Four doors, four giveaways

Hover your mouse over each door to hear part of the soundtrack of each giveaway game. You can only pick one door, one time!
After you chose one, you will get the matching sgtools link -- no going back, so choose wise..
If you entered more than one giveaway, I'll consider you a cheater.

Alright, since all the giveaways have ended, below the games that were behind the doors and the soundtrack! :)

Game Full Soundtrack Door Track
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) Never Alone: Original Soundtrack Arctic Fox
Mini Metro Mini Metro: RMX KIT Back to Work
This War of Mine This War of Mine OST Some Place We Called Home
Ori and the Blind Forest Ori and the Blind Forest Main Menu (feat. Aeralie Brighton)

Below are also some statistics for who is interested in them! Taken roughly one hour before the giveaways ended.

Door Game Chosen by URLs seen in SGTools GA Entries Invalid entries
0 No giveaway 53 (1%) - - -
1 Never Alone 767 (21%) 316 177 1
2 Mini Metro 761 (21%) 420 279 1
3 This War of Mine 952 (27%) 555 411 1
4 Ori and the Blind Forest 1059 (29%) 938 795 3
Total entries Single entries Double entries Triple entries All four entered
1662 1560 72 17 13

Due the initial capacity problems and also later technical problems when switching to Cloudflare (which by accident allowed some to enter twice), I've decided to let the double entries slide. Members who entered three or all four doors or who did not get to the giveaway by the sgtools-link are now welcomed to my blacklist and excluded from future events - clearly they don't appreciate the concept or don't understand it. I'm very happy that the most of you (94%) played by the rules however! I wish I could all whitelist you, but sadly there is not enough room :( But do expect another event in the future for sure :) Also thanks for the many whitelistings I've received during this event. Although I'm not entering many whitelist giveaways (my backlog is big enough already :P), I appreciate the gesture! ^^

Thank you all for your interest and participation! :) Hope to see you in a future event :)

In 900 comments (minus the ones from the OP), you're the first to complain about SGTools. My hunch is that it's not going away, and if anything, that more people are going to use it. Better find another goal to fight for...

Of course you can, I'm just pointing out that if there's any momentum, it's in the opposite direction.

I can think of a handful of users who are not using the site due to principles. I respect that, but think they're missing out.

i don't like how it discriminates users

By that standard, your use of levels discriminates users too.

true.
but it's part of the site rules.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Use of SGTools, ItsTooHard etc as gates to invite-only GAs is also within site rules. I think what you mean is that Levels are a mechanism provided by the site, which would be true, but not anything that makes them any more "legal".

ok, i take that back. it's not the same
as lvls are something users need to do to get, and are positive.

sgtools focus on the bad things. this a big difference in my book.
punish mistakes, or reward good behavior. think of kids...

So if people didn't use checks for rule breaking in their filters, and only used things like Real CV checks, you'd be ok with it?

The guide shouldn't normally be needed, but it can help users who are not familiar with the concept of SGTools GAs,

Have you encountered any difficulties to enter? I'd assume that now that your principle complaint about SGTools GAs is no longer applicable, you'd already enter...

you mean on this sgtools GA?
it's general, i don't even check the conditions anymore

I asked "if people didn't use checks for rule breaking in their filters, and only used things like Real CV checks, you'd be ok with it?"

To which you replied "first lets see it go away, then i'll decide."

So this moment has arrived. Here's you chance to prove that this isn't just a crusade against SGTools but an complain about a specific issue. The GA that does not check for rule breaking. Will you enter?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

no. you missed the point.
i meant in general... as long as it's an option, i won't enter.
i pass most checks (maybe some ratio ones i fail, haven't checked in forever). i have seem some GA that only have the lvl filter one them (pointless, but their choice)

i won't enter any of those any sgtools GA.
that is my choice.

Ok, if SGTools-naysayers (like you) are entrenched in this crusade, there's probably no sense in me exploring making such GAs. Added rule breaking restrictions...

add whatever you want.
i never said i'd enter a specific GA if fitted my choice.
it's a general thing...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never said you committed to enter the GA, but since your wishlist is so compact, it wasn't a wild leap to hope you would. In any case, it seems that you no longer join GAs, so this is all moot.

This was a GA that I intended to add anyway to my train, due to it having the highest community-wishlist-rank-for-the-buck ratio. Being on your wishlist just gave me an opportunity to first do a little experiment. Conclusion however is undecided. I'll need to do something similar in a period where you do enter GAs :-)

You may not like sgtools for a thousand reasons apart from that. Discrimination is not fetching users' data from their public profile page and displaying them in a more combined way. Or filter the results according to one's needs, for example.

Discriminate: Make an unjust or prejudicial distinction in the treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, sex, or age.

Note the words unjust and prejudicial. Numbers and facts can never be unjust or prejudicial. They are what they are. The use of them might be but it's up to everyone else to think about it apart from the one who collects and displays the data.

different categories

sgtools takes all the rules breaker and calls them cheaters etc.
i think it qualify. you can't decide what is a right or wrong category.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope, sorry can't find that info about 'cheaters' etc.
I'm not sure we're discussing the same site, but there's a list of features on their first page :

Get detailed log of every game's real contribution value and overall level
Simulate the real contribution value of you won giveaways
Check users for not-activated wins
Check users for multiple wins for the same game
Get a list of problematic games that doesn't appear on Steam Api
Get at least the last week of new additions to the bundled list
Protect your giveaways with advanced rules and checks
Find the best game deals with bundle status information

Also, dictionary definition didn't imply that there are no different categories of people but the exact opposite. Discrimination is based on how you treat different categories of people, not if you can/can't accept the fact that they exist. ;-)

Check users for not-activated wins

what do you think this is?
that site doesn't tell you if they "served" their time. if they did, they shouldn't be denied access to your GA

Comment has been collapsed.

My point exactly, thank god they don't display estimates on the retrieved data. Since SG is not providing more info on the matter, they could either provide an estimated guess on what happened, or drop that field of information. Either of them would be serious tampering with the truth.

As a side note: Serving time for an offence does not delete the fact that the offence took place, it only dictates how the offender should be treated afterwards. ;-)

My personal view is that there should be a system where old rule-breakers could cleanse their status if they wanted to, so that info would be irrelevant in the near future.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

as for your personal view. it exists, not everyone can make amends...

doesn't matter if SG is not providing information. you are condemning them without trial. for a past offense.
i'm fine with sgtools as a way to check for those on a winner, and submitting user-report to ask support.

I don't follow you here, you initially pointed out the inconsistency between sgtools claims and sg's serving time, right? Agreed, SG's not reporting if/how the offence is being dealt with, is causing this inconsistency. (However, it's a huge leap to take because of more drama, hence my personal view or cleansing etc.)

Now, 'condemning' is a hard word, i would prefer 'not choosing them to participate to the event`. I guess it's everyone's right to invite who they want and by what rules they want. Calling out the rest of them would be inappropriate, though. And then, there might or might not have been a trial, how's that a past offence when the offender might haven't serve his time? Right, we don't know because sg is not providing that info.

Sgtools displays the facts, then each user selects to use the data productively or not, let's not blame the knife instead of the killer. ;-)

as for your personal view. it exists

I meant for a generalized, supervised cleansing. Something like a clean boot for everyone, no questions asked ;)

you understood me perfectly.
and just proved it is your right too choose they (generalize, discriminate) can't join your GA (or event, etc).

i'm no headbutting with you. i'm making a point that sgtools is not fair to the rules/spirit of the site.
you can choose to use it. never told you otherwise, notice i'm on a "low flame crusade" (if you will allow me to exaggerate a bit)

asking for a reroll will make sure that those who broke the rules, but served their time and did it only once or twice will be allowed the game.
sgtools does not...

low flame crusade

I hear you on that, just have in mind: sometimes preventing confrontation with a habitual offender might be more useful, even if this action might be less spiritual and not-so-fair. ;-)

I like the way you do things :)
How did you create those boxes and attached audio files to them so they start playing when you hover your mouse over it?
I'm learning web development privately and I'm curious

Hey! Thanks :) I'm using HTML5 audio, in combination with normally styled div elements, but with a onmouseover and onmouseout event attached, like this:

<div onmouseover="document.getElementById('mymusic').play();" onmouseout="document.getElementById('mymusic').pause();"></div>

Then you only need to define the audio element somewhere in your body, like this:

<audio nocontrols id="mymusic">
    <source src="musicfile.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
</audio>

And your ready to go! Note that it's not mobile friendly (yet).
