It doesn't matter as long as the language, characters, plot and setting are enjoyable.
But if it happened to be hard (at least Larry_Niven-hard) sci-fi or cyberpunk then it's extra points.
And if it's on par with Peter Watts 'Blindsight' then i need to read it. Like now.

Sci-Fi often includes fantasy elements, but rarely the converse (word usage - correct I think). So, Sci-Fi for me.

I like them both, but I'll go with Fantasy because it actually includes most of what is thought of as Sci Fi.
For example, a literary universe where there are machines that can teleport you between spaceships and planets is fantasy. A story that raises the question of whether you really teleported or were killed while a perfect copy of yourself was created somewhere else is science fiction.
