Marvel and DC are both pretty damn awesome, but Wildstorm--a DC imprint--has done some damn impressive stuff so I'll have to lean towards dem ole Detective Comics.

I like Comics.
Really dislike when people dislike a brand just cause .. Like the whole.. PC VS Xbox VS PS3 ... I like Games! .. End of story.
The better question is what games do you like? Or in this case What comic books did you enjoy reading (which is essentially what you are asking)
When I was a kid on grocery day I would head straight to the comic aisle. Every trip (depending on the week) I would end up with ... Batman, Detective Comics, Shadow of the Bat, Legends of the Dark Knight, Robin, Catwoman, Superman, Man of Steel, Adventures of Superman, Action Comics, Spiderman, Sensational Spiderman, Amazing Spiderman, Web of Spiderman, Xmen, UNcanny Xmen, Fantastic Four, Gen 13, Wildcats .. And when I was older - Y-The Last Man and The Walking Dead.
At some point Im gonna pickup a tablet just so I can read all the comics I missed over the years.

Marvel... I couldn't really get into the DC characters.

Both are alright in their own ways. DC teaches us that heroes are something special, to be admired, without the limitations of normal people. They set a high standard for what idealism means and demonstrate it by the amount of powers they give to their characters.
Marvel teaches us that anyone can be a hero. That people who are ordinary have a chance to be extraordinary and that doesn't necessarily mean that life's daily problems go away. The hero is something they become when it's required, but they retain their identity because that's something that never disappears.
Bruce Wayne changed into Batman, he did not 'become' Batman when needed. Batman was his identity. Superman was disguised as Clark Kent. Spider-Man was always Peter Parker though. Wolverine was just a codename for Logan. These approaches that Marvel and DC use are polar opposites, but are both great implementations when you understand the significance of the psychologies behind it all. They both strive to answer the questions "What does it mean to be a hero?" and "How do we want the readers to relate to the heroes of our universe?" It's all pretty cool beans by highly talented individuals.

I really enjoy reading both. I don't think people should be really selective when it comes to comics. Both DC and Marvel offer a variety of stories, morals, etc. The characters in both universes are interesting and are fleshed out with back stories, origins, allies, and enemies.
My personal favorite Marvel characters are Deadpool, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Venom.
My personal favorite DC characters are Batman, Green Arrow, Nightwing, and Joker.
Those are only to name a few. Like I said, when it comes to comics, I don't like to be selective and I enjoy reading all of them. :)

such a tough choice overall I think I like more from marvel probably because I read more of their comics growing up I like spider man, fantastic four and in x-men there's so many, but I also like green lantern(not the recent movie lol) which also has a lot.

Can I answer Dark Horse?
I'm a DC fan. They publish the characters I cared about as I grew up. They have, in my experience, also been more innovative within the medium, and win hands down when it comes to reading comics as literature.
Marvel has done a better job creating a fully integrated universe, and I think they're currently putting out a better product than DC (screw you new 52), but they don't have anything that can compete with Sandman, Watchmen, Fables, or Y: the Last Man, to name a few.
(If you happen to think they have put out titles that can compete with DC's best, please tell me. I need more reading material.)

Yeah actually I thought about mentioning a third option for Alternative companies as I love a lot of what Dark Horse have been releasing thru the years (Grendel being some of my favorite comic series). But I was kinda aiming the question over a comics universe where Marvel and DC mostly tie most of their comics into the same universe.

Maybe the latest Hawkeye series... it's not Watchmen-material, but it's absolutely gold.

DC, definitely. Can't really stand Marvel for the most part.

I'm more Marvel. I grew up watching some X-Men cartoons and I'm a big fan of all the Marvel movies that came out recently. Agents of Shield is a good touch too. I still like DC! In fact, I watched Smallville, Justice League, and I'm currently watch Arrow. I do love both, but definitely more of a Marvel fan more than a DC fan.

As much as I liked Batman and Green Lantern when I was young I always had a hard time liking Superman, he's just too much and without any decent weakness (Kryptonite is a lame excuse for a weakness). Spider-Man was always my favorite though, he's got powers but he's also brilliant (comics version is at least). He's also got a life to deal with and can be hurt and killed, but what makes him the best for me is that taunting habit of making fun of his opponents while fighting 'em.
For that and because the universe in a whole always seemed more interesting to me .. I'm Marvel.
On a side note.. if you read Spider-Man.. what do you think of the whole Doc Oc takes over Spidey storyline. Personally I can't wait for them to get rid of that ass and bring back good ol' Petey in his body, I miss his humor.
