I get really sick when I play certain first person games where I have to move around a lot like mirror's edge ;__;. I just started polarity and after 5 minutes I felt like I'm on a ship the middle of a storm. So anyone else has issues with certain genres?
I made my first mini train and i had to improvise. Sorry it's trash, you've been warned.

Anyone alse has a specific problem with certain genres?

Nope
Yes

The only time I had this problem is when I was messing with the field of view and I intentionally put it really low to see if it would make me sick and it did. I think I dropped it down to somewhere around 30-45. Have you tried raising the FOV in these games? Most games do not have the option to change it, but if you search online there may be a way to do it, even if it is not easy.

If you really can't find any way to change it in a certain game, you may want to try the program "Flawless Widescreen". I think that should let you change it in a lot of games.

Edit: I tried searching for Polarity, but I can't find a way to change the FOV and Flawless Widescreen doesn't show it as a supported game on their site. They do support Mirror's Edge though.

Oh that sucks :(. I played mirror's edge on ps3 though so that also won't fix it I think. Las time I played it was summer last year and I got sooooo sick I decided never to play it again

I've only experienced this with Dishonored. Increasing the FOV resolved it.

Talos Principle nearly made me throw up, it was horrible. There's literally a motion sickness camera option in the options. Turning off "bobbing" when walking helped a lot.

Been playing games for 25 years + and only that and Dead Space have ever made me feel ill. Wonder what it is!

I'm okay when it comes to most first person games, but Prey and Metro 2033 made me so sick I could only play them for about 10-15 minutes at a time and i eventually just gave up trying to beat them.

I have friends with the same problem.
They have no issues with 3rd person games, so maybe you can try those?

I get motion sickness after playing an hour or more in Dead Island, but not in any game.

I also have motion sickness when playing first person games. I can only last 30mins at a time max, before I would feel like vomiting.
Although I could slowly increase the time by forcing myself to play for consecutive days, but if I stop for a period of time, I need to restart the cycle, so I don't really play much fps now. >.>

I've always had this problem. Have to turn off head bobbing, motion blur, raise FOV and use widscreenfixer,
https://www.widescreenfixer.org/ whenever possible. What helps the most is getting away from the screen. For me that means a controller and a big TV. Sometimes it's still hopeless though. Among the Sleep is just unplayable for me.

I've never had an issue with a game. At least, not yet.

Nope, luckily I don't have this problem but I know there are people that suffer from it.
I remember once I was playing HAWX at a friend's house and he complained that me flying in odd angles when dogfighting made him a bit dizzy.

Try turning off head bobbing, motion blur and change the POV to atleast 90.
Those usually help me when I get motion sickness from a game.

My girlfriend suffers occasionally from this. We have seen FOV has an incidence on that.

Mirror's Edge is notorious for that because the devs for some ungodly reason only they know decided to have a field of view of like 50 degrees. This cases nausea for a lot of people.
Luckily, the engine they used is adaptable, so you can change the FoV to some amount acceptable by an average human being. There is a simple guide for that even: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=138177233

For the question: I can play most any FPS games, but the old engines make me nauseous. I had to finish Half-Life 1 in 5-10 minute segments, even with a 120-degree FoV. Same with Doom (which was really famous for making player vomit, by the way), any Build engine game, Quake…

Oh, hi old thread.

And yes, I still have it. Just a few days ago I tried Dead Island, couldn't play it because it has FOV of 60-something.

Some fans released a utility that allowed you to increase the FoV to something more reasonable. You can find it here. Though I would say don't bother. The game starts alright, but it's very repetitive, and there are long (repeating) sewer sections later on.

I wouldn't do that. Soulflyr got VACed for using FOV changer in another game, not sure which one. It would suck to lose my clean record. D:

Yeah, but you can play Dead Island without VAC too. I think.

Haven't experienced it yet with true FPS games - usually when I play I'm not just looking at the screen, thinking about turning the vision to the left, but turning to the left with my character, so every movement is planned and doesn't conflict with my senses.
BUT.
Hidden: On the trail of the Ancients really made me feel sick yesterday after 15-20 minutes - maybe I'll get used to it later. It's a 3D game that's basically a point and click, you're moving around by moving between hotspots, where you can look around, pick up items, etc. Problem is that the camera / character's head moves around. A lot. It's like your head would always move 1-2 cm to some direction, never stopping - and it makes really hard to focus on items, as I feel like I'm on a ship :D
