In those cases of:
A) Must be banhammered
B) Not all of Russian retail keys have restrictions. Some of them can be activated in other countries (for example, Russian retail keys of Napoleon: Total War). Just read descriptions carefully.

Ok, let's get this straight. I am from Belarus (many people still refer to it as "Russia" as it had been a part of ussr) now we're CIS and I believe I can speak freely on behalf of the real "Russia". First of all: I think the're is no need to negotiate anything with fakers whether they are from Russia or anywhere else in the world - they should be BANNED. Only That or else we're gradually gonna destroy the community, and make everyone really paranoid - fakes will seem to be everywhere.
Second point: Only retail Russian versions of some games have these regional restrictions you were speaking about above. There are very few titles which are sold in Russia with steam keys (e.g. MW2 (Region Locked), New Vegas (Region Locked), Team Fortress 2 (Supports any region), Mafia 2 (Not Sure) and a few more I couldn't recall. But the trick is - the majority of ppl in Russia get their games (and consequently the gifts) from the Steam Store directly - that way it doesn't matter where you've bought them from, these versions are NOT region locked (Even Russian version of New Vegas, whose Russian retail IS locked).
I hope my post had cleared some misunderstanding between our community.

Stop being xenophobic
A) fakes have been around before the "Russian influx"
B) what about Australian and German gamers? their versions of games can be radically different too
nobody forces you to enter a "Russian" game entry, there is no requirement too... if you don't like it don't enter it
I don't like the way people on this website have started to blame Russians on everything. Sales of registrations went on long before the "influx", fakes were made long before the "influx" etc etc
I see your account is set to Australia... how pissed do you think people would be you submitted a game but the winner found out it was censored? hmm would they be right in calling for you to be banned for not stating the fact? ALSO LOOOOOOL you are hardly the model gamer with bans on record.

It's not about the games being radically different, it's about the games being not redeemable at all, or becoming unplayable duds on your account that support has to remove.
also, censored games are clearly marked as such on the storefront. if people give that away and don't clarify it's censored, its their fault. BUT that has not happened so far, unlike those hundreds of fake giveaways

There have been far more fake giveaways created by none "Russians"
Nobody is forcing you to bid in a Russian submission. If you just blindly enter it is your fault. If you really want a game it is up to you to decide and look at the submitters account to decide if the game is legit or dodgy.
That being said there should be a warning in the description if it is censored or region edited/restricted.

You're the lone apologist here.. lets face it.. statistics are not on your side on this one.. Many of the fake entries and "mistaken" entries are from accounts in Russia or the CIS.
We know Russia doesnt have a monopoly on scumbags, I'm sure many of the HIB3 deals were non-russian (but because I actually try not to treat game writers like crap, I paid 5 times the windows average for HIB3, I never looked)
Stop pointing out that people are complaining about russians and compile some statistics then get back to us.. if you find that russians/cis account for a minority of the fakes, I'll eat my hat.

just to clear this up, there is only 1 game for sale that is censored in Australia and that is left for dead 2. as for my bans? how is that relevant at all to the discussion. For your information, i was VAC banned for hosting mods on MW2. What i see hear is a desperate grab to insult me somehow. This thread was only intended to show and issue we are currently having. I in no way intended to insult Russians in anyway. i am only highlighting an issue however it seems some people have taken this the wrong way

About Russian giveaways that can't be redeemed elsewhere, Australia giveaways that are censored or whatever..
Easy. Make another drop-down menu where you chose which Steam store (which region) you bought the game from. That way we'd know if the game is in Russian or censored from Australia or whatever.
This won't solve fakes of course, but it solves one annoying problem.

I was just thinking something should be done about them since most of the times the Russian ones are either
A) fake
B) you cant redeem them anyway unless you are in Russia
This is a real issue that should be dealt with
