I've just read auto-translated article from RIA novosti. It's really dreadful, but I would recommend it to anyone who'd like to get a glimpse into level of propaganda & most of all hatred served to Russian citizens. To sum it up, it says that de-nazification is actually de-ukrainization & de-europeizetion. Basically it openly states, only through newspeak, that by nazis they simply mean nationalists.
Dreadful, horrid, vile, despicable propaganda.

Here is a an article on archive.org since I'm unable to access it directly.

Putin's state media claim that Bucha it's ukranian army fault and massive provocation stating that corpses were already prepared in advance to convict Putin's troops or were faked by actors.
You can easily check these "news" yourself googling in Yandex (russian Google clone) by searching for "bucha news" or "буча новости"

At least Latvian media hasn't posted anything of this sorts.
Our foreign minister just tweeted that diplomatic ties will be reduced, but details will be available only after decisions will be officially made.
Also worthwhile to mention - he stated that closing the border has to be done in wider context. If only one country does it, then it`s ineffective as other countries would be used to get around our closed border. But they are ready to do it if such a decision would be made (maybe in our context if whole Baltics and Poland closed the border it might be effective)

Either way can't find any information confirming this on local news as of now

edit: Also our Minister for Transport has stated that he has had meeting with Lithuanian minister and talks with other region ministers will take place regarding action for this appeal. But has refused to comment further until any decision will be made. But if it is accepted and borders will be closed, that would mean total isolation for Russia. Which I would hope for - there are still reportedly still many companies in Latvia that are still trying to get around sanctions to deal with Russia. At least stopping any movement over borders would limit them somewhat.

To add info regarding Bucha killings:
https://meduza.io/en/feature/2022/04/03/dozens-of-dead-civilians-found-in-kyiv-suburb

The bodies in the photo include the family of Motyzhyn mayor Olga Sukhenko, according to Ukrainian journalist Kateryna Malofieieva. This was confirmed by Vadim Tokar, though he didn’t specify where the bodies were found.

The Sukhenko family — Olga; her husband, Igor; and their son, Alexander — were reportedly kidnapped by Russian troops in late March. On April 2, Alexander’s girlfriend reported that he and his parents had been found dead.

They might have many players there but I'm pretty sure that the rest of the world generates way more revenue. And this way they prevent being seen as a Russian company, that might be cut off from its more valuable markets.

A standard pattern here, with Russians desperately trying to find some alternative to a reality they don't like.

But let me give you a rather obvious reason why they didn't post it earlier: Because satellites can't see what lies underneath the surface of the new holes the Russians had been digging.
And unless you expect them the accuse you of massacres for every hole that comes to be, there is no point in reporting them earlier. But maybe we should do so from now on.

Edit. I finally saw that this video is about single bodies and not mass graves, though satellites show that these existed too.
Still wouldn't have made sense to report those satellite images without actually knowing what exactly could be seen there. Mostly I wouldn't have been able to tell that we indeed see a body. And even if you could identify a body, you couldn't possibly tell that these are murdered civilians, just by the satellite images.

Benefit? They cause fear, shock and trauma among the Ukrainians. Hoping to weaken their resistance.

Damage? Russian reputation is already pretty much non-existent. And Putin has shown he doesn't care about economic pressure. Plus a majority of Russians seems to blame the West rather than Putin. So if Russians believe the lies he tells, as you obviously do, he might end up with more support at home for his cute little "special operation".

Are these enough thoughts about potential benefits for you?

Besides, you don't seem to waste any thoughts on how impressive it would be if Ukraine had staged all these massacres. Just within few hours after the Russian forces left, they'd have to murder, burn, dig holes. Instruct "witnesses". And that within a mined war zone. Manipulate images and videos. Achieve global support to cover their "ploy". And all that without knowing in advance that the Russians would retreat, so no chance to prepare.

And we are supposed to believe that this scenario is more likely than that those troops, who already slaughtered civilians in previous wars, committed these war crimes? And that a Russian government, which has been a proven liar for years over years now, is suddenly telling the truth?

Fat chance.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In fact. This is basically what I though to add right now.
If I was to take such cynic view. Russia has basically nothing to loose. They deny all their war crimes up to date anyway, so it doesn't change much. Whereas, Ukraine would loose the support all over, if this claims would be proven true.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And worst of all is that Putin has a track record of having success with hic cynic playbook.
MH17/MAS17 comes to mind, with Russia demanding to "investigate" how the other side committed their own crimes.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Unfortunately it just seems to be somehow standard Russian procedure.

Somehow graphic description of war crimes:

Following an investigative mission to Chechnya in February 2000, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) listed these violations as follows: ‘destruction of towns and villages unjustified by military necessity; bombardments of and assaults on undefended towns and villages; summary executions and murders, physical abuse and torture; intentionally causing grave harm to people not directly involved in hostilities; deliberate attacks on the civilian population, on public transport and health workers; arbitrary arrest and detention of civilians; looting of private property.’

The use of the term ‘cleansing’ went on to become standard in the vocabulary of Russians forces to describe military or police operations aimed at ‘filtering’ the population so as to find out every potential combatant and most frequently ending with arbitrary arrests, disappearances and executions (COE, 30/05/2002).

The same acts and same sequence of violence can be seen in each of them: summary executions of people stopped in the street, or taken from their homes, or forced out of cellars where they had been hiding; disappearances of men arrested or taken to serve as human shields; rapes, murders and disappearances of women.

MASSACRES OF CIVILIANS IN CHECHNYA

Seems horridly similar.

Also, I refuse to believe such elusive logic. Russia constantly claim that Ukrainians kill their own citizens & destroy their own cities, but this is simply unimaginable. Imaginable, I guess, only to those who share the Russian regime savage way of thinking.

Edit: added warning

https://twitter.com/search?q=until%3A2022-04-02%20since%3A2022-04-01%20bucha
Also according to some reports, parts of Bucha were still occupied by Russians on 31.03:
https://twitter.com/JulianRoepcke/status/1509623211817848834

This clearly shows that the official statement of Russian MFA is lying in this regard (4 days).

I'm actually amazed by this, but I've no idea how they use petitions to accomplish it. Sadly, it looks like the number of people signing on has flattened out. Maybe it's just hard to get the message out with everything else that is going on. I wonder if you would consider putting something up in your OP? Just considering all that money being freed up to go to humanitarian aid, restoring basic services, rebuilding destroyed homes, it's absolutely worth trying I think.

Interestingly Baltics have stopped flow of gas from Russia and PM of Latvia stated that by next week they will propose a plan of getting rid of Russian gas import completely. For now gas is coming from reserves in Latvia and Lithuania. Also it was just now announced that Latvian PM stated that no Latvian company will pay for gas in Rubles. Latvian Gas analyzed that technically it's not against sanctions or contract to pay in Rubles, but at least on governmental level that is being denied.

Although I've noticed Russians propagating how Latvia is accepting to pay in Roubles, how the plan is going as intended and how Latvia is going to be economical buffer country between evil west and holy Russia... The propaganda is just laughable at this stage.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The proposed scheme suggests that it would work this way: the buyer transfers money to the bank account in Russia in euro, then sells euro for rubles and pays for the contract. Overall it's not that different from the current situation, when regulator can oblige gas companies to sell all their incoming euro payments for rubles.(Right now ALL businesses receiving payments in foreign currency are obliged to sell 80% of incoming money for rubles)

Russian TV presents it like it's such a big deal, but instead it can actually be beneficial for buyers, because historical data shows that on long distance ruble value is decreasing.
The whole "payment in rubles" thing basically is just a PR move.

I wonder how they will fulfill this plan. After all, Latvia and Estonia are 80% dependent on gas supplies from Russia. Lithuania's dependency, on the other hand, is only 50%.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

At least according to LV politicians we shouldn`t overestimate the dependency on RUS gas. Saying that while we do import the most gas from RUS, there are ways to get it from other places. But of course the question still arises from where do the other suppliers get their gas.

For now it seems LT would be able to supply LV and EST as they have already cut ties from gas pipelines and are stating that LNG Terminal can support all of the clients for now (I don`t know if that is including LV and EST if we decide to piggyback on LT). But there are talks now of building LNG terminals for LV and EST as well... with some political bullshit going on of course. LV for now has gas in storage as well so if the process moves along we might see new LNG Terminals in Baltics and simply buy gas from other suppliers without using RUS gas pipelines.

Anyway - any specific solutions are only planned for next week and I`l try to update this thread as well, so you guys get info translated straight from the source of what will be discussed. For now the debate seems to be whether it should be terminal in sea or on land and whether it should be built by government funds or private funds.

Fact 1, A Ukrainian coroner has been burying bodies of civilians in Bucha since the middle of March and gave the order to dig a mass grave.
Fact 2, The mass grave was seen already on March 31st on satellite images provided by Maxar Technologies.
Fact 3, Pictures of dead bodies began to appear already on April 1st, not a few days later as you claim.
Fact 4, On videos with better quality it is clear to see that the "moving body, hand that waves" was actually the effect that a raindrop on the front window created. Another reason why these videos posted that somehow proof it's fake are always in such bad quality same as UFO sightings.

No one in the West gave a shit about Russia before they started the war. Now the whole world turned against you except for some shit hole countries ruled by dictators like Syria.

That being said, any war crimes must be punished, no matter whether they were committed by Russian army or the Ukrainian army. But what did you guys expect when invading and bombing Ukraine? That they would suck your c*cks?

I'm sorry, but this is flawed logic. It is impossible for us to know the real identity just by the language. I live in Germany for a long time now and some of my Ukrainian friends who also left long before the war never actually learned Ukrainian properly and spoke Russian their whole lives.
