My partner and I have a pc, a laptop, xbox 360 and ps3. They are good for different games and different controls. You can also pick up the cheapest games on a platform as you will have a choice.

I hear that a lot, but I cannot buy used PC games. It does not take long for previously owned console titles to get fairly cheap... so as long as I do not insist on a title at release I can save a considerable amount. If I do get it new, I also have the option to sell it later to recoup some of the cost... another thing I am unable to do with my PC titles.

well, you can resell pc-games by simply selling the accounts,
it may be a bit risky since it's against the terms of use (in case of steam, uplay or origin)
but it's also risky to buy used console games, since there's absolutely no guarantee that they're working as intended (scratches, cracks etc...)

I generally only purchase used titles from consignment shops, and they all give you between 10 and 30 days to return due to defects. I have honestly thought about selling my Steam account and even my PSN account as well... but the possibility that they could ban the account so I would get paid nothing and still not have access to the account is enough to spook me out of that one.

Pretty decent PC, SNES, PS2, PS3, Gameboy Advance, PSP.
Consoles are fun when your friends visit a lot. If I play alone I always play on PC, most of the games on consoles are overrated anyway. It's like fastfood: U get excited for your Bigmac that u saw on a commercial on TV, it tastes good but u don't get what u saw in the commercial & after an hour u are hungry again. While games on the PC are like a big buffet, there something for everyone out there & while everyone is eating the foodtrays are getting refilled so u can get another plate if u so desire. Meanwhile the chefs are in the kitchen looking at the customers to see if they are satisfied.

PC + X360. I'm fine with it. The XBox is cool for playing with friends, you know, fighting games, sport games, and stuff. But, if you want exclusives, go for PS3... It has a very good catalogue. MGS4, GOW 3, GOW Ascension, Uncharted saga, Last of Us, Persona 5 (coming soon), they are all pretty good.

PC, PS4, PS3, Vita, PSP, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, and 3DS... me likey games!!! 360 is my least preferred console... just sayin'. PS3 has been my favorite console. I love my PC, and went sans console for years, but the market has been favoring the standalone systems and PC either got the shaft or a poor PC port. I started buying consoles again, but if I can get a game with good quality configurations that actually utilize my PCs capabilities that wins hands down.
If you are interested in a 360, here are a couple of things I can think of that I wish I had known prior to buying mine.

DAMN! You have an amazing range of gaming devices! I would like to invest in a Vita! I want to play Persona 4 (Never played any game in the series and heard good things!) and some old classic RPGs and doing so portably will make it worth my time rather than the same spot!

yup , those steam deals got me to invest in a pc , way cheaper and better

yup High end PC wreck any consoles this days, when most of AAA consoles games also release for the master race.
What High end PC lack is JRPGs only which sadly PS4 don't have unlike the predecessor PS3.

Have a PS3... played a lot of good series on that. Have a gaming PC that I built myself in 2010 so it is kinda getting old for the new game standards but I can still run almost 90% of the games on low settings.
As for the playtime... don't know the exact time but:
PS3 may be about 800-900 odd hours easily which consist mainly of GOD of War (All 6 games multiple playthroughs), KillZone series, Resistance Series, Mortal Kombat, WWE Raw vs Smackdown (mostly multiplayer local). Resistance series, Uncharted Series, Battlefield series, COD series (MW3, BO, BO2 single player and Multiplayer), Tekken 6 (lot of playtime on this with local vs mode with friends), Dante's Inferno, Metal Gear Solid 4,Little Big Planet (both 1 and 2 local co-op with my ex gf). Other games are also there but I might not have spent as much time on them so much. I have about 100 odd games for PS3.
On PC I don't know how much time I've actually spent playing games. Lot of my steam game time would actually be idling games for cards. but I have finished 50 odd games story line. Don't play much online on PC as my PC is odd and my current internet connection kinda sucks for online gaming since I moved back to university after I broke up with my ex gf. Still I can say I must have played about 500 odd hours on my PC. also I do have a lot of games on actual CD/Hard Drive free of DRM that I play here and there.

PC and every Sony console except PS Vita and PS4.
Every time I save up to buy either of these two, I'll use it up on Steam sales. Don't need it now anyways, waiting for Bloodborne.

I have high end PC, PS3, PSVITA, PSP
gonna buy PS4 but not until there is game in that, what the point of buying a console without JRPG, wasting money.

Odd... JRPGs are the only games I've never really enjoyed. They are sort of the country music of games... most people love them, but they annoy the ever living crap out of me.
But yeah, if that is what you are looking for... I have not even seen anything on the radar for ya'... they still seem to be popping up on the PS3 and Vita though.

If PS4 become exclusive JRPG console as their predecessor again, I will buy it.

My guess is that they are coming. Many developers for the PS3 are still kicking out titles they have had in the bag for PS3, while working with the newer hardware on the PS4 to learn its strengths and weaknesses. I think that is also a part of the reason we have seen so many "year in advance+" pre-orders.

I've got a PC, 3DS, Vita and a PS4 mainly
Got pretty much every console other than a Wii U and an Xbone lying around too.

I have PC as main platform and almost all consoles to play some esclusives since PC lacks a few genres.
In a nutshell we can put consoles like:
Xbox One -> I don't have this console but i've tryed it and it seems to be the best media center
Xbox360-> Best west exclusives, best multiplatform of the previous generation
Xbox ->Some good exclusives however she distinguishes from her sisters because it allowed from LANs.
PS4-> lacks games but it's the most focused on gaming out of the new generation, it's insert disk and play easely
PS3-> best japan games from gundam to tales series, most japanese masterpieces are here. Worst console of her generation, from patching games with GB of data to having patches everyweek the size of hundred of MB that do nothing on the user functionality. It is also the only console that lost features with official patches.
PS2->best Japanese games i have ever played. Controller is very crappy for people with big hands.
Wii U-> i don't have this console so i can't comment by experience.
Wii-> best party console, excelent backwards compatibility. It's hard to find the gems from the insane ammount of shovelware. if you get this console, google is your friend...
Personally i think you should buy a console that has the genres you want. Go for xbox for racing/shooters; PSX for japanese games (JRPG and fighters); nintendo for adventure and party games.

I've got a gaming PC as well as an Xbox 360 and I will most likely get an Xbox One in 2015.
I use my PC for indie games and multiplayer (like Battlefield or DayZ) but when it comes to singleplayer titles I prefer playing them on my Xbox. You can get a used 360 for like $150 now so if you don't want to spend the money on the Xbox One then go for it and get a 360. It's still a great console.

There's a lot of retardness on both sides when it comes to this topic. My view is: buy the GAMES you like. If those games happen to be exclusives, delay 'till you have a cheap way of playing them.
I do have a decent gaming PC, which will probably always be my 1st choice of gaming platform, unless something catastrofic happens to the VG industry.
Now that a good friend of mine passed from PS3 to PS4, I'll have his old PS3 lent so I can play the exclusives I'm interested in.
There's also a good chance I'll buy a 2nd-hand Wii U in 1-2 years, again for those few interesting exclusives.

is it worth having a good gaming pc and a console? How many of you have both of them? Why?
I am considering buying a cheap used xbox360 to play some exclusives (Bayonetta, Rise of Tomb Raider 2015, etc)
What do you think?
