Which one do you like better?
Is that... rice noodles with Quorn mince and grated cheese-flavoured parsnip in a tomato-flavoured paprika coloured cranberry sauce?

That's just pasta with minced meat and grated cheese. -_-

Ah ok I never know what to expect from people who specialise as food therapists and such.
By the way, what's your official take on bread with pasta?

Food therapist? Food technomancer? Why are you mocking me so hard? ;_;
Bread with pasta = death. Rice with pasta = death. Everything you eat = death. Better eat air, just saying. :B
On a serious note, why the duck would you eat starch with starch? Maybe you want some potatoes with it too? You know, in order to add some starch, so you would eat starch with starch along with some more starch. xD

No offence meant buddy, sorry about the jest I hope you didn't take it hard. It's a really important thing and a serious job, I respect that.
Technomancer sounds very cool though.
But seriously, I hear a lot of people screaming about how bad carbohydrates are for you. Really? I don't think they are so bad unless you have some kind of intolerance, but I had never asked a specialist's opinion before.
Ahh also you made me think about that crazy lady who claimed she could live off just sunlight. Lol!

I'm kidding. I'm insensitive and heartless, so hit me hard. xD
Carbohydrates aren't bad. Your body needs everything. Heck, even junk food is in the food pyramid. ;)
I just hate people that say that gluten is bad. It's ducking bad! It's bad only for the people that have intolerance in it. xD
Where's that crazy lady? Is she still alive? :P Maybe she thinks she's a plant (even plants need more things than just sunlight).

It's not just one lady, Breatharianism is an entire movement, sadly :(

And I'll send them right back at you! It's clear you don't love starch nearly enough!
I bet you even throw away the starchy water after boiling pasta. And you'll probably criticize one of my favourite things to cook for myself - vegetable rice mixed with mashed potatoes.

The only downside is that rice takes longer to cook.
That really depends. Rice usually takes 10-20 minutes to cook, depending on grain, while pasta typically takes 8-16. If you prefer your pasta more thoroughly cooked, you may add 2 minutes to that. If you prefer your rice browned, you might add time to that.
Either way, it really should be fairly comparable.
If there's a downside between the two, it's likely that rice tends to store worse than pasta (You should eat rice within 3 days of putting it into the fridge, while pasta is best within 5 days of refrigeration.)
P.S. As far as Rice-Shaped Pasta goes: Mmm- CousCous. <3

Not really. Unlike presoaking beans, washing rice is optional (and it's arguable which approach is better, recipe requirements aside). And if we're including prep time as part of cooking time, then what about making homemade pasta, splitting it, stuffing it? What if you're making a multi-pasta dish? Those are trickier to blend together in the same pot than similar grain rice (or similar form beans), and often involve cooking multiple times.
You can't really get too nitpicky about the nuances of prep time, since they don't really compare evenly anymore- especially when you move into "and then do you use the rice in a soup or bake the pasta?" considerations.
P.S. Washing rice a billion times is flat out a negative. :P Once the water runs clear, you can stop. Really. It's okay. Let it go.

With 'pasta' you mean 'pastasciutta' or any kind of dough (for dumplings, pizza, cakes...)?

I did not mean to include pizza, cakes or other dough-based food.
I don't think I could do without pizza! Even if it's Domino's.

Ok, then I would definitely drop pasta. I'd still have my pizza, risotto and polenta :D

Ahh, if only there was a way to put it to good use...

Because it goes without saying that you can't live without potatoes! :D

Quinoa is easy enough to find here, but I bulgur is new to me.
I'd be curious to try it now. Thanks!

Try this bulgur salad recipe.
I'm not a salad fan but this is packed with flavour (of course, I also have it with the harissa chicken!)

Thanks, that sounds yummy (though I can't stand cucumber, but I guess I can do without it).
It turns out Tesco sells bulgur wheat, but not at my local town centre shop. I'll have to try it someday.

Suppose you had to do without one of them for the rest of your life. What would you rather live without? What could you not live without?
Personally, I have spent quite a few years in Italy and I think I have had enough pasta for the rest of my life. Plus I like rice salads better.
The only downside is that rice takes longer to cook.
And of course there are unrelated giveaways to be found here:
Pasta (OVER)
Rice (OVER)
