I am in college and they think i spend too much time with them :D and they are most surely right :D

I'm a grown man with my own job and revenue, a doctor no less, and I still play video-games. Nothing wrong with that.

Just interested - how much time do you have to play videogames?
Comment has been collapsed.
not a lot...
some weekends at the evenings when there is nothing better to do.
and some midweek evenings when the wife goes somewhere...

Teach me, Sensei! I'm in my 5th year of med school and things are already swamped enough as it is. I sure hope I can still continue to enjoy playing video games when I started working in the next few years.

As a resident at the hospital, I only work from 8 a.m to 2 p.m on week-days and I only go on call 2 times a month. So I got a moderate amount of free time to hang with my girl-friend, watch movies or play some games. Obviously, I can't do them all in one day, but still, I try to make time for everything.I thought of getting a second job as Med School TA and do my PhD while I'm at it. But I'm just really lazy and I really like having free time. Don't know what working schedule you'll have, though. Maybe you'll work more than me, but I still think you'll be better off out of med-school, since you won't have to waste as much time studying.

Made it through pharm school playing TF2 all the time. Like anything else, just gotta be good at juggling your priorities. Not sure I ever cared, or would care, what my parents thought of me playing games in grad school. They didn't pay for me to go, I did.
Comment has been collapsed.
I sure hope so. Med school is hard, and from what I've heard from the interns in my country, the first 2 years are pretty rough as well. I hope I can get my life sorted out before I become a resident myself.

Judging by the topic and your grammar, I was sure you're Indian (I am too). And yes I was told to keep my "gaming" in check on several occasions and they are right. If they feel you're wasting much times on video games, take their advice and start showing more attention towards the other things.
On a side note : I see you won Takedown : Red Sabre twice and did not activate them. Not a good thing to do my friend.

Yes! ofc im indian too :D o gave it away both of them :) from here and other!!

Because of:
1) You didn't activate a copy of a game you won here.
2) You regifted a copy of a game you won here.
3) You entered for a GA of a game you (supposedly) own.
You have 3 reasons to have been suspended. :P You really should read the FAQ and the rules.

A bit of both.
I played MGSV: Ground Zeroes on the highest setting and my dad walked in and said "Wow! Nice graphics. Games look much realistic now." or something along the lines.
But then I played Guacamelee and he asked me to stop playing games like a kid and finish my assignments.

He bought me my first game which was MGS1 on the PlayStation way back in 2004. Completely fell in love with the series.
Maybe he had a flashback. And as Snake would say,"Just like old times."

My Mom's always asking me to stop playing games. Always. She's never said "Oh, you're playing a game. Good". My father, on the other hand, says I have to divide time between my studies and games. In a 10:1 ratio. I'm in college.
sigh Asian parents...

They say that I play too much and I could do by far better results if I studied better. They think that I am a junkie. My mother also thinks that shooters are evil

They haven't seen me play a single game. Learnt my lesson when I saw how games were to blame for everything that happened to my brother, so I decided I'm not gonna go through that myself. Plus I'm a student and most of the time I'm not living at home.

Gintoki101 got it right. What would I be doing here otherwise ;)

My parents have never cared. They want me to be happy, after all, so why instate a curfew or complain about me sitting 24/7 behind a PC (it's literally the only thing I do in my free time, I don't go out or anything)? My study goes excellent, as does my internship, so yeah... I do sit in the living room though, which prevents me from using, for example, Google Hangouts (sound / voice), which is a pity, but oh well.
And on that note, I should make a topic here about a new PC I may possibly be able to buy.

Lol...back when I was in high school, my parents would freak out whenever I even mentioned games. My mom actually took away my laptop because I was watching gaming videos on youtube. :/

I don't watch let's plays because I'd rather play it myself. I do watch videos with commentary or those similar to them.

HA! I just game when I'm supposed to be asleep when I was in grade school and high school. Ez life with 3 hours of sleep on weekdays. Still got into a good university, so as long as you're not an idiot in class you should be fine. All I had to do is pay attention and I was able to get good scores.
Comment has been collapsed.
Really? Did you get a scholarship? And what was your GPA and averages in your classes?
Edit: I'm asking because i'm in high school and i'm kinda having a hard time because i'm taking all Honors classes (also called pre-ap and AP classes.)

Well I live in Australia we don't use GPA system until uni. In fact I never heard of it until I gotten into uni. I got an entrance score which we call ATAR over here of 76%. Which where I live was enough to get into most uni and degree/courses.
Also about scholarships, don't think I could get one with my 70% marks, have to be at least 80%+ I think. Never applied so don't know. You don't really need scholarships over here since most students just get HECS-HELP which is student loans.
You don't have to be that smart to pull off a 70% average, from what I noticed the first 50-70% of my grade was easy to get, since most of the topics/content you have to learn is covered by your teacher. The last 20-30% of your grade gets exponentially harder to achieve and as you would need to be a person who have the dedication and desire learn everything 100%. I was lazy all year round and still am, I just do well in assignments/test and exams that worth most of your grade.

Lol, but the problem with getting into "most" Australian universities is that "most" Australian universities will take legitimately anybody that finished high school that wants to go (just like NZ) - I'm assuming you didn't get into say, ANU? I mean no offense by the way, I'm also a slacker and I sure as shit didn't get into the University of Auckland, but bragging about getting into most Unis here is kiiinda like bragging about getting into community college in the states :L

I live in Perth and there are only limited amount of universities. When it comes down to it, no one gives two shit about what university you came from, but experience when job seeking. Also GPA in my university is something like this; 1 Pass (50%), 2 Credit (60%), 3 Distinction (70%), 4 High Distinction (80%+).
The good thing about Australia, is that they are willing to accept most people. It's all about having options, not bragging rights.
Also I don't get why people think going to a prestigious university is going to get you a better job. As I said, over here no one really cares about what university you came from, just how well you did and experience. For a practical example; let's say you do Chemical Engineering, you went to a low tier university compared to a prestigious one, mining companies over here hire shit loads of people, they don't care what university you came from, as long as they meet the meta and demands.
One last thing, don't know why you're comparing US to AUS education system, entirely different things. You don't compare apples with oranges.
TL;DR
You don’t go to university just to brag, you go for the qualifications and better job opportunities.

Weeeeell...I wouldn't rely on the Australian mining industry as a source of long-term employment given the trajectory it's been on lately, but that's just me. Regardless, even if you did find steady employment as a chemical engineer in the mining industry, you'd likely be making considerably less than you would if you managed to land a job at a big overseas company who will get thousands of applications for a single position. Given two otherwise identical applicants - same job history, same qualification, same marks, would you want the guy who went to a university you've never heard of, or the guy who went to say, MIT or Cambridge?
At any rate, I am not trying to argue with you - I love the Australian (and NZ) system, it's great that anybody who wants to go can go here. I just wanted to provide context for the rest of the world. You say that you played games constantly and "still got into a good university" but on a worldwide scale, it's simply not a "good" university. Not to mention - it's not a matter of "getting in" when they very rarely decline anybody. We're fortunate enough to live in countries where high school doesn't matter at all - which is the complete opposite to other countries where it's highly competitive and not uncommon for more than half of the applicants to be declined.

My mom cares, but she alway's tells me "it's fine to play games, but have a limit". My dad just dosen't even care. Honestly i'm just planning on finishing high school with a good GPA, go to a cheap public university, get my Master's in Business; then get a job and live independently for a while.
