I get really sick when I play certain first person games where I have to move around a lot like mirror's edge ;__;. I just started polarity and after 5 minutes I felt like I'm on a ship the middle of a storm. So anyone else has issues with certain genres?
I made my first mini train and i had to improvise. Sorry it's trash, you've been warned.

Talos Principle gives me motion sickness after ~10 mins of gameplay. I heard it's better if You switch to third person mode, haven't tried it out yet.

The only time I've got motion sickness from a game was with the slightly older Sherlock Holmes games by Frogware (The Awakened and Nemesis), because they were too smooth, giving them a very unnatural feel. This was apparently so common that they added a 3rd person mode in Nemesis just because so many had issues with The Awakened. The re-release of The Awakened that is on steam now is supposed to have fixed these issues.

Apart from that, I've never had any issues with motion sickness in games.

edit Scratch that, thought of another one, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Here it was the FoV that was the culprit. It was even more narrow than what you would expect from a console FPS, and it made the game completely unplayable for me.

I also have it with first-person games but not with all of them. I get really sick when the movement is flat and does not simulate real-life movement and when there's no point of reference in the screen (eg. a gun or something). I've abandoned so far Mirror's Edge (very low FOV is the main issue with that), Half-life 2, Mind Path to Thalamus and I have serious issues with The Vanishing of Ethan Carter which is a really good game otherwise...

On the other hand, I never had issues with racing games though I do have serious issues with nausea when travelling with cars...

Back in the day, Quake III Arena gave me the most heinous case of motion sickness going.

I get motion sick pretty easily in first person games. For me, I need to get the FOV up around 90, I need a point of referrence/cross hairs, and most of the time I wear sea-bands (wrist bands to help with nausea) when I have to play first-person games. Even then, an hour or two tops is as much as I can stand before I have to stop. Sucks because most of my favorite games are all first-person only.

I've never heard of sea-bands! Does it works? have you tried it for transport nausea also?

They work for me. Theyre these bands with a bead that sits on a pressure point on your wrist to help relieve nausea. One of my pregnant friends told me about it because they helped her xD And yea they work for transport nausea as well (for me anyway). Theyre usually pretty cheap online if youd like to try them

I'll definitely try them, I see they cost around 12€ but I'll search for cheaper. Thanx for the info!

I only have problems with FPS games which involves a lot of jumping and head bobbing. It was particularly bad with HL1 during the entire Xen part of the game (especially the Nihilanth fight). Haven't played HL2 yet, but I suspect it'll be the same. I suspect it's probably because I'm really susceptible to motion sickness. Taking a 30 minute break when you feel nauseous helped though.

The only time this happened to me was when I was playing Dead Island... turns out it was a combo of things like field of view, weapon sway, and motion blur

I got the same
But I have it also when watching a 3d movie or turn the 3d mode on, on the 3DS

I find I get really dizzy when first person games have that up and down head bob, I can't think of any off the top of my head though.

Many games have that and you can disable it too in some of them, luckily. It often causes Motion sickness in many people. I don't know why they do that. It isn't realistic or fun in any way.

Elder scrolls game, Stalker, and Arma series being some of the main culprits that I can name at the top of my head.

Yeah I always look for options to turn it off and since I always have it off that's probably why I can't name any games with headbob

Same here. I find it to be an annoying feature.

I never had any problems with motion sickness until I tried out the Oculus Rift. My cousin got the DK2 and I tried it out. After 15 minutes I was puking my guts out in his living room. After that, I've been leery of VR games.

I've had a similar problem with Gemini: Heroes Reborn. There's a level in which you are in a really high place and you have to jump from one tube to another (I'm kind of afraid of heights). I managed to pass it without dying but I was so tense I ended up sweating quite a bit.

Try to put your FOV to 90+

If there is an FOV option, and by God I always wish for one, I always crank it up above 90+. I can't play or enjoy games at sub 90 FOV. One of the reasons I like Totalbiscuits reviews of games is because he spends some time checking out the Options menu which admittedly many developers tend to screw up.

I always crank the FOV to 130 if possible.

It just looks better and you see more.
