I like they idea. I chose "I've donated to others before, why not here?" out of your options and I think that says it all. Just not for contributions, because, yeah, they are something different.

As long as donations would be kept anonymous and the donors would expect nothing in return I'm ok with it. But I don't see it happening.

From what I can recall, cg rejected the idea of donations, because he didn't want to deal with failing to reach people's expectations or demands merely because they "donated".

Hi,
As you maybe aware from here or there that SteamGifts is experiencing difficulties lately. Last weekend's downtime was literally 'hell' for me since before I realized I was addicted to SG. I got my news from here, jokes from here, puzzles from here, it's like a daily newspaper you can't live without. Winning games is merely a side promotion like some papers do.
Being said these and read the announcements, even been told that cg might not like the idea, I'd like to know what the SG community thinks about helping something we all like; a Fundraiser for SG. It is not meant to be in the original form of raising free money unless majority thinks so, but also being creative in other ways. Some other sites have events for things like these, leaderboards events, xp days etc. and even purchasable points. Since I like the SG being the most pure at heart, I do not like to suggest anything out of SG spirit.
For me, I've donated to Wikipedia, SteamDB and some other sites I've frequented that's been helpful since they've put a banner "would you like to?" and I was able to. I'm sure many will share this spirit when it comes to SG. I'd also like to say I really don't like when some people pawn some communities because they have better financial status (e.g. rare game communities). I do not suggest similar here. So if SG thinks free donations some kind of "pawn"ing, I might suggest donation value goes directly to contribution value as if you've gifted a game to the community. Feel free to improvise as long as you're helping please.
It seems so far advertisements kept SG running yet obviously not enough since we're still experiencing problems. I know SG is cg's baby but isn't it much more to all of us now? I'd like to think of this community as big at heart family (except one's on your blacklist), and in my country we are not afraid to ask help from our family nor think twice before helping. Last word belonging the cg himself, all I wanted is best for SG. If I misrepresented myself or you totally disagree with me, feel free to add me to your blacklist since I'm a bird that's black ;3.
TL;DR: Would you consider a donation or not without any benefits for you?
