Must-have games for a "console" computer

I am working on building my media center PC to serve as a console rather than purchase any of the existing options, as they all have flaws I would like to avoid. Most notably, they would require yet another device to store, move and plug in and I am too lazy for that!

I've tried to cover most bases when looking for controller-friendly games, but I would love to hear some input from the community at large. The games I have so far (that were specifically acquired with this in mind) are:

  • Castle Crashers
  • Geometry Wars
  • Renegade Ops
  • Darksiders (1+2)
  • Dark Souls
  • Space Marine
  • Magicka

There are also various other controller-enabled games in my library but I can't recall which right at this moment. What I'm looking for now is a racing game (Need For Speed is pretty much the only one I've played), a CoD-style shooter-thing and whatever suggestions you have for things I would be silly to miss having!

Beat Hazard (with the Ultra DLC) and possibly Race 07. Both can usually be found on sale for dirt cheap.

Beat Hazard is definitely on my list :D Race 07 looks like it's dirt cheap already, so might pick that up

I haven't played CoD, but Crysis 2 is a FPS that is controller friendly, as for racing I can't help you there

That said, I'd add Saints Row 3 for some mindless fun (no local coop.)

Nice thread, thanks! Got SR3 from the THQ bundle, felt like a GTAish thing. Have you by any chance played both SR3 and Sleeping Dogs and know how different/similar they are?

Borderlands 2,Portal 2, Just cause 2 but it only has partial controller support, Deus ex human revolution, Fallout new vegas and Left 4 dead 2

Super Meat Boy, Braid, Trine (1 or 2), Borderlands (1 or 2), Dungeon Defenders, Fallout (any1), ANY/EVERY VALVE GAME, Just Cause 2 and of course you'll need some Bit.Trip games if you're into those.

OR, you could go into advance search mode and enter "Partial Controller Support" under the "Category" tab. Just a tip.

Ah, but if I just searched by controller support I would miss out on the opinions of all our esteemed colleagues! Also didn't want to exclude games that might not be on steam yet ;)

Might be worth suggesting to them - I see they finally added the metacritic user score, so there is hope yet. I'll go suggest it to them too right now
