Question about NieR: Automata

Hey Guys,

I've seen that NieR: Automata hits Steam soon, so I kinda did a research.
I'm interested in playing NieR: Automata but is it neccessary to play Drakengard 1, NieR or Drakengard 3?
I heared they're Sequels to NieR?

My Question:
Can I still play NieR: Automata without any knowledge whatsoever? Because I feel like I'm missing something behind it, without having any knowledge about the other games mentioned above?

Probably you don't need to bother playing those and this is quite separate from them except for a few references to the older games.
