Two weeks ago I decided that after almost 18 years of smoking something had to change, many people and doctors had already given me the advice more than once. Over the years I had tried quitting multiple time, always with the same result. I keep coming back to smoking. This time I started with what I mostly do when I hit a problem, do some research online and see what others have come up with. What I noticed is how much people have quit smoking by switching to vaping. I know it still isn't healthy but for now I'll take it. I already had a kit from few years back but much has changed and wanted something which I felt more comfortable with. So I ordered a new starter kit (ego aio) online and 2 days later it was here. I felt a strange urge for taking a final moment, enjoying a last one and saying farewell to an old friend.. the cigarettes, so I did. I haven't touched one since then...
I am currently using liquid with 6mg nicotine, my next batch will be 3mg and then I expect in 2 weeks 0mg. I used to smoke 25-30 cigarettes a day and I am happy how things are going. Maybe It's me but the benefits of not smoking (even though I vape) are noticeable.

I must admit that I am very pleased with my vaper, I know it's only a starter and isn't on high lvls but it does what I wanted it for. Helping me stay of the cigarettes. My plan is to get it down to 0mg and after that see how I can build of the use and eventually stop vaping also.
Since I am new to everything (the few times I used that vaper in the past are not worth mentioning) I would like to know your experiences with vaping, what brands you use, if you use and where you get your stuff (coils, liquids,...) other helpfull tips are more than welcome!

For Dutch people where do you order online for liquids, coils & others from shops that ship to Belgium?

tl;dr: obligatory gibs

i quit smoking almost 7 years ago after 25 years of smoking by switching to vaping i still vape to this day and love it,my lungs feel great,i can taste food again,i dont smell bad to other people and i can do it pretty much anywhere i want to so no more standing in the rain, snow to sneak a smoke,i have followed vaping news since the day i started and have even taken part in medical study's for it and not one thing has been found that is an actual risk or carcinogen unless you are burning the juice or heating your atomizer to over 2000 degrees(an average ecig only heats the coil to 300-600 degrees)
the nicotine used inside of the ecigs is as safe as caffeine and is in the same class (a mild stimulant) one warning tho if you are using anything over 6mg juice try not to get it on your hands and if you do wash it off soon as you can it can absorb through your skin quickly and you'll get a much larger dose of nic then you will likely want and can be hazardous if you get a lot on yourself, there has been many false claims of dangers in the media both from big tobacco and the anti smoking groups and even the government not wanting to loose there precious tax money they do after all make twice as much money as big tobacco on tobacco sales.

i have mixed my own juice now for about 4-5 years and have come up with some great flavors, this has several benefits for one its much much cheaper i pay about 50 cents per 30mil while stores charge upwards of $20 for the same amount, another benefit is i know exactly what im putting into my juice and therefor what im vaping(this was more of an issue in the early days of vaping when company's were using questionable liquids in there juices)

a lot has improved over the years the early devices were really bad and the devices out now are just great you picked a great time to switch im sure it will help with your quitting ill give you a few words of advice and what to expect as no one usually talks about these things, first off vaping wont replace most of the chemicals you are addicted to in smoking..just the nicotine..most the other things they spray the tobacco with are far more addictive then the actual nicotine so your still going to have a little bit of a fight just stick with it and most of it will pass in a month or so,

after about a week of vaping after starting it you will likely start having a dry throat this is normal so dont freak just drink more often it will pass after a few weeks, after about 2 months your going to start passing up all that tar in your lungs from smoking it will be gross i was literately hacking up black tar for weeks but my lungs felt better each day ,between 3-6 months you will start to really taste food again things you like now you might not anymore and things you didnt like you might like or even love..huge difference, after about a year or two many of us can no longer even stand the smell of smoke let alone smoke a cigarette again it has literally become the worst smelling thing out there to me,

last but not least if i were you i would save the money your not spending on smoking for awhile and use it on vape gear and different juices to try out, this helped me a lot the first year keeping my interest on vaping and away from smoking and kept it fun for me trying out crazy juice flavors and gear, you will likely want something more modeler at some point then the ego, something with a removable battery (so you can keep several charged and handy) and something you can use different tanks on as these devices change a lot and once they replace the design it gets hard to get atomizers for the older devices and they you have to replace the whole device instead of just buying a new tank,

anyways congrats on your switch to vaping stay strong and soon you will never look back to smoking and save yourself a ton of money (after you have everything you want/need for vaping lol) if you ever have questions about vaping or gear or anything related go check out the ECF forums there is a great community there for vapers and they are very helpful to new users.

Thanks for all the info, really interesting. My plan was to quit as soon as possible but from what I've read pushing it to fast is not good. I' probably will save the money a bit and purchase a better unit. like many recommend. I am currently at the dry throat fase but I had read about it so knew what it was.
Thanks again taking your time writing all this down

Congratulations for quitting smoking!

First of all I'm vaping too though I was a non-smoker but I enjoy the flavour mainly and of course the clouds that are being produced :) Especially good when smokers exhale their disgusting smelling smoke towards you and you just throw back a cloud 10 times bigger at them back!

Secondly in general Vaporizers vs Cigarettes:
You have a nice starterkit there but I'd suggest you the "eVic VTC Mini" mod combined with the "Cubis" tank system (both made by Joyetech). I know lots of people who quit vaping and went back to cigarettes because they were telling that it tastes shit. Actually the taste depends on how your vaporizer works. While you can't do much wrong with a mod (lower part with battery) you can do horribly wrong with the tank system. To be more specific the taste depends on (excluding the liquid itself) your coil and cotton you use and especially HOW you use it. That's why I'm suggesting the products mentioned above. It's one of the very best options for starters with it's medium price (in my country 60-70€) and can reach even results towards highend hardware. My first vaporizer had the problem of batterylife that shortened due to usage and I couldn't replace it, with the eVic VTC Mini you can easily put in a new battery! This leads us to something REALLY IMPORTANT! Don't you EVER put in cheap/no-name batteries into your vaporizer. There were many cases where (not the hardware itself) the batterycharge became unstable and started smoking out and eventually even shooting out flames and exploding! I'm using "Samsung 30Q" batteries (cost me 5€ each one, have 2 for traveling) and they even stay at constant 6A even if the battery is about to run out! (Vaping on 22W, 3,2V and 0,5Ohm resistance)
Also I'd like to mention that you should not drop the nicotine value too fast if you were smoking that long and that many cigarettes a day. This leads to losing the necessary nicotine income your body is used to and you will much more probable hit back on cigarettes. Also the nicotine itself (especially weak concentrations) isn't harmful unless you get it into open wounds or your eyes. Even if you get it on your skin it isn't harmful at all but I would suggest washing it away just to be safe completely since high concentrated nicotine (so a chemist friend told me) drains your skin from water/fluids, it dries up and can be life threatening <- HIGHLY CONCENTRATED NICOTINE, we're speaking here of concentrations you never would be able to get your hands on! So 6mg nicotine is barely recognizable! Furthermore with 0mg nicotine you won't get a throat-hit (a little pushing you feel in your throat) that resembles the same as smoking cigarettes or shisha. I didn't smoke before I started vaping but it feels weird without a throat-hit so I go with 1-3mg nicotine when mixing my own liquid.

That's barely the most important things I wanted to mention and I'm kinda distracted right now so if you want to know more or have question I'm glad to help you getting away from cigarettes forever and enjoy vaping more :)

Oh and all in all:
You can't say if vaping is harmful since there are no longtime studies and the shorttime ones don't show any harm BUT you can, with guarantee, say that it is way less harmful than cigarettes ;)

Thanks for your time! I will take a closer look at the "evic vtc mini' and others. Didn't know the battery problems where that serious! So I'll do my research and perhaps contact you when I purchase something else for advice. Thanks again!

Glad to help you ´quit smoking and get into the world of vapetech :) I don't know about every model since i'm not that much into it but I know the most important things so I can enjoy it with safety :)
Before actually getting a vaporizer myself I researched it almost half a year because I was afraid of harm and safety. There are enough videos on the web which show vaporizer bursting with flames in pockets or even while holding it in the hands. That thing going off near your face while holding it tightly would be very unpleasant. Knowledge is power!

Hi, first off I'm doing good! Haven't smoked any cig anymore and don't feel the need to. My food tastes better, my smell has improved a lot, I feel like I can take whole lot more air in my lungs and my bank account seems happier too LOL. I have 2 liquids I switch every other week (vampire vape heisenberg and attraction) Now my wifes wants to quit smoking too and try it with vaping. She doesn't smoke as much as I did so i will give her my igo aio and purchase a new device for myself ^_^. I remembered your comment about the evic mini and started doing some research in it. I feel confident with it and started looking where I can buy one. In my search I also stumled on a nice deal for the evic two mini with cubis pro atomizer I think I will order this one (if it's as good as the one you suggested) from what I've heard the site is legit and sells original products. The only problem I have now is :) -->
1) Which batteries should i get? these perhaps
2) Do I need to always charge them in a special charger and if so what kind?
3) Can I still also charge it via the usb port? Like now I'm using a pc at work usb port or at home I use a wallcharger from my huawei smartphone or in my desktop.
If you find time to anwer I'll appreciate it, if not thanks for referring me to the device. No bad feelings, you helped me out already with first comment :)

I'm so sorry I couldn't answer for 2 weeks :/
I'm using the "Cubis" tank too but the "pro" one seems newer so I don't know any specific differences between them. All I can say (based on the Cubis concept) is that the tank is leak-proof and you can get a RBA (rebuildable atomizer) to start doing your own coils later on :) All in all the one you found really is a nice deal ;) In a local store you'd pay about 70-80€ for that (at least that's how much it is over here in Germany).
As for the batteries, I am using exactly the same ones. It is said that it's better to charge the batteries separately in a charging device but I have never done that since I got my vaporizer. Just connecting the usb cable to charge mine and I had no negative experience yet - everything working fine the way it should.

HOORAY for your wife taking a step away from cigarettes too!
In case you are or will be mixing your liquid yourself (it's really easy) I can suggest you "Tween Side" (Blood orange with french vanilla) and "Cookie Finger" (cookie dough with chocolate) aromas of the brand "Twisted". Fallen in love with those flavors since I discovered them :3

Hi, thanks and LOL. I just 5 minutes ago ordered a vtwo mini from a site in Poland and just read your reply now. I tried ordering in a German shop online but they can't ship to Belgium anymore since policies and such. For now I am still not gotten into making my own juice, instead I buy them directly from vampirevape and they usually have something like 3+1 free so I always order around 16 bottles of 10ml :). I hope to recieve my vtwo next week so my misses can quit and the (I can't believe I am saying this) terrible smell from sigarettes is gone. Thanks and have a good weekend!

Well over here a 10ml bottle of liquid (the good stuff) costs me 4-5€. That's the same price for 10ml of aroma, while the 500ml base (50pg/50vg/3mg nicotine) costs me about 13€ and with 10ml (1 bottle) aroma I can mix liquid ready-to-vape from 50ml up to 150ml.
So generously said I'm getting 500ml of liquid for ~30€ + a tiny little bit of effort to mix it ;)

Hi again... If I start to bother you just let me know. I got my vtwo mini cubis pro delivered 2 days ago and I'm loving it. The flavour is so much more intense. For any knowledge I have, I use it on Tc SS on 25w and set at control at 245°Celcius.

I really wanted to try and make some juice but I'm waiting for a IRL-friend to show it to me and what to order. I kinda followed your explanation on what to get but there's just to many I can't understand it and since it's going in my body I want it done right. I already found my flavour concentrate bottles but then i need the bases + nicotine bottles too and that's too complicated for me :) or just to scary to mess with lol. Do you order online or local store?
Anyway thanks again for all the tips. i've been off the cigarettes for almost 2 months and enjoying life as it is now. It's better, my wife will start using my ego aio in a few days.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer this long..
Hope you're still off of cigarettes and you got the hang of how to mix your own liquid :)
If I need stuff fast I visit the local store and if I want to try something new or need some materials for building my own coils I purchase it online since it is cheaper. Ordering a lot so I don't need to get some for the next months (5-8 months). ^^

Cheap online shops with authentic hardware:

  • nkon.nl - cheap battery units
  • cigabuy.com - hardware & equipment
  • gearbest.com - hardware & equipment

those websites oftenly have discounts and you can get the things you need for very cheap prices! only negative thing is that the order can take up to 4 weeks to arrive depending on the shipping method.
facebook groups are great for sharing knowledge and experiences with different hardware or aromatics etc. :)

there's even competitive vaping tournaments where people stand inside a boxing ring or on a stage and shoot Os and clouds at each other xDD it's completely retarded.. even though I enjoy vaping itself. In the end everyone has things he/she enjoys themselves and if it is for something like quitting cigarettes of course that's a great thing :P

I'm surprised nobody mentioned hookah/shisha. I was smoking cigarettes (not for long tho, a year maybe), and switched to hookah. You could say I'm now addicted to hookah (Im bored if I don't smoke at least once a day), but there is a lot of 0 nicotine stuff that's good you can try.

I started smoking in my early teens.
I smoked on average maybe 10 cigs per day, it never got "out of control".
One day after smoking for like 7 years I decided I was gonna at least slowly ween myself off cigarettes, but I noticed I didn't even need to really ween myself, I just quit altogether.
Then, after being off cigarettes for 8~ years, they started to creep back into my life and pretty quickly I decided I didn't want to start with that crap again, so I decided to give vaping a go.
I have now been vaping for about 1,5 years and I have been slowly lowering the amount of nicotine also.
I also used a simple ego starter kit for almost a year until I decided to get something a bit more "proper" and I now have a small and cheap "mod" with a decent tank.
It really is nice to be able to change the wattage :).
Anyways.. I just ordered a bunch of liquids, because they're gonna start taxing the crap out of nicotine liquids in my country.
Hopefully after that batch is gone (in like 10 months) I won't have a need for nicotine liquids :P

As for liquid recommendations, I dunno.
I tend to get bored using the same liquid for a while, so I at least try to get very different liquids.
Just try all different kinds, you'll find out what you like :).
I started off using all sorts of fake cigarette flavors and sweet and nutty chocolatey flavors, but recently I've been really into fruity flavors.

Hopefully indeed you don't need the nicotine liquids anymore, both financially and for the addiction. I like the taste of tobacco, all kinds of fruits, custard, vanilla and so on. The only thing I don't like smoking is chocolate :D fruity is juicy!
