It's all done now. Thanks to everyone who participated. These all finished at various times today. Often I created them as I added their puzzles. Special extra thanks to the several people who pointed out a few mistakes I had made. :) :(
I had fun with it. I will take a bit more care setting up next time to avoid mistakes requiring edits. I'll also try to take more care with ones that may be extra difficult for people whose English is not great.

Solutions:

1. Indie Gala 2 - The Epic Gala Bundle this was the standard, first letter of each word is the giveaway address. Except I didn't realize for first couple days that was an L, not at I, hence the hint.
2. Greed Corp was a Pink BushBaby toy my daughter got at the zoo. bit.ly/pinkbushbaby Someone though they'd be funny though and make bit.ly/pinkmouse point to Number 11.
3. Toki Tori Metal Zangief, Qq, 8 (infinity on it's side)
4. Killing Floor replace the imgur.com with bit.ly
5. BioShock 2 the address to be used with bit.ly was written in the alphabet from LEGO Bionicle. Incidentally, the address was also a Steam key for Bunch of Heroes
6. Humble Indie Bundle #4 the picture was actually a JPEG with a RAR file copied inside of it. Renaming it to .rar and opening the RAR file revealed two files. One, securitybreach.txt described some kind of hacking attack, and included several codes (Steam keys for the three Hacker: Evolution games, and Critical Mass). The second file, just called hosts, had a bunch of nonsense words in it, and also included several url shortener addresses mixed in. Using the codes along with various shorteners could take you to various places, including the original thread, the public giveaway Number 11, some pastebins with random translated versions of Number 8's clue, and some other stuff. One of them took you to this image. Which happened to be a Steam key for Greed Corp, but the word GREED was the real clue. It referenced a movie, Wall Street where Michael Douglas says "greed, for lack of a better word, is good." This indicated to use the letters in the image with the url shortener is.gd
7. Humble Indie Bundle #3 was linked to from Number 6
8. Magicka following the directions as I mean them worked like this: n (from sentence) → n52 (count words from the chatlog I originally posted, including when it was part of a name) → then52what → then5what → then5what11 (at the end, not add to 5) → winthen5what11start → winthen5whaxat11start (put ax in the middle of what) → winthen5wat11start → v.gd/winthen5wat11start (very good job meaning to use v.gd
9. Steel Storm Weapon Pack DLC 4square, Ouch!, B (the third character in the case example), Isaac (The Binding of), p(ee)
10. Renegade Ops linked from Number 9 after a joke about that one being a crappy gift
11. Titan Quest Gold (DE) was a public giveaway
12. Tropico Trilogy Inside the Titan Quest giveaway I had said GLHFetcBBQ and Lollercopterwafflerofl just being silly. One commenter thanked for the giveaway and said he was going to start working on decoding those now. So I figured I should oblige. One was a bit.ly link to a pastebin of an encoded set of directions. Another was a tinyurl.com link to a pastebin with instructions, written in Scottish vernacular, for decoding the directions. It was a keyword cipher with GLHFetcBBQ as the keyword. It instructed you to look in other puzzles to find encoded words, that could then be combined to create a shortened url link to the giveaway. The words were submarine, laryngitis, aardvark, microphone. The answer was bit.ly/submarinelaryngitis
13. Hydrophobia: Prophecy this was supposed to also be found through a similar process to Number 6, but I messed up and it wasn't, so I just decided to skip it
14. Humble Introversion Bundle I intended for this one to be found inside one of the gifts, or maybe a couple, but I forgot to do it, so I just added it to the original thread near the end
15. Indie Gala 2 - The Carebear Bundle this was a bonus gift I linked to in one of my hint responses

I enjoyed doing this whole thing, and I'm planning something new for May some time. I'm off all next week though, so it'll be later on. Other gifters and/or puzzlemakers who want to participate, get in touch with me in a week or so please.

The following people found six or more giveaways, they earned a voice in the post-puzzle celebratory giveaway. Post your votes in the thread, or find me on Steam and we'll chat.

Award, Butters782, chour, juzer, Rys33, Toff

If you think I missed you, let me know

Oops! Thirteen giveaways. I'm done making them.

Anyone with SIX or more solves is invited to the after-puzzle celebratory giveaway. :D

On, like, Monday, I was thinking that I was going to get around to making a big multi-gift puzzle thread deal.
Now it's Thursday, and I worked on it for maybe half an hour.
Brought it up in chat. They didn't care.

HINT 2: I'm bad at bit.ly, think of the answer as a KEY.
HINT 3: Take into account the details of the second image.

There seems to only be 4 blanks for 9 + 10. Also is there any reason its 9 + 10 instead of 9 & 10 like the rest use &?

The fourth clue is not a blank. Yes.

I guess that's it for me, can't budge any further. I have some good or even great ideas about many of the puzzles, and some progress, but in the end I only nailed two easy ones (#1, #4)

Even #8 I'm out of ideas of what I am doing wrong, even though I was the one that apparently made you realize there was something wrong with the original text, eh.

I guess I will have to wait to see the solutions and apply a wall to my forehead in a forceful manner a few times thereafter.

Good of ya to post so many giveaways and interesting puzzles! :)

For #8, look at the last sentence.
But #3 and #9 are normal forum-style puzzles, just the giveaway code.

Maybe somewhere older . . .

All the keys probably count as the 'bonuses' mentioned in the current title.. Sadly, all of the ones I tried were already used up when I found 'em. Good luck maybe you'll manage to go through this further than I did =]

As of 2255 USA Eastern Time (GMT -4):
1. - 14. Open for another 1 day
These are all scheduled to end at different times on Sunday.
2. Naga. But not the fish kind.
6. Win, 7, or IZ___ might be helpful here.
8. Eleven is a number. PrtScr, ⊞+R, mspaint, Ctrl+V, Rotate 180°
13. Sorry, I forgot to make puzzles for this or make it reachable. =O I don't even... EDIT: Seriously, I did. It will show up as another gift some other time.
15. Here's a freebie to make up for it.

It's not like I didn't try during the whole week.. I'm sure I got general idea what to do and that there's a bonus along the way (I think you Bruto got that bonus EDIT: no, it was Toff) but just can't do it. No worries, I'm curious to see the solution, I almost gave up on others but eventually solved almost everything, this one won't fly for me tho'.

Thank you for the great challenge, dys, awesome work here, and great generosity with the rewards!

My small gripe is some of the stuff was hardly solvable without prior knowledge, the hints added later on did help a lot but especially that lego bionic alphabet will haunt me now :) No idea why it didn't come up in reverse image search :o (maybe didn't try hard enough). I have no excuse for not getting with #3 to the end, though =]

Also thank you for the opportunity to participate in the after party!

Thank you for the puzzles and the giveaways. Awesome, Dys.

These were for very expert people. I didn't get a lot of them:

*1 & 2. Non native English speaker... I didn't get the hint.

*3. Steel wrestler clue was too vague for me. I tried with comic characters only.

*4 & 5. I still wonder why not so much entries in #4 and #5.

*6. I was stuck at the GREED image. is.gd isn't inclued in the 'hosts' file. I tried a lot of shorter sites using this key...

*8. What a mistake I made! I counted from the back of the whole text (do[i]ng), not of the sentence.

*9. I got only 4square and Ouch... and I don't know what is the rest yet.

*12. I tried bit.ly only, so I got the directions without the rest and without realizing something was missing.

Thank you Dys, for posting the solution. :-)

4 Several people who solved owned Killing Floor, it still had the second most entries.
5 It really depended on whether you could recognize the Matoran alphabet, or figure out what it was.
6 I didn't include is.gd purposely there. Though v.gd was included.
12 I did use tinyurl.com in my reply to Toff in the comments as a clue.

Man reading some of those solutions was complex enough! Having to figure that out on my own would have been impossible haha, I need to get much better at these puzzles. Thank you so much for the giveaways and the gift! And thanks for lowering the limit to 6, if not I would not be in the after party. You are amazing, and way too smart.

Wow, thanks for the solutions and your effort and games you put into this! Tried for quite a while on them, but didn't make it to the end of any of the real puzzles. :( Pretty hard puzzles actually, especially when you're not able to get any help out of the clues! For example for #3 didn't get the Steel Wrestler (after your hint I thought you were talking about Real Steel and tried all the robots included in the film) or for #8 managed to solve the key but couldn't make sense of the last sentence clue (v.gd). Some of the others were just not solveable at all for me (BushBaby? Never heard that one before, might be because I'm not a native english speaker; never before seen that Lego Bionicle Alphabet and a reverse image search didn't help either; hadn't seen that #6 picture before, probably not done the puzzle where it was from?). Ok, #4 was quite solveable, too bad I didn't think of that easy solution. ;)
Looking forward to your next puzzle, but compared to my success here, I might think twice about it before starting.

Ah, I was so close to solving some other ones! :)

-2- BushBaby. Never would've guessed it. First time I hear of this word. ^^' I've seen this animal but didn't know its English name.
-3- Steel Wrestler got me. I thought it was Ace Steel and for some reason was pretty sure about it. And I actually did guess the other letters correctly, but wasn't sure about them instead.
-6- Got to GREED and knew it's a clue, and even found the quote from that movie, but since up until now I wasn't aware of is.gd existence, there was no way for me to solve it.
-9- Got 3 characters correctly, didn't think of Isaac and was pretty sure the 3rd character is K, as in 'kay. Like kids say in chat.

Overall, the puzzle difficulty was just about right for me, thank you so much for this puzzle giveaway fest. :)

So this puzzles can be dubbed the most twisted seen here so far. Not the most difficult but definitely twisted :) Thank you, dys, for making my brain hurt.

I like all the pieces but the 2nd one was the most original. For my taste. The hardest one was certainly 6th.

So looking forward to any new puzzles from you. And any treats along the way as well :)

P.S. As for the celebratory giveaway. I'm not quite sure whether we should vote for a game or the way it should be held :) Maybe it's better to have a chat.

This puzzle must of had a lot of planning going into it. I got some questions for you.

For 6 - What was the hint used for?

What did you do to have a picture on the .RAR file when turned to .JPG?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Found this with a quick Google search. Basicly you copy the RAR inside of the JPEG. So it appears as an image when looked at, but archive programs can still open the RAR.
One hint was meant to indicate that you needed some type of archive software. The link to quotes hint was meant to give an indication that the GREED clue indicated the is.gd url shortener. The third hint indicated that you needed to remove the hyphens, the opposite of what was required to successfully find Number 5.
