If you haven't (not that it really goes with the medieval theme) you should try out Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic I. Now that I think about it, the game isn't exactly openworld.. moreso it just lets to go places and to different planets once your far enough into the game.
EDIT: I'm an idiot for not suggesting Oblivion.

Definitely, but maybe something that's already out or really close to coming out (waiting for November will be sloooooooow )

You could try out the Risen Games, I strangely enjoyed the first quite a bit, however I've yet to try its sequels.
And I hear they're inspired by the Gothic series, which I got around Christmas, but I've still not played any of them.

I've actually been interested in Risen 3 when I saw it on steam, but after doing a little research on the series, I found it not really being my type of series.

Amalur is a choice, might be what I'll get actually.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you get Amalur, get the complete pack. The 2 DLC are VERY worth it. It is in my top 10 all time favorite RPGs. Put in 200+ hours on PS3 and I own it on PC too to future proof it since my PS3 is on its way out.

Bought Amalur because of the many recommendations in this topic. Never heard of it before. Looks a bit Darksider-ish to me, which is imo a very good thing, I loved those games, esp the first part, and am looking for games similar to them ever since. Thanks folks, thanks OP!

Nah, I just found it to not be worth getting atm.

I'm a big fan of the first Two Worlds game, it's just too charmingly bad to not love it.

How can you NOT like SoM ? I'm practically in love with that game,I'm working my ass off to get enough money to buy it right now.
Also try Witcher 2,M&B Warband,Fallout 3-New Vegas.

True, that's why I' waiting for reviews of the whole game, and I want an alternative in case it's unsuccesfull.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know man. That Kevin VanOrd gamespot guy, gave Shadow of Mordor an 8. If it was other reviewer I might doubt the hype.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, there's just something something in these reviews... I'll just wait until the regular consumer reviews...

It looks like Assassin's Creed and the Batman Arkham games had a baby and they decided to call it a Lord of the Rings game.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't like the idea of it because of how butchered Tolkien's world is in it.

Loves game Does not own game. Has never played game?
<confusion>

Not being "anti-Mordor" at all, just thinking of alternatives to play while I'm waiting to move... ( I moved to the UAE... Dunno how much more time I have to wait before I'll be able to move out of this apartment :/ been 5 weeks already )

Yes, that's true, I expected it to be average, but I've been getting a lot of replies with a good point about that it might just be an amazing game

If you liked Skyrim I recommend Morrowind for sure. In your own library...I'm guessing you haven't played more DA:O because it's not open-world, otherwise I'd recommend that game in a heartbeat. Still one of my favorite rpgs, and I come from the generation that played the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series on release.
Mount and Blade:Warband is probably the most rewarding open-world game I've ever played, but a lot of that has to do with the dozens of amazing mods. MP is a lot of fun too.
Fallout:New Vegas if you're looking for another good open-world experience. I've played it a lot offline (I wonder once more why steam cannot manage to figure out offline tracking) and plan to pick it back up again soon
Comment has been collapsed.
The reason I haven't played much DA:O was mostly because the dialogue got me insanely bored, and the combat isn't really my thing, might give it another shot though.

Just plain voice acting, 0 emotions given that day.

You don't own Fallout New Vegas, basically you don't own imo one of the best open worlds ever created.
Comment has been collapsed.
Good chance you will like it better then Skyrim, better quests(Do not ignore the sidequests in this one) and a deeper game all in all.
Fallout 3 isn't to bad also, might wanna check that out once you chew through all of New Vegas.
Btw how open is Darksiders 2, I was not aware it was open world....
Comment has been collapsed.
The Darksiders series is more or less the love child of God of War/Devil May Cry and the Zelda series. Emphasis on the Zelda series. It isn't 'sandbox' level of open world, but there's a lot of exploration on the IMO very well crafted world; you'll usually need to complete dungeons to progress further into the game, but there's plenty to see and collect. I recommend the Jeff and David Show series of let's plays for both Darksiders games, if you're into that.

Ahh I see, so few truly open world games...thanks though. Still sounds fun enough.

Dunno man, it just happend... My powers have betrayed my sanity...

Not sure 40 bucks for a indie early access game is worth it just yet, that plus its very team based and online, nothing like any of the games discussed.
I do hope this one turns out well though....

AMALUR AMALUR AMALUR NOW!! Very underrated game, but I loved it. Also, something similar to Mordor would be Lords of the Fallen
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll second that. It's a good game, definitely worth the price. Especially on sale. That being said, if you don't like "fetch quests", quest grinding or other common MMO tropes, you might find it a little on the boring side. I swear the game was supposed to be multiplayer and they flipped the switch at the last second because it really looks and feels like an MMO.
Combat is flashy and satisfying though.

Amalur is an option, I've seen Lords of the Fallen, pretty excited for it too!

Fallout: New Vegas for sure, even on it's own it's great but much like Oblivion and Skyrim there's so many mods available that you'll never run out of new stuff to add.
There's also Starpoint Gemini 2. Basically an open world RPG in space, freeroam mode is the same vein as Freelancer and such, plus mod support.

I'm just waiting for the scores, if it's a good game, I'll get it for store credit on GMG. The game doesn't have a % off for pre-purchase so just wait for the reviews instead of spending the money you have elsewhere. I mean if you spend what you have now, and in 3 days a 90/100 metascore game comes out, you'll bang your head against the wall. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Reviews are out already. They've had the game for a while now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah everyone except PC-specific reviewers, which worries me greatly about the quality of the port.
Comment has been collapsed.
Nah, there was definitely a PC review. There was a screenshot of the settings showing they had 6gb of textures or something like that.
Edit: then again, it was IGN.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's true, I just want to have an alternative in case it's not a 90/100 :P

Try Borderlands, Fallout 3 or New Vegas, Grand Theft Auto or Lord of the Rings: War in the North.
If you like some LEGOS you can try Marvel or LOTR ones, those are open world and very fun ^.^
Hope you find the game. Cheers!

Are the LOTR lego games good? I've been stocking up my Lego game stockpile and am currently working through Lego Harry Potter.
Comment has been collapsed.
Okay awesome. I was hoping it would be better than the Marvel one, since although the open world was cool, the actual story mission design got very very samey after a while.
Comment has been collapsed.
LOTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Marvel are my favories. I had played the other ones HP and Batman, but I prefer the theme and story of my faves. Indeed, LOTR legos are really cool. Those have open world, tons of characters and a party that follows you all the time. You can choose from a ton of characters to customize your party. The game also has lore places from the movies and the cinematics are awesome. I just love it.

After watching some reviews and gameplay... I found it too expensive atm, I also don't have my main rig yet... anything that you can recommend? Something open-world,rpg, and all that. Got Skyrim and finished Darksiders 2
Edit: Should rewrite that; change "I found it not worth the hype I was at, nor worth the price," to "I found it too expensive atm, I also don't have my main rig yet..." Just that some people found it being hate, it's not hate at all, I'm definitely getting the game, but it's inconvenient to get it right now, sorry for the confusion.
Updated2: Pre-Ordered it ._.
Edit3: Gonna get Kingdoms Of Amalur def.
