After watching some reviews and gameplay... I found it too expensive atm, I also don't have my main rig yet... anything that you can recommend? Something open-world,rpg, and all that. Got Skyrim and finished Darksiders 2

Edit: Should rewrite that; change "I found it not worth the hype I was at, nor worth the price," to "I found it too expensive atm, I also don't have my main rig yet..." Just that some people found it being hate, it's not hate at all, I'm definitely getting the game, but it's inconvenient to get it right now, sorry for the confusion.

Updated2: Pre-Ordered it ._.

Edit3: Gonna get Kingdoms Of Amalur def.

If you haven't (not that it really goes with the medieval theme) you should try out Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic I. Now that I think about it, the game isn't exactly openworld.. moreso it just lets to go places and to different planets once your far enough into the game.

EDIT: I'm an idiot for not suggesting Oblivion.

You could try out the Risen Games, I strangely enjoyed the first quite a bit, however I've yet to try its sequels.
And I hear they're inspired by the Gothic series, which I got around Christmas, but I've still not played any of them.

I've actually been interested in Risen 3 when I saw it on steam, but after doing a little research on the series, I found it not really being my type of series.

If you get Amalur, get the complete pack. The 2 DLC are VERY worth it. It is in my top 10 all time favorite RPGs. Put in 200+ hours on PS3 and I own it on PC too to future proof it since my PS3 is on its way out.

Bought Amalur because of the many recommendations in this topic. Never heard of it before. Looks a bit Darksider-ish to me, which is imo a very good thing, I loved those games, esp the first part, and am looking for games similar to them ever since. Thanks folks, thanks OP!

It sounds like the Nemesis system adds a fantastic layer to normal open-world chaos. Although, it sounds like the 360/PS3 versions will have a gimped version of Nemesis, so PC/PS4/Juan is the way to go.

If you liked Skyrim I recommend Morrowind for sure. In your own library...I'm guessing you haven't played more DA:O because it's not open-world, otherwise I'd recommend that game in a heartbeat. Still one of my favorite rpgs, and I come from the generation that played the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series on release.

Mount and Blade:Warband is probably the most rewarding open-world game I've ever played, but a lot of that has to do with the dozens of amazing mods. MP is a lot of fun too.

Fallout:New Vegas if you're looking for another good open-world experience. I've played it a lot offline (I wonder once more why steam cannot manage to figure out offline tracking) and plan to pick it back up again soon

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The reason I haven't played much DA:O was mostly because the dialogue got me insanely bored, and the combat isn't really my thing, might give it another shot though.

Good chance you will like it better then Skyrim, better quests(Do not ignore the sidequests in this one) and a deeper game all in all.

Fallout 3 isn't to bad also, might wanna check that out once you chew through all of New Vegas.

Btw how open is Darksiders 2, I was not aware it was open world....

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The Darksiders series is more or less the love child of God of War/Devil May Cry and the Zelda series. Emphasis on the Zelda series. It isn't 'sandbox' level of open world, but there's a lot of exploration on the IMO very well crafted world; you'll usually need to complete dungeons to progress further into the game, but there's plenty to see and collect. I recommend the Jeff and David Show series of let's plays for both Darksiders games, if you're into that.

AMALUR AMALUR AMALUR NOW!! Very underrated game, but I loved it. Also, something similar to Mordor would be Lords of the Fallen

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'll second that. It's a good game, definitely worth the price. Especially on sale. That being said, if you don't like "fetch quests", quest grinding or other common MMO tropes, you might find it a little on the boring side. I swear the game was supposed to be multiplayer and they flipped the switch at the last second because it really looks and feels like an MMO.

Combat is flashy and satisfying though.

I tried the demo before it came out and loved it. I've had a copy sitting on my shelf for years now (360), and yet never got around to actually playing the game.

It always kind of reminded me of a single-player WoW, but with good combat.

Fallout: New Vegas for sure, even on it's own it's great but much like Oblivion and Skyrim there's so many mods available that you'll never run out of new stuff to add.

There's also Starpoint Gemini 2. Basically an open world RPG in space, freeroam mode is the same vein as Freelancer and such, plus mod support.

I'm just waiting for the scores, if it's a good game, I'll get it for store credit on GMG. The game doesn't have a % off for pre-purchase so just wait for the reviews instead of spending the money you have elsewhere. I mean if you spend what you have now, and in 3 days a 90/100 metascore game comes out, you'll bang your head against the wall. :)

Try Borderlands, Fallout 3 or New Vegas, Grand Theft Auto or Lord of the Rings: War in the North.

LOTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Marvel are my favories. I had played the other ones HP and Batman, but I prefer the theme and story of my faves. Indeed, LOTR legos are really cool. Those have open world, tons of characters and a party that follows you all the time. You can choose from a ton of characters to customize your party. The game also has lore places from the movies and the cinematics are awesome. I just love it.
