Well, I've read the jargon at the top of this page, although my ratio is not quite as much as desired, I feel as though I would still be an active member of the group. I will be honest and say I do have work Monday - Friday, so my participation at these times will be limited, however during weekend I will be free to hang around :)
To sum up, I'm interested in joining! :D

Lol, reading thru this thread makes me think you guys are like those police departments that set up fake events and invite people with outstanding warrants and when they show up, they get arrested on the spot. You guys put this thread out every so often and without fail, a half-dozen to dozen people get nabbed and suspended every single time. Good job.
By the way, no need to do a background check on me. I'm clean....I think, or else I'll find out soon enough :).

Nah, they want to lull you into a false sense of security.

Because they regularly cull the fat. Pun intended. So, so sadly intended. (Where's my candy bar?)

Hello. I would like to join. I'm already member in some great groups where I chat almost every day. I like to meet people, and talk about anything interesting. Also I love multiplayer games, so would be nice participate in some events.

"Thank you"s from people you're about to give free stuff to mean nothing, it takes two seconds to type "thanks" and click "send". Any displays of gratitude only get lost in the middle of hundred other users yelling their "thanks", "thx" or "thanks for the chance", so I don't want to waste time by leaving a comment the person making the giveaway is unlikely to read anyway. I much rather express my gratitude with a more personal message whenever I happen to win because that I know will reach the person it's addressed to, and hopefully actually means something. Or leave a message if there's actually a topic the maker of the giveaway wishes to discuss. Doesn't mean I'm less grateful than you are. Copying "thank you :)" to clipboard and spanking ctrl+v every time you enter a giveaway achieves nothing, and in my opinion replies like that seem anything but genuine.

And so do I, just not every single time. And when I do, I try to put some effort into my comment and try to make it stand out. But if I can't think of anything worth saying then I usually don't comment at all. And as I said already, this doesn't mean I'm not grateful for the giveaways I enter. I just don't see any point in just automatically posting the same comment over and over again to every single giveaway I enter because chances are there are already six pages full of similar impersonal comments.

Damn fucking broken records all over again, it is funny that this guy doesn't even read the topic..

I don't want to join your community, I only read the requirements because I find it interesting what kind of things different private GA groups expect of their potential members. Now that I read through the actual discussion...well, I still don't see why the amount of giveaways entered in relation to the comments posted is important. If you only want to see if a user is active in the community, what does it matter how many giveaways they have entered? But thanks for answering my question everyone! It feels warm to be part of such a friendly community. I'll be sure to post more often from now on.

You only get a certain amount of points over a certain amount of time, so that makes it a useful metric, and it's easier than trying to determine a set comments/time, especially since that would not account for, for example, long periods of inactivity, though this method does. It's also a rough indicator of priorities, showing whether a user is more interested in trying to win something or in being involved in the community. As has been said over and over ad nauseam, it's only one of several things taken into consideration, and is, in fact, given less weight than almost any other. All 'requirements' are negotiable and not set in stone.

Alright. I didn't think it that way, and it does make sense now that you explained it. But while I do understand it's only one of the several things that are considered, there's no way to know that this one particular thing is given less weight than the others just by looking at the opening post. It's still listed before contribution value and "not someone who was kicked because of inactivity", which is probably why it caught my attention in the first place. Also, people seem to have interpreted my original question as a mean to somehow discredit the way this group selects it's members. Nobody seems to have even considered that maybe I was genuinely interested. :P Anyway, thanks for clearing that up.

it is funny to see always people with low comment ratio complaining! xD
you dont have to spam thanks on every giveaway, just say some words to the creator from the giveaway you enter.
for the comment counter the forum posts will count, too. (So just being active in forum will get you loads of comments!)
So it really isn't a problem to get a good comment/entry ratio.

1) A good Steam rating - CHECK
2) A good comment/entry ratio(2:1), my profile as an example - CHECK
3) To keep the number of members manageable: at least $50 contribution value on steamgifts.com - No Check... A non giveaway group that asks for giveaways, crap..
4) Not someone who was just kicked from the group due to inactivit - CHECK

Actually, you don't fulfill 2) (not that it really matters), and to clear things up re: "A non giveaway group that asks for giveaways", you are not required to make any giveaways as a member of the public portion.

I'm working towards both of the rules that i do't fulfill >_<.
Well good luck in finding members ! hope I get picked someday

Notable Odds - A close-knit gaming community on Steamgifts since February 2012!
Deadline to make applications: June 3, 2013
UPDATE: Recruitment open
Greetings, community!
It's my pleasure to announce that the Notable Odds is recruiting new members for both the open and private portions of the group again. The open part of the group is open for anyone to join, assuming they meet some minimal requirements.
By being a member of the Notable Odds, you will be able to participate in many events that we organize, such as Creative contests(Writing/Drawing/Photography/Singing, with prizes), poker tournaments (with prizes), inter-group battles in TF2 and other games(and co-ops), maybe even some giveaways now and then and etc..
We are looking for people who:
1) are active;
2) nice to chat with;
3) and interested in playing games together and joining contests/events.
We are NOT looking for people to make giveaways, and you will never be expected to.
We are not interested in beggars, cheaters, or annoying people in general.
If you're interested in being a part of our community, please make a comment below indicating your interest, and whether you wish to also be considered for the private part of the group, and make sure you meet these requirements:
1) A good Steam rating
2) A good comment/entry ratio(2:1), my profile as an example
3) To keep the number of members manageable: at least $50 contribution value on steamgifts.com
4) Not someone who was just kicked from the group due to inactivity.
Those wishing to join the private portion are subject to a few further requirements. In addition to meeting the usual requirements and abiding by the usual rules:
Applicants should have a minimum gifted value of $150.
Members are expected not to leak private giveaway links (obviously).
Members are required to have at least 15 points' worth of giveaways shared only with the other members of the private part of the group every two months.
Some final information:
1) If you are interested in joining the giveaways part of the group, you will have a better chance if you participate in the group and show us that you are a nice fellow. We still re-evaluate that kind of membership at the beginning of every month.
2) The admins reserve the right to kick people out of the group without explanations. However, this only happens when people are caught disrespecting SG rules, leaking private links, or disrespecting people in general.

Groups Poker Tournament #1-Groups Poker Tournament #2-Steam Gift's Poker FFA Tournament-First Invitation-Second and Third Invitation-Forth Invitation-Fifth Invitation_First Public Invitation-Second Public Invitation-Third and Forth Invitation-Fifth Invitation-Seventh Invitation-1 year old "invitation"
Please note that these requirements are guidelines to give you an idea of how we select new members from amongst the applicants*. They are ultimately flexible and if you are interested in joining, you should feel free to say so in this thread.
*We use them as rough benchmarks for character, experience, activity, participation, and similar qualities we desire in applicants. We very frequently take mitigating circumstances into account.
TL;DR? - You won't be invited ;)
Feel free to join our chat. It’s open for guests, but don’t beg for invites there, don’t idle, and don’t attempt to add or message group members privately to ask for invites.
