I liked Fallout - New Vegas a lot better than Fallout 3. New Vegas feels a lot more open and the hardcore option is a ton of fun. Fallout 3 felt a little too restrictive to me. They're both amazing games though.

being a fan of old, Fallout 1 and 2, i still preferred Fallout 3 over Fallout: nv
imho neither fallout 3, nor fallout NV are true to the roots of the series :P

Wait, you think FO3 is more like the older games? Thats honestly the first time I ever heard someone say that.

Thats not what i am saying. I just prefer the fallout 3 in overall, not saying its more like older games. For me neither of new fallouts is like old fallouts- there are no real action points, combat is totally different than it used to be.

Oh ok, because most would agree that NV is more in tune with the older games.

Your post makes more sense now that you edited it. :-)

yeah, sorry.
I'd say that Fallout Tactics was more >like old fallouts< if someone is looking for such comparisons.

I enjoyed Fallout 3's story A LOT more than New Vegas. New Vegas seemed more lively and less dark to me though due to a more flashy city and the nature of the characters. New Vegas is newer, so it has improvements upon Fallout 3 in addition to some new things. Overall, I wouldn't say that those new additions and improvements are drastically different from Fallout 3. They were both really good, but I would have to say that I enjoyed Fallout 3 more.

Both. The complete editions with all the DLCs. NV is imho a better Fallout experience, but F3 is also a great rpg, so both!

Get both, they're very cheap, and you will want the second one when you finish the first (first being whichever one you buy first).

I played through FO3 for the first time last year without having ever played 1 or 2 and it was the best game I'd played in a long, long time. I really didn't expect to like it so much but I just couldn't put it down. I found the story to be much better than NV's story (So far, more on that in a sec) but I found the ending a bit shit and I felt it came abruptly, it's not a long story. However, both games are packed with side quests and stuff so don't worry too much about the length of the main quest line. FO3 has a larger map which is good, too. I haven't actually finished the NV main quest line yet because as much as I was looking forward to the game, I just didn't get as attached to it and I started to play it less and less, eventually I put it down and haven't gone back to it in a couple of months.

I'd still recommend NV but I thought FO3 was much better.

Fallout 3 is made by Bethesda, Fallout New Vegas by Obsidian (with guys who made Fallout and Fallout 2). That should already tell you a lot about the quality of these games. If you have never played any Fallout before, play the first one, then the second and finally New Vegas. Skip Fallout 3, it has nothing to do with Fallouts and is basically Oblivion With Guns.

i liked fallout 3 better than new vegas because it was a new game and did new things. new vegas tried to take fallout 3 and mix it with fallout 1 and 2 which just made a worse game than all 3 of them tbh. 1,2, and 3 are all great . new vegas is simply good

New Vegas. I prefer extended morality system, various endings and western atmosphere.

Fallout 3 if you want to feel lonely as hell. Fallout NV if you like having people around you.

spent a few hundred hours on both, but i like new vegas for the better factional choices and their consequence on the ENDING and idk if alot of these people bothered to do the side quests but certain ones will also result in the ending story to be finished differently than if you hadn't done them (IE for the companions)
