Well, kind of. Thanks to no HB bundles and steam gift policy I see only 4 pages of giveaways and when I filter group GAs those are for one page so only 3 for public. Yeah I know, propably there are people with only 1 :)
Forum awesome celebrations are dead because of gift policy and no more awesome events like Let's train or Steamgifts Hunger Games

This remind me of SG simultanous event when there were about 10 pages of GAs only for that group :)

Just don't get me wrong there are still hundreds of awesome people here and worthy discussions in forum, propably I'm just old, bored and exhausted because of temperature
So have a the only thing you come in here. There are bunch of various lvl GAs with simple SG Tools filter

edit: one more i forgot to add because I'm old Albert Mort - Desert Heat

So people blacklist all the games, don't have any GA's left and continue to complain about the lack of GA's then?
I get that there is a lot of trash here, but you can't blame the site for being too picky :)

last year's July we had almost double the amount of Giveaways made than this years.

The amount of Giveaways dropping by almost half in a single year is crazy.

I fully agree with that! But there are still thousand upon thousands of GA's, so I don't quite see why it's the sites fault when there are 17K entries on someones blacklist and therefore only 1-2 pages of GA's :x

forget about humble bundle, they are trash now with their gift-but-don't-gift policies.
you can still get keys from other sites, till they copy hb "support". 🤦‍♀️

sg has been kinda dead for months to me if i count the amount of giveaways i enter. 😅

well looking at your 90 wins after 6 years I can say that you never were compulsivily entering GAs
I think I see less your hars and funny ripostes though, maybe I'm just browsing less forum

honestly, the only reason I wouldn't say that this site is dead is due to a group of people in this community still being here and actively keeping the forums from dying.

and you are one of the big ones IMO.

SG gift policy didn't kill SimGiv - last SimGiv still had hundreds of GAs ;p

What killed SimGiv this time was tragi getting a newborn ;p

simgive is totally different thing and it has it's own rules, I know. I made it just to point out how one event can change that there are few times more GAs to enter than without it
And having newborn is really changing your life, believe me, I know what I'm talking about :p

There I was thinking that people were just making giveaways for higher levels these days, but apparently it is a lot worse than before in terms of anything that people actually wanna play and enter to try to win. I barely enter anything these days, really bad bundles lately I guess.

Honestly , i belive that it a mix of reasons.

Steam Gifting policy change , HumbleBundle turning to shit, BundleStars rebranding also helped a bit.

but the worst part is , the people we lost.

we dont see public events as often as we used to.

31 pages of public GAs, 3 pages of group/WL. Clearly I'm doing this all wrong the n00b way!. :D
But yes, it's definitely a lot slower in my wishlist-section, despite me wanting a few of those 1P 'trash'. I'm wondering if invite only GAs have suffered similarly?

& thanks for the GAs.

It is much slower than it used to be, typically I would see only the current hour worth of Giveaways on my first page, now it averages the next 2 to 8 hours varying from time to time. But isn't dead.

We have issues with Humble Bundle changing their methods which kills giveaways from them and, as a knock on, Tremor Games which I personally post my GAs from since i am too broke to buy them IRL.

We have issues with Steam changing how they no longer let you purchase directly to your inventory preventing more giveaways and hitting Tremor again.

But the site isn't dead, just slow and hopefully it will pick up, but even if it doesn't, it isn't dead yet, they can still go on for a while and potentially recover.

Thanks for your giveaways. And I think SG will continue for a while. It might be that public giveaways will degenerate into just gifting the cheap, trashy games and there will be more gifting within private groups and special events (where you need to solve puzzles, or answer trivia questions to get to the goodies). But whilst bundles continue to be sold there will be a need for SG...where else can we get rid of our spare keys?
And 17k hidden? wow! I have just 300 hidden, almost all of them dlc or complete edition games that show up on SG but are owned by me.

Now, that, that would be the actual death of the site, since it would pretty much kill the chance of anyone new wanting to register. If all one can see is trash being offered and the goods kept to a small inbred circle or wanting them to jump through all hoops, they will have zero incentive to want to hang around.

You are probably right. I have been on Steamgifts for about 2.5 years and it feels to me as though there are enough people on here wanting trash for their libraries and enough gifters doing just that, that the site could stagger on.
There is also a change coming perhaps with the bundle sites themselves. The OP mentioned the change in quality with HB, I think this could apply to some of the other bundle sites too (the last bundle from IG for $2 was awful in my opinion). If the bundle sites cannot offer enough quality for me to buy then I will not have spare keys to gift and assuming I am average for Steamgifters, then the OP's predictions will be true.
The delight in Steamgifts for me is the forums. I love reading people's opinions, whether I agree or not. I like some of the puzzles and trivia events and even some of the trash (am addicted to the little rpg maker games :). Maybe a solution would be for the free games and trash to be cv free (I know some are but not all). Might be an incentive for gifters for the level 10 cap to be lifted to 20. I have faith that some of the stronger personalities on this site will be able to keep SG going for some time yet :)

I wonder what happened to all those promotional AAA offers to join various groups or voting to put indie game in store (whops that one I know). Those were definitely good reason for new members

Greenlight vote whoring stopped, since, well, Greenlight stopped.
This also killed many groups, but you can still see the occasional giveaway made for that. Although they most often just use Humble Monthly games now, since cheaper.
However, the most often employed method now is doing a 50+ key giveaway of some cheap junk fakegame, since it gets featured in the top part of the site.

yeah, propably 50+ higlight won, I'd be happy to see some stats of success of both methods though as you never know if you need to advertise something in future ;)

True that most "valuable" GAs went to groups, whitelist and so on as there are hundreds of ungreatfull bots in public

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

oops, sorry, reading fail :) Even so, for me 6k is impressive. And yes, the bots are annoying. If I was not so hopeless with computers I would consider sgtools for some giveaways. I like the option of selecting those users who have that particular game in their wishlist (or though maybe that would encourage some like me to have fat wishlists)
