfulness should not be imposed, but it should be automatic in people's minds. For sure it's needless to mention "Thank me or I BL you" ^^ '

I'm kinda new to this (joined 3 weeks ago) and I've been trying to figure out how to PM someone to say thank you to the gifts I won... I'm guessing you can't as I still can't find it.

I wasn't sure of the etiquette of it either as I read around here that no one appreciates the general thank you's on the GA links. So I assume it was the same for the games I won too. I guess that's not the case. Now I know better! ><

You can leave a reply message on the giveaway page - I think it's the preferred way for keys given through won page. Or you can write on steam profile.

Many read and appreciate comments on giveaways, don't get the wrong image of community from hearing vocal minority )

When entering a GA I sometimes post something but often not since I've noticed a lot of people dislike that. Generaly it depends on what they say as comments with the GA. After I win I try to come back and post a thank you message to show my gratitude.

thanks for 10hrs of barrel rolls :)

I like to always say thanks on gifts I win, but sometimes I might forget. I was raised to be polite, but I figure some people were not taught to be nice, or might just not be nice peoples. They might have other reasons for not saying thanks, who knows. I will not blacklist them for that anymore, because I am just a nice person to most everyone :) DO A BARREL BARREL ROLL!!

From my experience people hate the "Thank you" messages on their GA's. I used to do it all the time then i saw people making threads and people showing their annoyance of the "Thank you" message spam on their GA's. So too me i dont know what people would appreciate it or find it a annoyance.
Basically those who do not like the "thank you" messages negatively affects things cause as for me, i dont want my thank you to be perceived in a Negative way. so better option, for me, is to not bug the person with it.

When winner treats me like game dispenser machine, I reply with message as full of warm feelings as thrown knife "404 access denied" aka you have been blacklisted.
With over 1 million users registered, I see no point in dealing with ones lacking basic manners, full of entitlement and so on. And don't feel bad about BL, even Santa gives coal to some...
