Borderlands 2 was amazing, too. Grindfest, yes, but fun grindfest.

Mass Effect 3 did come out in 2012 guys ;) Despite the ending I feel like that should've been up here. Failing that my vote goes to BL2 because there wasn't really any games I cared for

Awww voted for NS2 and it turns out the be the 2nd least popular game right behind Scribblenauts Unlimited and tied with Mark of the Ninjas. Played some Walking Dead so can see why it is #2 here, but Borderlands 2 as #1 I have to play that game someday

Suggestion:
You noted that size was a concern, and for that reason you excluded some games. This is, I feel, a poor practice for polls in general, and particularly something like 'game of the year' where it would be relatively easy for a user to pick from a list of any steam game that came out the past year.

As it is, the pool is still very large on the front page, and while it is attention-grabbing, I'm not sure if that's the best route.

(I realize picking games from a steam-generated list wouldn't necessarily be generalizable to any poll, which is probably what you're trying to test.)
