Haha yeah. I'm absolutely sure I can't solve most of the puzzles in here. But some people can, so what the hell right. Leave the puzzles. Puzzles are friendly =)

There's nothing like spending hours on a puzzle for a copy of Bad Rats.

I don't like the puzzles that are "Guess what I like" "Guess what I mean" or puzzles that where build on the mentality "If I know this they got to know it too".
The other ones that require thinking and searching are ok by me, but most of the times they require time to solve which I don't want to provide for this task.

Eh. I'm mostly guilty of hiding the links or 5-digit IDs, and then wrapping the hints in a few layers of shitpost and/or insane troll logic. So I guess I'm also to blame for the rant ? Got some ideas to build better puzzles in the future though, but those are going to take more effort.

I like many puzzles (not all of them), but I haven't tried too many lately since I've been busy with other things (real life and playing games on Steam).
I wish that more puzzle creators would say what games there are giveaways for after solving the puzzles. I only enter giveaways for games on my wishlist, and lately I've solved a lot of puzzles where no giveaways were for me. Some puzzles are a lot of fun, and there's no need for giveaways (just solving the puzzle is fun enough), but I don't even try for the more frustrating ones anymore if the giveaways are secret.
I'm probably in the "masochist or IQ over 9000 + unlimited knowledge about everything in this world" group, since I can only remember one or two puzzles that I didn't manage to solve after trying.

I don't get what the secrets are all about. Why not just tell it from the start?
If it's a good game, more people will try to solve the puzzle, and they won't give up as easily.
If the giveaway is for Bad Rats, there isn't any risk for anyone getting mad after working 4 hours on solving the multi level puzzle with 12 kinds of ciphers and encryption.

I try to do that by adding the name of the game and a link to the steam store in the post... and then pass half an hour rechecking those links and correcting them, because I keep pasting links to the giveaways instead of those to the steam store :P

Good manners. Leaking one's own puzzles <- not as good ;)
Puzzle creators leaking their own puzzles by accident has happened before. I remember m139 doing the same thing in a puzzle. Also in one you were a co-creator of: in the train of madness puzzle, GR wrote a comment to me in one of the hard section giveaways, then replied to my comment in the hint thread with a link to the puzzle giveaway comment. Whoops :D
I saw the comment in less than an hour and made GR aware of it. I don't think anyone else discovered the leak, so no one joined the giveaways that way.

Can you be suspended for leaking your own puzzle giveaways?

When I solve puzzles I do it for the challenge of the puzzle, the ability to enter games afterwards is more of a bonus. So for me it doesn't matter much if the creator posts the game(s) or not, as long as the puzzle is intriguing.
I'd rather do a good puzzle for Bad Rats than a "Guess what I'm thinking" for GTA V.
I'm running a puzzle now, a prelude to a longer one. The game reward for the prelude is decent IMO, but not listed, but the real reward is the ability to join upcoming puzzles that has even better games. The puzzle is the sort of puzzle I like when other people make, based on logic solving with visual elements and a bit of a story behind it.
The question is, if I list the game, will people want to solve it for the game, or for the challenge itself? I prefer solving for challenge over solving for game, so is it bad that I'm not listing it? Isn't it also a bit exciting to find out what it is, like a surprise?

As I wrote in my post you replied to, I enjoy some puzzles and solve them without the need for giveaways, while I mostly avoid the less enjoyable ones, but if they (the frustrating ones) would take you to giveaways with games on my wishlist I'm more likely to power through them.
I'm also spending less time on puzzling now, so I'm very much more likely to spend time on a puzzle that is both fun and has some interesting giveaways as a bonus. Doesn't have to be non bundled AAA titles, I like indie/bundle games too.
I think there's a handful of "pro" puzzle solvers here on Steamgifts that likes a good puzzle regardless of the giveaways, while most others do it for the giveaways. Revealing the game won't change the mind of the people who come for the enjoyment of cracking the puzzle, but might change what people who are just in it for the giveaways that solve the puzzle. People not interested in the game would drop out, and people really interested in the games will try harder to succeed. If I did a puzzle I would rather see someone interested in the game solving the puzzle and entering the giveaway, than someone not interested, just looking to claim it as their "reward" for solving the puzzle, using it as a +1 in their Steam library or to farm cards.

We're on the same page, the avid puzzle solvers are the "pro puzzle solvers" in my comment, and I tried hinting that they weren't in it for the giveaways, probably not solving it for entering random giveaways, but will enter for games they like.
Then there are always some people who don't usually solve all the puzzles, and in that group is where I think we find more of those I tried to describe later in my comment.

I like those that are about scientific facts that can be Googled or found out using Wikipedia
That doesn't sound fun. I mean, some of those are interesting and you can educate yourself googling for answers, but it's not the same as solving stuff with no help.

There are at least some convoluted puzzles that still have some sort of educational value; one that comes to my mind involved text coded with Brainfuck, the challenge was finding out what it was, then it was easy.
As for the rest, the only thing I can leave is a movie quote.

Hey my puzzle pyramid that is going till end of January you may really like...
A huge variety of puzzles make it up all google able, scientific topics, fun topics, art, etc. start at bottom of pyramid and click thru the 12puzzles at the bottom and find one that interests you.
I'm here to help too.
No hidden code or html.

Lol... Yea that's aggravating... My pyramid puzzle tells a story of the team of cats that run steamgifts... (Fictional of course). You get to meet and talk to each of the 26 kitties... Each is behind a unique cat door puzzle. You have to answer questions along the way about the kitties you meet in order to continue. Then when you reach the top of the pyramid you get to meet Space Kitty and learn about him. You learn his secrets and the intimate details of all the kitties too.
There's inner office romance, love triangles, varying quirky personalities and surprises along the way...
Hope to see you there!
And btw, nothing is hidden in Grandmas underpants... Just Grandpas... Lol

Um, I had to stop doing the pyramid because I'm stuck with Lock 03-04 Q1... I know where the answer should be but I can't see it anywhere (unless it's not in a plain text). But until that point the puzzles were great :D And I did the whole base already :) I mean first step, but shhh... ;)

I love them in the general sense and especially in pc games and jigsaw puzzles, but I guess that "some" puzzles around here in steamgifts, do get so crazy, that I some times question my feelings for them. Indeed.... :O

I think knowing how to play is the most frustrating part. There is a guide out there and its pretty fun on some once you start to track down where they have hidden it. Most of the time if I can get to where I need to be, I stare at the screen intently... long hard pause. Then proclaim its impossible and I quit. Most of the time I can not even get to where I need to be.

I feel about the same way, I really want to like them, but most of them drive me crazy. If it's an ITH a lot of times it's formatting problems, and the ones that are hidden in the text/ciphers are just too much trouble most of the time. I did really enjoy a group puzzle that was done a while back... I forget who did it, but it was a lot of fun being able to work with everyone on hints/clues and shared answers (although hints and clues were more fun than outright sharing answers) because then you at least felt like you accomplished something on your own.
I like them a lot more when they give hints, but half the times the hints don't help and just make me feel dumb again... lol
I did try a lot more puzzles when I first got here and don't do near as many now. I will try one now and then though, but usually give up pretty easily.

I only managed to solve 1 puzzle and it's the one I created (link). Does that count?
It otherwise had 52 solvers out of 93 players. I wonder what's the typical success rate for most puzzles on this site? Must be much lower. Alternative explanation: I'm stupid.

I like solving things in real life, and recently played Portal 2 which was a total fun game. I mean even though I had to Google 1-2 places, I managed to finish it and in the end didn't lose much. But SG puzzles are often just like a wall, no entertainment value, just guess and fail.

I'm a proud puzzle-maker, but a horrible puzzle-solver. ;_;
I kinda fail to understand how puzzles on SG are a problem to you, though. If you cant'/don't want to solve them (like me), simply avoid them altogether. If other people enjoy them, then good for them, and live and let live. :)

There are still many public giveaways, and even giveaway groups you can join. Puzzles are certainly not for everyone, but that doesn't mean that giveaways aren't. :P
