I don't link my Steam account anymore after struggling for years to get my one unlinked from Playfire.

I don't understand what's the problem with linking it. It's not like they gain access to your steam account or something all they get is confirmation from steam telling them which account that is, pretty much everything they get is already publicly visible on steam

In my case, my Steam account is private so nothing is publicly visible on Steam.

What do you mean? I make my profile public for a short while once a week when syncing with SG. There isn't any linking involved. I am probably not your normal person though. I don't have a FB or Instagram account and maybe have 10 tweets on my twitter account. I am a private person. I signed up for SG because I like to give away games and win the odd game too. How is that related to the HB link?

When you first register to SG you have to link your steam account just like with every other site using the steam api for logins, it's not a real "linking". And the social media accounts things is nothing strange at least to me I don't have any other than throwaways and most of my friends are the same way.

That's not the way that playfire linked to your account. It basically sucked all of the info on your play from Steam and created pages from that info. What's worse is that there was no way to unlink it so they kept sucking the info and published things like the original account name.

Have you ever heard the saying "If you aren't paying for the product then you are the product"? The only reason for HB to give away these games to people who have linked accounts is because they want the information from those accounts. It's the same as social media accounts. There is no reason to think that HB isn't interested in the same thing as playfire. While they don't make the info public, they will using it internally and there is nothing to stop them from creating a more public system using that information in the future.

SG has full access to that info too, it's not different it's using the exact same API provided by steam in fact every site that has the button "login with steam" has access to all of that info as long as your profile is public just like you mentioned on your previous comment about making your profile public once a week. Honestly that sounds really paranoid to me not like anyone could do anything with your steam info other than determine if you're a 24/7 gaming no lifer or something like that.

You need to understand that your steam link to any of sites does not provide to this sites any useful information aside your steam nickname and public profile with games you played. So it is safe to you. As for humble bundle site - you can unlink any steam or facebook account in one simple click in your account options page on humble bundle. Really easy, safe for your private info and other stuff.
But if you really dont want to use your main acc - use new one made specially for humble. It looks like Humble site don't care about your steam acc is old, new, have games on it or not so you can use a fresh and empty steam acc specially for link it to humble and participate on promotions

Heh, I have the same problem, kind of. I already own the game and was going to pick it up for my significant other but I keep procrastinating since there is so much time left :D

Edit: This seems to be a perfect opportunity to complain about the limits of Steam family sharing so I'm going to do just that. It's fucking useless if you want to play, even different games, at the same time. Excuse my language but it's really not very convenient for people in the same household. For people on different continents however...

I tend to miss these things, as happened this time. But I'm okay with it. No real need for more games I won't play.

Not expiring, just removed from the Humble page. If you revealed the key and copied it elsewhere, it will still be good forever. The wording on the Humble page is misleading.

At least so far. At some point, they might start going the NBA route and revoking or disabling unused keys.
